Looking for Qatari Stories!
Folktales are stories that haven't been written down, but are passed from one generation to another by word of mouth. They are the tales that you were told as a child sitting on your grandparents' knee--tales your grandparents learned from their own grandparents. Examples include the story of Fsaijrah and the magic fish, or stories about djinn.
We are collecting these stories to publish in a book about the folktales of Qatar, as well as an animated film. Our goals is to help preserve and share the rich heritage and storytelling traditions of Qatar. Our project will present both the original Qatari Arabic as well as a quality English translation.
Our team includes students and faculty from Qatar University and Cornell, and our project is sponsored by the Qatar National Research Fund.
If you are Qatari and would like to share your stories, or have a friend or relative who might like to share theirs, please contact us at [email protected].
We're happy to answer questions or talk about our project in more detail. I hope you'll consider helping us, and please--do spread the word!
...No problems...
Great minds think alike, MLK! This is a UREP grant from the 8th cycle, so nothing to fear. We've been working on this since last fall. But I'd love to hear more about your work! I'm happy to share our experiences, too.
...it looks very similar to a part of my project i left at Qatar Foundation on which i'm still waiting an answer...really bizarre, shall i start to be paranoid?
