A Qatari visited India and came back to Qatar Where he met his Indian friend who asked him How did u find my Country The Qatari said it is a great country With solid ancient history And immensely rich with natural resources. The Indian friend then asked. How did u find Indians??

Indians??
Who Indians??
I didn't find or met a single Indian there in India.

What nonsense??
Who else could u met in India then??
The Qatari said...
In Kashmir I met a Kashmiri
In Punjab a Panjabi
In Bihar, Maharastra, Rajasthan, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala,Bihari, Marathi, Marwadi, Bengali, Tamilian, Malayali

Then i met

A Hindu,
A Muslim,
A Christian,
A Jain,
A Buddhist

And many many many more But not a single Indian did i meet

Think how serious this joke is..
The day would not be far off when indeed we would become a collection of nation states as some Regional anti-national politicians want...

Ofcourse I do support socialising and getting togethers... but unnecessary socialising and get togethers should be avoided instead we must make some kind of budget (each individual) which goes for the 'Community Help' ...

I suggest one of you should come forward and lead the Group...

This is also a kind of Volunteer work :-)

Not really rms. what speed meant is the welfare of the community :)

Obviously socialising and getting together are also a part of it.

guys the purpose of making a 'Community Group' is to serve the community in better way not to hang out for movies and clubs/ bars or to just waste money on yourself for your satisfaction and entertainments :-D

One should kill his wish to help is brothers and sisters in need.

Why not rms? Look at the Filipino expats group. At the time it is the biggest one I know. And I am sure there are many Indians too on QL. May be some of them are shy to participate in forum debats. But if somebody can give them an opportunity to converse in the language they are most comfortable in, why can't we form the biggest group?

Everything's gonna be alright!!!

It depends upon the group..

some group like QLSG,QLVG,MMM is beyond web .. like meetings, picnic, volunteering etc etc.. but some group like QL Kairali is limited to web...

n ye considering in Qatar , it ll b biggest.. but i dont think it ll be in QL !

Hey please clear me one thing when we talk about starting an Indian group. Should we restrict the group activities only as a web forum or should we go beyond the limits of web? I mean like arranging get-togethers and coffee meets, movie hangouts. What would you say? Won't it difficuilt to arrange and manage such a huge group? (considering our number in Qatar it should be the biggest group, what say?)

Everything's gonna be alright!!!

On a question and answer convo, yes you are right. But when its othewrise, they act different. Like what I posted above.

Here in Qatar we have one Indian Cultural centre atleast, otherwise , all the places I have lived, its statewise associations of Indian expats.

It is quite simple!

I've asked several people where they are from and they'll say, "India" or "Pakistan" or "England" or whatever. The people will rarely get more detailed than that, unless I ask for specifics.

When I'm asked, I say, "the US" and if asked, "Where in the US?" I'll then say, "Texas."

NOW, in the US, I am (of course) more specific and say "Houston"--people just know that Houston is in Texas.

No big deal.

Arien: Fine here in Dubai. Again, its about who you are talking to..If somebody asks me in malayalam where i am from I would obviously take the name of my village/district and not the name of my country or the state. if somebody asks me in hindi, I would say Kerala. and ofcourse, if its someone whose not an India, I would say india. Quite simple, really! :-)

Tcom - Sad but true.. you are right , and it has its reasons too. Unlike any other country , India has differennce in culture, language and life style in each state. That could be the reason.

Shreeya- whats written is just a joke, but the point what Tcom highlighted is true.

We can simply prove this ..There are more than 400 000 Indians in Qatar. There are many in QL. Is there an Indian group out here?? NO, but you will see a Kerala Kairali and Mahrashtrians.

TCM ur post is very very pertinent... and what Shreeya says is the most idealistic and should be situation ... however we all know majority of the people do in fact mention the state from where they belong rather than from India.. and this they say not only to Indians (if they guess the person right) but to anyone.... obviously the person if not from India asks where is that and then comes "its in India'. Feels so shameful at times...

I for sure always say I am from India and then later if someone wants... the place in India.

I have at times even lost my cool with such useless people and retorted very strongly... but then some (or rather many) of these are just incorrigible... they tend to carry the mindset wherever we go..

I speak with a very soft Aussie accent so lots think I am Kiwi. I have mistaken Canadians for Americans. Most people would not really be able to tell the difference between a Scottish, Irish, Welsh or British accent. They are just Brits.

Within England you only need to travel 5 miles and it is different. Accent is hard, so is twang. Best be up front and say, the country first and then the region.

I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!

just take the point wat TCOM post.. its the comon atitude of many Indians .. like malabaries think they are the best.. maharashtrians think they are the best,.. and there is no feeling like we all r Indians..

If somebody thinks a Srilankan as an Indian, then again is it a matter of life or death? The Srilankan can always correct him. And inturn the Indian can apologise and continue the conversation.

We all are from Indian sub-continent and thus we all look so similar to each other.

Secondly I find a big mistake with your story TCOM. If somebody visits India majority of the people he is going to meet there are obviously Indians. Then what is the point in saying that he hasn't met any Indian? There are very few immigrants in India as the country itself is highly populated.

Everything's gonna be alright!!!

See TCOM, when two Indians meet each other, they obviously know that they both are from India. So the conversation starts from telling from the part to which you belong to. When a Keralite tells me that he is from Kerala, he takes it for granted that I know he is from India first.

Again, there is absolutely nothing wrong imho.

Everything's gonna be alright!!!

I think TCOM when we are in India we are like Maharashtrians, Keralites, Goans, Punjabis and so on. But when we are outside India, we are simply Indians. I don't know about others but in may case the conversation usually starts like that:

Someone: Are you Indian?

Me: Yes.

If I meet somebody from US I don't tell him that I am from Maharashtra, I tell him that I am from India only.

and then immidiately the other person asks "from which part?" and then you have say from where you belong to. I don't think any wrong in it.

I have seen people hoisting their southern or northern flags of a tiny island. Then again I know people who are very proud of being a Texan..what's so wrong about it?

Everything's gonna be alright!!!
