Nudity!!!!!!!!

Yesterday , I was aiming to watch a movie , they wrote at the first (only for +16 ).
I got busy and forgot about the film but this sentence stick in my mind (over 16 , over 16 ,….etc.)
Why it shouldn’t be over 14 or over 25 , who put these scales that we suppose to follow ?
Whose is telling us what our children have to see?
Then I made a search over the internet , and I got this summary
-totally full of sex scenes :over 18 -------nooooo problem.
-Boobies and A*** : over 16 -----nooooo problem.
-kisses and love stories hiding beneath them a sexual act : over 14 ------no problem .
Is it the same war between conservatives and liberates ?
Some people trend to consider that western communities are mooore liberates , and the eastern communities are more conservative (despite all the “opposite side” are existing in the first community or the other one )
Forget about all these differences But the important issue , if liberty in clothes is Good and mocking of people about the way they dress or feel comfortable in ,
then why we are preventing our childs to cross the red limit of Nudity !!!!!!!!
I think it is Hypocrisy or somebody has to explain to me!!!!!
Wherever we come from or whatever we have in mind about the practices of others, it should be important to respect their cultures and traditions. Yes it could be eastern people are much conservatives and western people are liberates. Its a different story for us if we are being reprimanded for what we're doing that are used to us or we had inherited from our ancestors.
Respect others and you will respected. "Do what you want others will do unto you".

Any museum that has art with nudity presents it because it is culturally and artistically valid in the view of art historians and museum officials, not to mention most societies. And they do not prevent children from viewing it because it is NOT pornography and its context is a cultural and aesthetic one.

good point alexa , you are saying what i am trying to tell
art is something nice
i am talking about the violence and porn around us which humiliate men and women.
i agree with you at the end

"It could be a picture
It could be a medicine
it could be a bullet

ok then ......
why we prevent this art away off our children , we should increase this inside them
it is art at the end , is it?
but if you are father or mother you know deep inside that this is wrong , but i am not talking about this kind of nudity ,
it is wrong it is against the human nature .
if you go anywhere , the Prostitution in whole the world considered it as a crime .
Please enlight me if i am wrong

Can't you let every country take care of itself with regard to their censorship or lack thereof?
And btw, if you think nudity is porn, you probably should never leave your cocoon. The human body is not in and of itself pornographic. Much great art in history explores the beauty of God's creation. No one is forcing you to look at it.

Give yourself a lot of exposure, study it, try introspecting it yourself, and see how it works.
I only showed you how I got the needed perception of accepting such graphics in cinema from my 9-year-old experience not relying on surveys. See? I'm not ashamed of it. I end up understanding the idea.

My hero
i don't care if you watched nudity at age 9 or not.
and how i look stupid or not comparing to you.
the latest survey in UK showed that every 5 minutes you have to hear a bad word or bad view in street or school or media.
regardless the results , i admire the people who did that in UK "which i consider it one of the most liberate countries "because you see people who really care and wish the best for their community , and i wish if we apply the age restrictions here or in the middle east.
even the USA i can't find surveys like this looking at the community as one structure and every column should do its purpose
---------------------------------

