I went to give blood this morning and it turns out the patient can only have O- blood!! As I am A- I was a little sad that I could not help. Doctors had mis informed Mohammed about the blood group that was needed!!

Typical for this country but when a life is at stake its not so good!!! Shame on you Doctors at Hammad and I hope this young man manages to get the blood for his op...

I have just found that a person can only donate 1 pint of blood at a time.

I have contacted Mohammed and he is waiting to speak to the doctor regarding my donation and said he already has 3 "packets of blood". I presume that he meant 3 pints so with my 1 pint he will still need another 2 pints.

Also with blood that is donated, it can't be used immediately, they test it extensively for diseases and then only use it. (They actually centrifuge the blood and break it down into different components because one person might not need everything that comes with the blood. They usually require just one component of the donated blood.)

Yea, they don't accept blood if you've been out of the country in the past 3 months.

They won't accept the blood if you are underweight. (A male adult weighing less than 50 KG cannot donate).

They wont' accept the blood if you've been on antibiotics or certain other kind of medication (I don't know which ones) in the past week.

meandyou - you can donate the blood before you leave - they can store it but I'm not sure for how long.

me and you... if you travel out of Country and return they might not accept your blood since you have to wait for 3 months.
