Loneliness

JamesInDoha
By JamesInDoha

I suppose this is more of a "let it out" thread then anything~not so sure as far as to whether or not this thread is allowed or not, but..I have been here in Qatar for a small time, yet i feel my self very secluded in my villa. All i have is my family, im glad that i have found a forum where i can chat with others and have now found out about the Trick Or Treat QL Meet coming this Saturday. But getting out there and being with others seems so far away. I am a tad scared as to what others would think of me when i do go out and explore Doha. I went out to dinner tonight with my family to celebrate my moms pregnacy and when i look around, i don't see any others who are like me. The clothes i wear are much different then those around me and i feel like im being stared at for being different, although im really not. I guess all i really want is some companionship...im tired of being lonely..:( Please forgive me if this is to not be allowed on QL and if it is needed to be deleted then by all means, go ahead.

James - I truly hope it gets easier for you. I also feel like people are constantly staring at me, but now I just ignore it or smile at them, much to my hubby's annoyance ;-)

Sites like QL are fantastic source of info'. Had sites like this been available when I came here, I would have have gone in better informed, there's no doubt about that.

QL is a great medium for identifying facts about Qatar and educating us all (within the specific subject matter threads), whether good or bad factual content. It's the factual debate and information gathering that follows on from this that helps most people to form their own conclusions.

But also QL, where necessary, could be a very powerful means of bringing people together, to act as a lobby group. But only if they are willing to do so based on the facts presented.

So my point is everybody IS welcome here and this IS a good place for all if they could find the most out if it!

:)

On a serious note..

IMHO , this is not the place for dsomeone of your age group. (If your profile is correct).

At your stage of life , you need to be in the "real world" experiencing life. If you truly feel depressed and lonely, then I suggest you convey this to your parents and make them understand.

Good Luck..

James...judging by your profile...you look okay... only thing you might be a decent prey for gays (there are many here looking for boys like you) so beware...

Make friends on QL and hangout with them...you will be fine dude...

James,

The only way to stop feeling lonely is to stop feeling lonely. All of us who are single, will go through the feeling at some point here.

The only way is to push it out of your mind, and get out. The longer you wallow in it, the worse it gets.

It may not be easy, but necessary to retain your sanity.

Hope you're feeling better James. Trust me, I'm in the same boat. Just make you come on Saturday. I'm looking forward to meeting another Texas native.

James,

This is not a normal country, especially for some one who comes from western cultures. The way we are educated and stimulated to think and express ourselves in a free environment, does NOT apply here.

People here think and act as per the masses' acceptance criteria, individuality here is not welcome. If you try to step out of these hidden norms or express critical independent thinking, you will be crashed and eventually silenced.

Just remember the abnormality is not you, it's rather this place and the culture that rules it. Initially it might appear at the surface to be just like any other country, but as you get to know it, you will realize that isn't the case.

It’s going to be tough but with some time and persistence, you may find 1 or 2 friends that you may relate too. If not, don't loose touch of where you came from, you might need to go back before you initially planned.

More important, don’t forget who you are, and try not to be affected by all the moral policing that destroys individuality in such society, so that one day when you will leave, you will only leave with positive marks!

All the best

I looked into your profile(sorry) dude, you really are weird!! just kidding, go out man, there are quite a few bars here that you can hang out. go malling. Don't let other people's stare bother you. for me it's rude to stare at other people. you don't need this thread to be deleted, there's nothing wrong with it. QL I think was created for people in Doha to socialize even at work through their PCs :) use QL to socialize if you can't go out...

Don't worry boy.! sure its a mixed culture here and you could see people from the farthest corner of earth. So better see it as an opportunity to make even more friends, than you ever thought. QL can be a good option for you to know people and chat with them , may be to arrange a get together too..And dont really worry about what others might think about you! let 'em think whatever they wanted to...Remember that all who love you, love you for what YOU really ARE!! Like Bob Marley said, "Dont Worry Be happy" :)
