Kuwait City, May 8: Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Sunil Jain has kicked up a controversy by undiplomatically declaring that Gujarat chief minister Nadrendra Modi led government would soon come to power in India.

He was addressing in a public gathering of large numbers of expatriates and Kuwaiti nationals on the premises of Indian Community School, Kuwait.

Talking about India-Kuwait bilateral relations Mr Jain asserted: “Election process is going on in India and soon Modi led government will assume over and this will create more business opportunities.”

These unexpected remarks from a senior diplomat created a furor among the multicultural Indian audience. Many of them felt that it was very much objectionable and against the protocol for an incumbent ambassador of India to give such a statement which is highly political and prejudiced in nature.

Later speaking to the media persons, the ambassador justified his controversial statement and emphasized that Mr Modi has been the chief minister of Gujarat for three terms.

Meanwhile, some of the members in the audience, sharing their views with media wondered whether Mr Jain was ambassador of India or ambassador of BJP in Kuwait.

Media One, a Kerala based TV channel telecasted his speech highlighting his rhetoric on Modi led government overtaking power in India, which is being circulated through WhatsApp and other internet based media creating wider dissatisfaction and polarization among Indian expatriates having various political affiliations.