It could be a medicine

It's their artistic expression. If it needs a bit of those scenes to work it's OK. It doesn't mean that they're forcing you as an audience to think you're an animal.
YOU're forcing yourself to think they think about you as an animal, OS! Just like you said, you really feel stupid...and maybe THINK stupid too.
And if this is how plenty of you people are giving thoughts about plenty of movies, then the distribution guys are right. They SHOULD LIMIT the movies they'll show in theaters for people like you who couldn't even understand how a combined movie ratings and artistic expression work. That mentality will not move you anywhere. You're fine off being given only Barney movies in your lifetime because it's the only thing your brain (or your child's brain and ego) can handle.
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
waw you saw nudity in age 9??
where were your guidance ? 0_0
any way , i am not blaming anyone here, but why we should insert sexual contents in a movie if it is good ?!!!
i call it (the 60% scene ) , why?
because the director or the producer is not good enough , and he knows that me and you will get bored of his silly movie BUT to keep you in your seat , he will take advantage of you and use that thing between your legs to keep you there ,not your heart , not your brain , not your soul.
So i feel like a stupid when i watch something like this
because the director is looking at me as an animal instead of respecting this guy who come to watch his movie.
if i need porn i know where i can find it , but i don't need this stupid scene in this movie .
and one more thing , the first comments mentioned that it is a psychology issue, but if i return back 20 years from now i will see that sex views and bad words have been increased 1000%
so adults were kids those days , and the current kids are adults now????
---------------------------------
"It could be a picture
It could be a medicine
it could be a bullet
depends on how you see it"
why you blaming your neighbor??? :(
It got on a mishap on some neighbor who played a movie that has scenes of it right in front of me. But that didn't made me think about the consequences of seeing such as I didn't even understand it at that age. It only made me curious when I got to my adolescence age of 12.
That's why it's called Parental Guidance. A parent should know if his/her child can view the film with as much as the child may or may not understand or induce stimulation. But it doesn't mean it has to be enforced as that is not how the movie ratings work. It is natural that a child may possibly able to see such graphic visuals in a movie. The only thing that matters if your child can take it in a good manner or not.
YOU SHOULD STILL LOOK OUT FOR YOUR CHILD AND STOP BLAMING THE MEDIA FOR GIVING YOU A WARNING/ADVICE AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN FOLLOW IT!
And I'm happy with the liberation my place of origin has given me. I'm as much as in a balance to using the said liberation properly that they don't need to force conservativeness on people like me just to maintain my religious and cultural standards pretentiously done by several cinema classification boards around here in the Middle East. So blame YOUR community for preventing it, OS.

according to what i see in the news , no one is adult , it is only a standard we invented .
And every human is fragile and human being reflects what his society wants and the age is not a big deal
i think we teach our kids what we want them to be taught
BUT the important thing is are our standard right?
this is what i mean in this thread and this is the purpose of religion because it gives us a standards we should follow and usually it follow what the human being has been created to be we call it in arabic "fitra"

answer to your questions,
1) Nothing wrong with the human form in appropriate settings - we all have a body
2) One should teach children not to be ashamed of their bodies. The discovery of the human form they will get to know over an appropiate time frame - hence film certification.
A corollary to your question that we should protect children; adults ,ie over 21's, don't need protection and can take responsibility for themselves so we should be able to see uncut films in the cinema - yes?
"Deaths in the Bible. God - 2,270,365

they would be exposed to if they had grown up as a typical child here, either. Viva said it perfectly: we should protect our kids from harm. The question is what actually harms them -- and as I pointed out before, there are widely varying opinions on that matter depending on what culture you live in.

are more important while watching movies with them and keep open discussion and communication channels to clarify their doubts if any. Otherwise restrict/control your children to watch such movies, which misguide or over exposed to nudity.
OS, we have to accept that we really don't respect ratings, even for arabic movies that you saying it's full of love and feelings, most of them (not to generalize) are not appropriate for children under 16 because of themes of sexual suggestions and sexual words that , in western community would make the movie rating goes to pg 13 or more, while here, nobody cares (Tamer Hosni latest movie for instance, the cinema was full of families with their children boys and girls, was full of sexual suggestions from minute 1, in the name of Comedy!!!!!)and so many more (all Khaled Yousof movies....etc)
Movie makers in the west study their market based on the ratings, and many movies have lost huge number of audience because of it, which means huge amount of money; therefore, we must imply the rating in our community and must impose it by law, if we really respect our children and want the best for them, and if the movie makers in Arab world and the cinemas owners respect us and our families, so I believe that WE also are greedy people and just looking to fill in our pockets with unethical ways whatsoever.
We need to start taking our children psychological safety more serious.

