No more CrAzy Drivers, is that right?
hi every one, good to meet u agin.,,
since the last traffic laws have been activated and the trafic police have been everywhere in doha, i have not seen any stupid annoying drivers any more. a little speedy but no stupid, not any more.
Although it was on a limited scale, It has been devastating for the reputation of the country and shameful in the street. i hope they ve learned thier lessons and never try doin this annoying driving again.
i dont wanna be tough on them ,because i represent the same age and i understand thier way of driving. and sometimes i even drive like them - of coarse in empty ,far from doha streets not putting anybody in danger- and every body wish to try something dangerous or different in this certain age.
finally, the most important thing to be accomplished the next few years is to reduce The proportion of accidents which was last year the biggest in the world.
thanx,,,
Salaam benqatar
i dont agree with u with the whole "dont see a danger using the phone"
OH MY GOD this is the most fraustrating thing that ticks us here.. its when a driver is talkingt on his cell or sendin a text message, its like khalas hes out of this world.. well its not an issue for the qataris they're used to it lol..(im just kidding dont take this personal)
but we've noticed this alot, once someone is on the phone they get very distracted, its not about talking with your eyes.. it just takes ur concentration away and thats dangerous.. infact i do it sometimes and i even forget what street im on once i hang up :S
Hang on in there..........
Wait till I get mine :-X
"The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it"
If you are referring to my post, I did not mention Qataries and, have you, ever driven in Dubai, Tehran, Ankara, Istanbul? Well I have, but the most dangerous driving I have ever experienced in all my life is in Qatar.
The tempo limit is too high considering the lack knowledge of traffic rules in the country and this goes for all nations, whoever came to live here drives the same as the others with very litle exceptions. In some cases you are obliged to drive faster to save your own life.
again and again the "generalizing" thing. see people qataries r only 200000 living in this country, so when u r on the street there are actually 20/100 percent of drivers who r qataries . so the generalizing is not logical at all. may be 1 or 1.5 percent max r that bad drivers as if in every country. and i still see it decreasing.
i was on a vecation in miami and i even saw a percent of people letting thier cars moving 20 to 30 km/h without actually driving it, just running beside them. thats ignorance but i dont call every american stupid driver.
again if some one on a hurry that does not mean u drive 60 km on the left lane. thats in the law also.
Good Morning,
apart from many wearing safety belts now nothing much has changed on my route to work, the same old hasslers are on the street, the same old thing using the mobile, the same old thing driving in the boot of the front driver, the same old thing just moving into to the lane with no regards to the drive at the back, the same old thing not using indicators, the same old thing flashing and harassing, the same old thing crossing three lanes at once, the same old thing going over red lights, now the newest of things, on the main streets with traffic lights the SUV's getting into left lane and then suddenly driving straight on.
No nothing has changed, but the blame it is not fair to blame one nationality and considering the amount of people driving and (who may have given them their driving licence)discipline has to be learned on the roads, and I think there are just not enough policemen to cover this.
It's everbodies duty to help improve road safety, and everyone should thing about what he/she is doing that might endager the life of the other driver. It doesn't help blaming each other.
I am a competent and experienced driver, I've never had an accident and in the UK I used to commute a long way to work and drive all the time. Here - no way! I dont want to drive here, it scares me... I feel constantly on edge, waiting for some maniac 4x4 driver to plough into the side of me.
I was driving just the other day - at the correct speed and an erratic 4x4 came zooming up behind me, flashing lights, virtually driving over me... you know what, I did nothing. Why should I move, I was approaching a roundabout, I was not going to slow, it's just intimidation.
I am constantly suprised for peoples disregard for road safety. Simple things like seat belts and keeping your children under control and wearing a seatbelt. People dont use indicators and leave their hazard lights on for no apparent reason, no one slows down at a roundabout...
I for one will be keeping my driving to an absolute minimum, I want to go home alive and not in a box with all the other luggage on the plane.
I plea with you all, take the time to drive carefully. By driving erratically and speeding, your not going to get their quicker, you'll just get their in an ambulance.
I hope that the laws will start to have some effect, However, I am afraid I am not entirely convinced.
absolutely, will just take time to vanish.
what i ment by my poet is my point of view as i drive nowadays and dont see reckless drivers who stress me in the road anymore.
u may see something else, and thats what we call it in the civilized world "difference of opinion". so its very normal to have opposite opinions, but the "over-reacting" to something from the past is called irreasonable opinion.
so i still optimistic about the new traffic law and what it can reaches.
thanx.,
international...not just here. No, you are right, you don't talk with your eyes...BUT the conversation can distract your thinking from the road and what you should be doing. I've seen many a driver..here and back home..that is just in their own little world, while talking on the phone..drifting in and out of lanes, slowing down to a crawl because they were obviously making a point in their conversation...or..turning into the oncoming lane because they couldn't see past the phone on the side of their face to check to see if anyone was beside them! Wireless are better...but they still can distract you. Not pointing the finger because I used to do it also..which is why I can say it distracts you..(you are safe people..I don't do that anymore!)
I also wasn't being pessimistic about the drivers here, but one thing you might want to keep in mind..if you drive fast then perhaps you may NOT notice how fast everyone else is driving..
Things have slowed a bit with the amount of reckless drivers..and I still think that will continue...will just take time..
Still lot of accidents .... its because its in the attitude of the drivers here....anyway thaey ahve the money to pay huge fine... unless they change thier attitude no way.. IF A PERSON IS A LAW ABIDER HE/SHE WILL ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RULES EVEN WITHOUT RADAR/CAMERA OR POLICE....SEE ITS AN ATTITUDE.
Ben Qatar ,
Nice to see your posts again here. I think I'm less "pessimistic" than some here, because I really sensed a change. I expect now that Traffic police are more "visible" things would probably change a bit and those who may feel like doing foolish things on roads will dare less . However, I just can't agree with you when you said: "and honestly i dont see a danger using the phone, u dont talk with ur eys and there also car speakers in most cars." How can you say that mate ?? You know the danger increases not only because you may use one of your hands, but mainly ( own experience) because your mind is being busy at that moment. When you're talking on phone you most of the time lose concentration, and we know all that ,while on road, concentration is a must. Stay safe all :)
تحية تقدير لشرطة مرور قطر .
Some are Wise ... Some are ...Otherwise
I hope you are right for they should have learned the lessons.
But old habbits die hard. Consider we are approaching winter time and police can petrol and be on the roads now. What will happen after march ????
Secondly; as a human nature when ever the cost of any particular thing is increased and I mean increased by a substantial amount (in this case fines), we all tend to adjust by altogether deleting the thing from our menu of life. Now that driving cannot be ignored and increased fines will take a while for all of us (Read US = rash drivers) to digest. Believe me once these wackoos digest and and increased fines get into their subconcious... they will back to square one..
..**.. ""They walk among us. They vote & they even reproduce"" ..**..
At nearly all intersections/ crossroads, call it what you will, theres a yellow crossed square where drivers shouldnt enter if the route is not clear. Its not a waiting zone. Numerous times ive waited for the lights to change to green but been unable to drive because the its full of cars travelling the other way still blocking junction. It now takes my wife or I 1 hour 30 mins to get the children to school in the morning. Its only a 10km round trip. Same junctions, same problems, same mentality. If you dont know the traffic laws, you shouldnt be on the road.
Impaitience and ignorance just about sums it up.

