Le Cinéma Villaggio!
After Jane01 posted about the Villaggio Cinema, I finally got around to visiting the place. By the time I got free, it was too late and I could catch only an 11pm show.
That was good in a way. I could go about looking at the place without much interruption. First off, I asked the security people if it was ok to take pictures and they obliged with a smile. And so that was how I started my tour of the Villaggio cinema.
The cinema is located next to the Virgin mega store. As you enter, you can see ticket counters on the left and right sides. The Filipino girls sitting at the counter are ultra helpful and they greeted me with a smile. And the food area was also very tastefully made up.
The cinema timings are just like in City Centre. Different shows start until 11.45pm. usually, by that time, there are very few people around. So if any of you feel less than sleepy in the night, just take yourself to the Villaggio Cinema and treat yourself to a good movie.
The one thing which I liked very much about the entire set-up was that it is completely lined up with lush, soft carpet. It’s even better than the red carpet at the City Centre cinema. Friendly faces meet you again at the different theatre entrances. There is even an escalator which connects the movie to the upper part. However, I didn’t explore where the escalator took us. My bad.
I wanted to see the 3D movie, but unfortunately I was late by about 15 minutes and the movie had already begun. However the gatekeeper was kind enough to open the door and give me a sneak-peak at the movie. Of course, me or my camera was not wearing a 3-D glass and hence the image appears blurred. I’ll soon be going back for the full movie experience.
There are more than 10 screens at the theatre (though I’m not sure of the exact number). The tickets are priced differently. There are tickets for QR 35, QR 45 and QR 55 for the Imax theatre. The seats also vary. I sat in a theatre which had 110 seats. The biggest theatre can seat 380 people.
The seats are bright red, just like at City centre Cinema. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. If you ask me if I would go there again, the answer would be a resounding YESSSS!
Take your loved ones there, you’ll enjoy the ride. Unlike in City Centre, you can find ample parking space even on a Friday, if you’re OK to park the car across the road and walk about 100 metres to the cinema.
Balcony seats has more leg rooms, you can change seat position to 90 degree. Ticket cost QR. 45. Didn't expierenced it but you can ask cinema staff on counter while buying tickets.
Only 3 cinema has balcony seats.
Not bad. Quite nice. Looks like the cineplexes I'm used to back home. I was walking about Villagio one evening after work and saw the cinemas - spanking new. Although I wanted to watch "2012" but it was too late for me to stay out without company.
Bastook said Who knows how can we get the movies schedual??
is it same as the ones in City Center?? do they have a website??"
- No, not the same. The Movie and Entertainment Guide I picked up for future ref states the website as www.bccmovies.com. You might want to try that.
And yeah, the best thing is the parking is not as horrendous as City Centre's. The reason why I frequent CC is because of the cinema.

great shots! would have to experience the iMax here as well.. :)
Wow! Nice pics Wanderer... I'll go there and experience it for myself... =)
Great Post....lovely pics...
The Design Looks very similar to the City Centre Cinema ....almost an exact replica. although the carpets and furniture design is different.
Its always good to have more cinemas.....and just perfect for Villagio setting....where the mood is relaxed.....unlike the City Centre where the mood is "hurried".
loved the carpet pics! the use of yellow and violet remind me of van gogh's stary night painting!
Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14% of people know that.
wow nice pics
thanks for sharing
You can go to http://www.bccmovies.com/index.asp and see the movies and timings of the new theatre. Note that the movies change each Thursday. I plan on going tomorrow. Glad to see the pictures.
again i say. if they don't have a real website and an online bookin. it's not even a step forward for cinemas in Qatar.
I think there is a Hindi movie - Wake Up Sid - running. Better check it out.