My 6 year old daughter wants to watch the Harry Potter Movies. But my wife is refusing to let her watch it because of the rating of 12. We have come to a compromise that she can watch the first Harry Potter movie when she is 7 with one of us sitting.
the rating of a movie all depends on the culture and the parental control. I know for sure that if I went to buy a movie ticket for a 18 rated film. First they will not sell it to anyone below that age and if they get hold of the ticket they will denied at the entry point.
But here the story is completelty different. A 7 or 8 year of Qatari boy can go and buy any ticket for any rating and will not be challenged at the entry point.
People in this part of the world just dont take the rating serious.
Point on the nudity secenes that are deleted from movies in the cinema yet thousand of Arab homes across the middleast are receiving western channels (of adult contents) without anyone even bothering.

Laurana , thank you for your comment but , i am not blaming anyone here .
If you read my posts above you will see that i don't like to blame a community by itself.
Everybody is responsible for his own mistakes , and their is no frustration here against anyone.
and i understand that these moves are great moves against the speed profit without caring of the society values .
but still you find people who are stupid"i am not referring to anyone here" and don't accept the others.
what is the problem with veil ? and who are we to judge on some people freedom ? just because they look strange .?
i don't want to repeat my comments but i'll tell you this
i admire the western community because the majority of them are open minded and respect the other opinion but in condition:
1- if they didn't believe what media is trying to tell them.
2-if they know that color or religion or ethnic are values differs from one to another and don't make the other a monster.
3- if they didn't follow the "speech of the street(rumors)"
till now i hate or get frustrated of 3 things in this life:
1- bad or stupid commercials and movies.
2-an employee in my country who was really corrupted .
3- the dog of our neighbor "i couldn't have a nap"
"kidding"

"It could be a picture

between a frustrated one and the rest of the world... Sorry OS but this is what I saw reading the posts here.
You should live in an westerner society for couple of years to be able to understand that the real life and the values respected by westerners are not what Hollywood is telling you.
Media in western countries, as well as in Arab countries, is controlled by the groups of interests (political or commercial). You should check independent movies... are far more realistic and they present the life as it should be (most of them). Hollywood is an industry and has nothing to do with cultural or social life. They are creating and selling what creates immediate profit.
If someone consider that a certain movie channel is not appropriate to his principles, he should turn it off. I have access to hundred of commercial channels at home, including xxx. I just never watch TV (almost) so I have nothing to complain against them.

Maybe there is a language problem or something but I just don't think we are understanding each other. I tried to give you some factual information on what ratings take into consideration because this is something that I have been involved in. I stated first and foremost that every culture is different so applying the values of one to another might not work well. I then used the example of the way cultures respond to violence and nudity.
You think I am criticizing Arabs and applying a double standard. I am saying take responsibility for yourselves and don't buy any stuff you think goes against your values. There can be no double standard when I freely admit that we have problems in our society and that I personally don't support half the junk being marketed to the outside world. The double standard is in you thinking your culture is being corrupted by the West and its products which YOU FREELY PURCHASE AND CONSUME.
Now I really do not have anything else to say and it is late.
Take care.

Facts remain - there are age restrictions on movies to give the parent's and idea of what the content might contain.
Now, any parent, that doesn't take these into consideration, that is entirely up to them - if they feel that their child is mentally able to handle a movie with an age ristriction, thats their prerogitive.
Contrary to popular belief, we westerners ARE concered with the age our children are exposed to things - and we do worry about things affecting them - but if you have raised your child correctly and they are aware of what is right and wrong and can identify the difference between fantasy and reality, then there should not be any problems.
I have been watching violent and sexual innuendo movies from the time I was about 11 - I am neither a psycopath nor a sex crazed villan - (shock of shocks) - it goes on mental capacity - and the informed right of parents what in their eyes is deemed acceptable for their children to watch.

why should some one watch nudity....what is so good in it...Is it teaching you any good...or is anyone learning any thing to better life. Watching such movies for anyone disregarding the age it only leads to bad thoughts...Such movies have created many rapists born, crimes, early pregnancies, many suicide cases etc. There is harldy any positive impact from such censored movies...
If any one feels their physical attitude has problems then the right person is to visit the concerned doctor...