a few days I was shouted at by an expatriate for slowing at a signal even though it was green - reason being if I hade moved forward i would be stuck in the yellow square whih would have entailed a fine of QR 500. The guy just didnt want to understand. Crazy really.
Driving a car and not knowing the rules is not an excuse.
I know I couldve reported him for use of inappropriate language but just let him off.
I don't realy think you can expect a country of drivers of over 50 nationalities with all their different driving habits to suddenly drive carefully and defensively in the same manner.
That said I hope the new fines and points system serve to make people tow the line.
And to the dottery dippy dolally driver who was trundling along at 65km in the fast lane today on the North Road despite the efforts of at least three drivers to get him to change lanes........MOVE OVER to the slow lane and let the traffic flow!!!

Love is the answer...
The traffic law states no mobile phones.....( not exact words obviously), yet you openly admit you cant see the danger in it. There lies the problem, too some, the Law means nothing. As far as i can see, nothing has changed on the roads so far. More Police and more fines perhaps but the standard is the same.

well I was lucky enough to witness this. Not only once but more than twice:
A luxury sedan was driving erratically in front of me and I didn't know why. When we came abreast, indeed the driver was talking on his phone.... but wait .... he is using a hands-free gadget!
So why is he still driving erratically while using a hands free phone?
Because he was gesturing with both his hands as if whoever he was talking to on the phone could see his hands and he using his elbows to steer.
Mind you I've seen this on different occassions. With the way they are driving, speaker phones are no use. Good luck to all of us!
i still see the pessimistic side of u. come on why dont i see that kind of drivers nowadys, i drive much in doha.
and honestly i dont see a danger using the phone, u dont talk with ur eys and there also car speakers in most cars.
where there are no radars there's speeding, where there are no traffic policemen there are many drivers speaking on mobiles, where there are no cameras at signals people still break the red light.
so where has it improved?
Then good people like you ask why expats r hesitant to contact locals....lol.I saw a driver jump a signal today......see people use phone while driving as if they r least pushed by the law
Life is too short and if u r not living on the edge then u r taking up too much space.
on the Qatari who was driving like an idiot, stopped a bus and got physical with him, hitting, yelling and spitting on the poor man..check it out...
Now as far as the lunatic drivers...haven't seen as MANY..but yes, they certainly are out there still...
Perhaps as time goes on...things will change a bit more...until then...DRIVE CAREFULLY, the life you save may be your own!!!
