Paying to be poisoned in Doha

MarcoNandoz-01

Doctors these days are over-prescribing medications to patients who don’t really need it.

I went to the AL-**** hospital yesterday for nick pain ‘n walked out with a bag full of medic’s!

Are health inspectors/authorities ignorant of the unnecessary drugs prescription by doc’s?

All part of the "anyone want fries with that" over-servicing mentality which is here to stay unfortunately...

DOCTORS NOW ADAYS IN DOHA ARE NOT LOOKING THE CONDITION OF THE PATIENT INSTEAD OF FEES.

ONE TIME I HAD A PAIN WITH MY WISDOM TEETH AND WENT ONE OF PRIVATE HOSPITALS, THE DOCTOR SENT ME X-RAY AND I COME BACK WITH THE X-RAY RESULT TO THE DOCTOR. SHOCK!!!! DOCTOR TALL ME JUST SLEAP ON THAT BED AND WHILE I WAS THINKING WHAT ELSE EXAMINATION HE WILL DO IT. HE JUST TAKE HIS TOOLS, LOL AND HE SAID TO ME 'I need to romove your Wisdom Teeth, so do you have QR- 600/- only. how to forget that!!

instead of explaining my situation and confirming this is the only situation of my teeth, he just ask " do you have 600/-.........

now my wisdom teeth is perfect now and I didn't do any treatment.

Fathima, If you still have throat pain and cough you may try gargling with lukewarm lemon tea. Dip a lemon-tea bag in hot water and use it to gargle when it cools down a bit. I tried it after being advised by a doc friend of mine..and it worked like magic.

Late arrival ..

This is quite common in the GCC.. Two factors..

One. Most people are on health insurance schemes , so its a great way for doctors / medical companies / hospitals to make money.

Two. People believe that the Doctor is not doing his job unless he/she prescribes lots of medicines.

By FathimaH• 6 May 2013 13:40

Oh wow.. That sounds baaaaad. Criminal to be honest. Both you and the baby can be at risk here due to these incompetent doctors! Hope and pray you recover soon.. I had the flu a few weeks back and it was quite stubborn as well. Took long to recover and still have the occasional throat aches despite all the antibiotics. Take care, lady, get plenty of rest and keep drinking lots of water.

The insurance system in Qatar is being abused... everyone benefits from it except for companies paying for it... the patient gets medicines, the doctor get sales bonuses from vendors, the pharmacies enjoy increased sales, the insuarers can hike up their premiums, the hospitals get boost from pharmacy sales too and the one who pays is companies but because there is non proper financial control they dont care either. This is very unfortunate... although health services abuse happen in other countries too.... just not to the same extent.

FatimaH, last Tuesday I went to the hospital here in Abu Dhabi, I felt like death, bad cough, high fever , aches and pains EVERYWHERE (even my toes hurt). The GP looked at me, ran a couple of blood tests and says "Oh you've got an infection, here's some panadol and antibiotics, go home" Went home. Thursday I woke up with an excruciating headache, higher fever, etc. Went back to the GP. Was given more antibiotics and more panadol and sent home. Was speaking to a friend of mine in Canada who's a nurse and she said they would never dream of allowing a pregnant woman with a fever of 39 to go home. Today is Monday, still have a fever and I'm at work. :(

Just a few weeks back a doctor prescribed antibiotics for me right at the onset of my flu. More like over prescribed! It gave me abdominal problems and I had to go back and get the meds changed and the dosage greatly reduced. Horrible experience that!

Another major hazard in clinics nowadays is the indiscrimate prescribing of anti-biotics. For common cold and flu, anti-biotics shouldn't be prescribed during the first 10 days of treatment under any circumstances. Its only when the secondary infection is confirmed and has to be treated quickly, a suitable antibiotic may be given.

Here most doctors prescribe anti-biotics on the first consultation itself. This is unethical.

Well the cure to be overperscribed is to get pregnant. Get sick when you're pregnant, they'll frown at you and say "Well if you WEREN'T pregnant I'd send you for a Cat-scan, x-rays, blah blah blah blah," but I can't do that cause you're pregnant, so here's some panadol, go home and hope you get better.

soniya, Good if you are satisfied with their treatment but you may know that the effects of over-prescription are neither acute nor immediate. Its always better to keep our eyes open and mind elert to see if we are being over-prescribed or not.

I guess, a bit of awareness in medicines and human physiology is very much required to defend ourselves from such doctors..:(

Have long lost all faith in the doctors here, and unless they are pregnant or dying(!) will not visit the hospitals/health centers, preferring instead home remedies or OTC tried and tested medicines.

I cannot do like so, having a history of low bp and heart problems. Thus I must put myself at the mercy of the doctors at HMC, who's treatment and professionalism whilst will differ drastically from doctor to doctor, at least will not over charge us either.

Patient : One of my left “Little finger” has injured.

Doctor check the finger and ask him to take X-Ray.

Patient takes X-Ray and come back.

Doctor : X-Ray is alright. No fracture. I will give some ointments for pain relief.

Patient : But, X-Ray technician told there is a fracture.

Doctor check the X-Ray again

Doctor : Take X-Ray of your right “Little finger”, then I will compare and confirm.

Most clinics have their own medical dispensary attached with them that is also owned by the same owner. The management advises the doctors to make sure patients buy more and more medicines through their counter. It's evident that doctors are hand-in-glove with their management in bringing higher revenues from the sale of medicines.

Nad, spot on!!!!

I second your thought...It really happens that if one has an INSURANCE CARD, DOCTORS (in Doha)never hesitates to go for BLAH BLAH treatment/procedure which are sometimes irrelevant to the disease...

My husband was suffering from normal cough and cold..He went to the clinic and the doctor out there told my husband to go for CHEST X-RAY, BLOOD TEST and what not...Finally my husband said let my cough n cold to get cured by itself in spite of following their un necessary demands...

Having INSURANCE CARD doesn't mean that one should utilize it in improper way...

It's hilarious Dr....Neck pain can be treated at home. We may take some pain killers if the pain is extreme. If it's just mild we can treat it at home via heat or cold applications, Jacuzzi treatment, neck pain relief exercises and stretches.

BOXBE - Riskz is right. Taking too much medicines / pills can cause bad effects in our body. Some medicines can poison us. Sometimes following doctor's instruction is not useful. Again I agree with Riskz - it's their profession to provide unprofessional treatment". I'm not saying all of them, but some is doing business out of patient's health.

Accordingly he went another day, gave my dad the anestesia and removed the tooth. Dad happily came home, and after 2 hrs again felt the pain and when he saw in the mirror he found tat clown doctors have removed other tooth and left the tooth which was having bacteria...
