we need to meet people too. There are 3 of us that have moved over just before xmas and we have only met the oldies so far! We are all in our early 20's and desperate to meet people! Does anybody fancy doing something one evening?? Maybe a group of us can get together??

Anybody have Facebook??

I moved to Doha not long ago and I'm just getting settled. There are a few good clubs and enough of a social scene to meet people and make friends.

Its probably worth finding a couple of people already here to show you around and help you find your feet. Is there nobody at your new employer who you know?

A week is a very short time.. In dulge in a hobby. You'll make friends through work or perhaps through QL and soon, you will have a social circle to keep you by.

Good Luck!

If anyone wants to know details about certain places like prices, preferable dress codes, ask here; theres hardly anything here I/people dont know about..not really a big place you know.

Well, the temperature is actually getting better at night.

Looking at all these posts made me realize that the atmosphere here is getting more social too. I'had never talked to strangers here a few years ago, now it happens every now & then...pretty cool.

What, I think, gives off is that some/most people here think 'a girl talked to you? Your getting lucky tonight'. They dont have the concept of being just plain social or just complimenting or sharing some thoughts with fellow (window)shoppers. Ah well, things are changing hope it stays that way. I see couples talking about socializing with others...thank god its about frikkin time. Any time around a couple wants to hang out at a sheesha or watch a movie we're in, Applebees is a must though ;)

specially when you're new in town...sort of.

around this time, and the hottest time ever...most of the people are away and won't be back until next week.

But clubs/bars are open since Friday so I guess social events will be back in the norm in the next couple of days.

With QLSG...I'm not sure yet. UKEngQatar is away and DARUDE is nowhere. Maybe when the weather is a little less hot/humid, maybe we could do a dhow boat or beach trip ;P

@ Pavlina - Haha...like I said, coming from a life in Canada full of friends and things to do is quite a change moving to Doha! I think Doha is awesome though; as long as you make friends there are lots of things to do... (this is what I keep telling myself anyways...haha)

Aquila - we are in the same position, we came over from Toronto about a month ago and have been looking for things to do. It's definitely hard to meet younger people in Doha, people really keep to themselves!

We got active on this site as it's an easy icebreaker - definitely come out with a group from here sometime! A bunch of us took a trip out to a remote beach yesterday and had a BBQ, it was great! I'm sure there will be more events coming up so keep your eyes peeled. You definitely have to put yourself out there to meet some people locally (be careful as well though - use your judgement - make sure you meet up in a public place with guys AND girls). My wife and I (young couple!) are always up to do anything - if you want to go for a drink or go shopping or something sometime drop us a message!

seriously though, I would look for a club that interests you. Most of the country revolves around shopping and work, but everyone likes to get a bit of a break. If you go to school then Im sure there will be a good number of younger people there, but I havent heard of any places to meet people, though Ive looked a bit.

Personally, I go swimming and smoking sheesha at waqif quite a bit, but there arent really a whole lot of people to meet at either. Unfortunately, I dont think this place really caters to us younger people, though at the end of the month there's going to be a tiesto beach party, so maybe you could meet some people there.