BTW, I didn't say Arabs TEACH their kids violence. I said that in the Arab world there seems to be a different view that doesn't feel there is anything wrong with exposing kids to violence, but does think it's wrong to expose them to affection or intimacy between a man and woman, or nudity.

that means for every 4 soldiers we have 1 $

We have easy availability of guns in the US. We have school violence committed by disturbed people who are most likely influenced by the increasingly violent times we live in.
But you will also not see our cities divided between a Christian and Muslim section with a green zone patrolled by armed militants taking the law into their own hands.
If you want to stereotype, be prepared to live with the results.

so the history is repeating itself
it is all about money , pushing million of dollars in the movie industry to gain more millions , no matter what the effects are
so these big words about saving childs and blablabla is nothing.

My friend
Civil war is a deferent thing , it will cause an endless hate
europe have Hitler also , don't forget .
this is what i mean , you can't refer to arabs that they teach their children violence and at the same time most of the violence products are western.

this is what we called IRONY OF LIFE...
what seems to be a taboo in one culture will turn out to be acceptable in the other side of the earth.. i think information should be properly facilated than putting some red line which may tends to promote more complication derived from curiosity
Because they SELL. That's the bottom line. I wouldn't pay for half the crap that my country markets but the Arab world is more than happy to! lol
I actually have a vast collection of world cinema that far outnumbers my Hollywood movies. Out of 1000+ DVDs probably 75% is non-Hollywood. But the rest of the world eats up whatever Hollywood puts out. You don't know how many people I have personally introduced to good Arab, African, Asian, Latin and European cinema. But when I asked what is the latest movie people have seen here, 9 times out of 10 it is some crummy Hollywood drivel like Transformers or The House Bunny. lol

let's go for reality
the violent people that you called "the 3rd world" and the civilized world according to "your sterotype"
i never heard that a child in these countries, held a gun and shot his friends and teachers
this is the reality man.
search the internet and you will see hundred of stories under the name "violence in the school" most of it in the west
this is the reality show

I am Western. You can also refer to me as American, because I am American.
If you will not read so defensively you will see that I am saying I think exposure to violence begets violence. We are also exposed to violence in the West. We see it increasing in our society too. The decision to try to curb violence in films is too little to late to me; but yes, I do think it should be done.
It is also pretty typical that people like to always point out the problems they feel were thrust upon them by outsiders, without realizing that in many cases they contributed to those problems, or have even cultivated many of their own problems domestically. If that wasn't the case, why is Algeria, Syria and Lebanon still not peaceful? And why does it take an iron fist to keep Egypt safe?
My country has a bloody history. We fought a war of independence and then a civil war (and those are only 2). BUt I would never use that as an excuse for violence being acceptable or try to blame it on someone else. We all have to start taking responsibility for ourselves at some point. At least that is what I believe.

you opened this issue Pm and i will ask
look at the violence products , all of them are western products
- video games increase hate against communities against people
grand theif is an exapmle
Action movies are a polite name of " a violent movies "
if you look to eastern movies "indian, arabic, or chineese"
you will see that the top 10 for these people are love stories "clean love stories"
korian , japaneese , turkish , arabic (egyption), indian.
you will see some "action movies but they are following the flow.
in the west : a love story it means a sex scenes involved inside

One Shot, I couldn't draw an analogy with the topic.
So "you arabs"
i like it again and again and again(it keep repeating itself)
can i refer to you as western? (because the most thing i hate is generalizing )
any way
Violence produce violence , but if you want to teach your child in the school you have to teach him his own history.
let's take a look
- syria & Lebanon was invaded by france and many many have been killed by french people.
- Jordan , Iraq , Palestine also by UK
-egypt by UK
-aljeria by france
-libia by italy
it was blooded history , the child will look at his own history and he will see that his grand fathers were killed in wars they don't have any relation in .
On the other hand, If you look to the present , we still teaching them that all arabs are brothers but we have something more beautiful than that , ALL MUSLIMS ARE BROTHERS, and you are not a Muslim if you didn't like to your brother what you wish for yourself, and you are not a muslim if your neighbor was hurt by you.

