MEA - Muslim Expat Association (NEW SOCIETY)

Hey/Salam

After speaking to a few people, and generating intrest, I think we have enough people to engage and make this society a worthwhile society. However I cannot do it by myself and will need as much help as possible!

Now a couple of things, obviously, the Sisters will want their own wing of the soceity, as will the single brothers, as well as the married ones, well for simplicity reasons, for now, I think we should concentrate on a Sisters and a Brothers ones. And then through that develop one for families, I obviously cant set up the sisters one, and as I am not married yet, will not have anyone to set up the sisters one, I will need someone to help start and co-ordinate the sisters one.

A couple of things we can do as a group, well we can obviously meet and eat! After all unlike the UK/USA/Austraila/Canada/South Africa or wherever your from, all the food here is halal and for most of us thats such a blessing!

Additionaly to that, we can hopefully arrange Islamic talks from time to time, and lets make it clear though its called Muslims Expats Association, it should be used by all Muslims (expat or not) and all Expats (muslim or not) however the talks will be in English, and will provide the Muslim Expat Community with more information for their dean, and increase darwa for those around us.

If anyone else has any ideas, I would really appreciate it!

With saying all this, I want to see the avilability for meeting next Thursday, 26th April for a Dinner around 7.30pmm please to be decided. Again this a Brothers only event, however like I said if a sister wishes to organise soemthign I will gladly try to help as much as I can.

Finally if any of you on facebook ( a networking site like myspace but better!) then please add me, my name is Sheikh Asif Mahmood, and we can maybe set up a group forum on their which will make it easier for people to communicate...

Take Care

Asif

whatever group we form i am for volunteer activities, helping the needy, providing for the less fortunate.

to me it will make no sense if we only keep meeting, chat about religion, eat good food, that allah swt has provided for us, subhana'allah (initially to get to know one another its good), but we should have other ground plans.

blood donation drive,

visit to handicapped schools.

charity activities: distribuytion of food, old clothes at labour camps.

can we have this?

for the few who earn well, alhamdullilah we can use the money we have been blessed with by making things a little simpler for the less fortunate and the labour class come to my mind.

there are some organisations, muslim org who are active in such charity work. we must get in touch with them and see how they carry out their activites.

pls dont feel offended by my point of view.if my view hurts anyone, then i apologise at the outset.

happy heart

hows everyone doing?

i would like to be a part of this group too but what are we gonna be doing? i am not for preaching or having religious meetings, for me religion is pretty private.i dont like impositions nor impose anything on anybody else. live and let live. for lectures we already have the dawah centre, the qatar islamic centre where they give lectures on islam.

but i would love to meet more muslim families, ladies.

what is the motto of this group? lets be more specific.

stormy...what exactly would you like to do in this group? i like the idea that thie will be open to all muslims.

where is hussamf? hussamf and apple are masha'allah very good at explaining islam. i think watwat has a slight misunderstanding with apple, insha'allah it should be resolved.

Assalam-u-alaikum Asif. I think this is a wonderful idea. I'm new to Doha myself (been here since January of this year), and I've been looking for a society/organization like this. I would love to help support its initiatives inshaAllah. Unfortunately, I don't really have a network of Muslim friends within Qatar who I could spread the word amongst, but you can certainly count on my support! Let me know what I can do to help.

Assalamu Alaikum,

I would help with organizing the sisters wing.....however I'm not even in Doha yet!!!!!

BUT someone should really take the lead and help in shaping this out....I'll join in once I get there!!! For tips on what activities can be carried out through this assocation, am sure with several minds working together they're will be several suggestions and ideas will flow in just as quickly as members do!!

Although there is no need to justify to any 'person' why some of us want to have a society of this sort...there is no pressure on anyone to join( a given)...yet, I would like to question the legality of such an association and scope of the activities we can carry out legally through it, in Qatar??? I remember when I lived in the Saudi, any sort of grouping or dawaa was not allowed, unless it was sponsored by the government itself. I would definitely check this out, I would not want anyone getting into trouble!!

Take care,

Ayesha

Salamz

Now I dont know who those people are WATWAT however im sure they arent against Islam maybe disagree with it, or against certain people who are muslims, eitherway by calling them bastards, your fitting the sterotype of agressive muslims.

Ok so I have had a few responses and I would greatly appreciate more responses if people can speak to collegues or friends/family about the society and spread the word, this can be a really great thing and help muslims especially ones from English speaking countries settle in a lot more easier in Qatar.

I have been here 8 months, and it was hard intitally however I have managed to somehow make a few muslim friends, but I want to make it easier for future muslims to join. And increase talks in english...which is one of the key things.

As well as the social aspect and making friends..

I think it's a great idea to have such a forum where we can learn and improve our knowledge about Islam and think of new methods for DAAWA. We can also introduce the true Islam to everybody and answer the mis-conceptions which are attached to our religion.

As-Salamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah,

It’s an opportunity to meet friends who have religious and cultural similarities. It is also a channel for wives who aren’t working (who accompany their husbands to Doha) to make friends you know.

Alhamdulillah I have met many non expat friends here, but it's also nice to meet people who share similar interests (television shows, sports etc.). Its purpose can be to help expat Muslims assimilate.

The name will work itself out within the context of the conversation. When I’m talking about College Sports, and I say:

“The SEC (Southeastern Conference) is toughest conference to play in.”

No one thinks I’m talking about the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) :)

And yes, by the way, The SEC is the toughest conference to play in but thats a different thread ;)

It's true there are very few classes, lectures, halaqas in English

I think it's a brilliant idea and is much needed!

Han19 & Aisha

I definately think you ladies can help out with the sisters wing...you guys are definately well aquainted with everybody.

Ok, firstly the name is still in works, but im sure people will not get confused when i say MEA and realise im not speaking bout the airline more about the society.

And regards about having a society, well there is plenty need, how many talks are their here that are in English? How many things are their that encourage muslim non-arabic speakers into Qatari Society? Their is little integration for muslim expats, and this is a way to have some integration.

Thanks for your comments!
