Not to Fill the Fuel Tank Full

Aftab Ismail
By Aftab Ismail

Qatar defence ministry has advised all vehicle owners not to fill the fuel tanks full, cause the next few weeks the temperatures will shoot up to 53-54 degrees Celsius and this can cause the fuel tanks to burst.

Please pass this message on as all of us here are habitual of filling our vehicles fuel tanks full.

It was just to divert the attention of public from what happened, and start worring about cars. Temperature droped. Do you see at least 42??

Cheap rumor .

It might happen if you are driving a 1960 TATA , but with the modern car generation petrol normally vaporises and it does NOT cook in the tank .

"Qatar defence ministry has advised" ... BIG Lie there!

Mr Aftab - The Liar, can you post the original Memo which has the official stamp of the ministry and signature of the official?

I second Marco's comments. Spreading false information likely to scare or bring about fear is irresponsible at best and nasty at worst.

Aftab Ismail: why don’t you defend your thread by posting a copy of the original memo here?

If you can’t do that then well WE are left with no option but call you a big fat ugly stupid lair for wanting to spread fear in ppl’s hearts in such a pathetic and irresponsible way. Shame on you!

It’s a false alert. an official from the govt denied the issue of any such warnings by the govtز

drive your car in space BUT dont bring it back to Earth, to avoid strong climatic reaction to Xplode :)

What a spam!

However, don't drive your car in space. Fuel will freeze and expand, then your tank might break.

I wont even call it Rumor, its CRAP and Misinformation being spread.

I don't believe Aftab when he says "memo from Civil Defence "...post the memo here with stamp of the ministry and signature of the official who issued it to prove that you are not lying..

it is common sense not to light a match anywhere near fuel. Duh! The fumes will set it off. Some people are too stupid for words.

50 or 54 degreesC can cause the gasoline to expand but it will not produce enough pressure for the tank to explode.

I know the source: FaceBook. it's roaming all over, they even posted the picture of the exploding car... I doubt it's true though..

Aftab, and how come only your company has received this personal Precaution note from the Civil Defense?.. why Civil Defense hasn't issued such a note to our company? They don't like us and don't mind our cars to explode?

Here is another reason not to top off your car, Its bad for your engine too.

"Qatar defence ministry has advised ..." Where is your source? This does not make sense. A tank of gas that is 1/10 full will vaporize into gas form and produce pressure in the fuel tank. On a hot day of 54 (can't see this happening any time soon) the tank may bulge but will not explode! A full tank remains in a liquid state as there is no space for vapor. Jeeez.

Modern tanks all have an overflow mechanism. No need to worry unless your car is from the 70's.

When the tank is full, there is no space for evaporation and the fuel remain as liquid.

When there is space in the tank, the fuel evaporates and the vapor creates a pressure inside the tank. When the temperature goes up, the pressure increases as the gas is expanding faster than the liquid. (you may have experienced a gas exhaust when opening the lid of an empty tank). The pressure can do two things. Wither it can increase and force the tank to blast or when the tank is opened, it can exhaust fuel vapor that can be ignited by the heated air.

What I feel is danger is higher in an empty tank rather than a full tank.

For your thoughts

What is the source ? Why would Defence Ministry advise on these issues?

I dont see any forecast of 53-54 Degrees !!!

By anonymous• 29 May 2012 15:34

Really? Yes gases and liquids expand as the temperature rises but not enough to make the tanks explode.