I think people that are exposed to such violence as a norm, tend to find it easier to accept and it results in less respect for human life. I don't see this as a positive thing.
And brit, I don't subscribe to the PC notion of "It's all about different norms for different societies" but I fully expected that response from you. If that were true, then pedophilia or murdering someone for their tennis shoes would be acceptable. I don't think they EVER are.

Brit, why did you go to watch such an hideous thing?
Were you invited by someone?
I hve witnessed a beheading in saudi, and there were children present.
It's all about different norms for different societies..
The MPAA never put a +16 or other even-numbered age bracket rating. Only odd numbers like PG-13, PG-15, NC-17 or R.
Ok so maybe I can also blame the Aussies for using the same code. LOL

PM, in some countries in ME, they amputate hands for stealing! They carry out these retributions in public!Even kids are allowed to watch. So kids in these parts are considered hard enough to watch these scenes.
I remember a graphic scene in the movie "Blood Diamond" where they chop off the hands of a man.
So the society here doesn't object to exposing their kids to such violent scenes because they are mentally tough enough for it.
your child to brief flashes of limited nudity or people showing affection, than exposing your child to violence and disturbing themes.
However in the Arab world you have a different view and think there is nothing wrong with exposing your kids to graphic violence. Many psychologists would counter that this exposure to violence is reflected in cultural attitudes in the Arab world (i.e., an acceptance of violence, danger and political and social instability). Who knows?

18 year old is significant. These are the factors that are taken into consideration with regard to movie ratings. However, culture also impacts maturity. That's why a rating system applicable to one society doesn't necessarily translate to another.

views as material that can be handled psychologically by people of a certain age. The problem is that every culture is, of course, different. In other words, ratings applied in the US to American movies would not necessarily apply here.
For example, in the US we rated Blood Diamond as R because of it's violence and themes. So no one under 17 is allowed to see it without permission of their parent or guardian. We take the psychological harm of exposure to violence pretty seriously, although we don't see kissing or even implied (not graphic) sexuality as damaging.
Here in Doha, I went to see Blood Diamond and the rating system was not enforced. Numerous Qatari women were taking their little children to see this movie, where children were killing people and the most graphic violence was on display. There is a scene in the film where 2 characters kiss, and THAT was cut out here in Doha.

what i mean
i think we are soooo selfish because we put our own "entertainment" ahead before our childs saftey
---------------------------------
"It could be a picture
It could be a medicine
it could be a bullet
depends on how you see it"
so we should really put the limits for the childs regarding nudity views .
but till now i didn't got my answer,
but make 18 years old different from 12
and what will happen if we expose the child to full time nudity .
everybody agree with me that we shouldn't but really what is wrong if we did?

"It could be a picture
It could be a medicine
it could be a bullet
depends on how you see it"
Everything that children see or hear in the media early on in their lives affects them in some way. Positive parenting role models indicate that in the best interest of our children we should limit their exposure to violent acts. Unfortunately, sex and violence is one of the most popular forms of entertainment. Over sixty percent of television shows being shown in prime time contain some form of violence. There are two very opposite sides of this issue. The media who market the violent television, video games and other forms of entertainment argue this is safe entertainment and the others argue that violence promotes violence...when chidren get exposed to the extremes...they start feeling a sense of comfort around those things...

so what will happen if a 12 years old boy see a movie with sexual contents, and the 25 years old man.
what are the differences ???
and if another study proved the opposite would we follow it?
