The Intercontinental Hotel Doha SUCKS!

Just a heads up to everyone. I had some guests coming to town next week and thought that booking a Suhour meal for about 14 people at the Intercon would be a nice idea.

I phoned, and booked. They accepted my booking and because the group size was larger than 12, asked if I could put a 50% deposit down to confirm the booking. They gave me a few days to do it.

Yesterday they called and said that a larger company had offered to buy up all their seats and that they were going to cancel my booking. They'd be happy to sit my party on another day though!

I was irate. How would I know that they wouldn't cancel this other booking too if someone wanted it? Besides, all my guests were booked for the original night. What was the point of booking if they could arbitrarily break their commitments. Do this do this when people are booking rooms too? And I asked the Philipina on the phone what she thought I should tell my guests when I told them that we would not be at the Intercontinental, "Should I tell them what a poor hotel the Intercon is that they don't honor their commitments?" She had nothing to say.

So now I'm telling you. Beware of teh Intercon. They are liars and cheats.

should at the least offer a free meal for next visit to soften the insult of canceling..did they at least refund deposit?

I'm about to make a huge booking for a group of 15 pax +/- at the Marriott for brunch. Will see how that goes..

I hope the reservation agents won't "bluff" when I confirm my reservations.

if you knew that even the security guy there could stop the customer at the gate without any reason, and when the customer complained to the duty manager, he also didnt make any apology, then you would not be surprised that they cancled your booking for big customer.

we provide advance payment. However they keep pressuring

that we will selll the rooms (group bookings) are always wobbly.

Did you give them 50% deposit? Well their iftars and suhoor's are very popular it doesnt mean they have to cheat

very unprofessional, disgusting and shameful. If you have everything in writing then raise your voice. Dont let them

cheat again

Davidtaylor, i did not put the blame on them, i said clearly "poor employees with lack of experience" which means again "management mistakes".

amnesia, you need to read the post again, house_atreides said (they were going to cancel my booking)!!! the disgusting decision has already been taken!!! i would say a small grocery store services is much better than a big 5 a**s intercon

lol people obviously don't know their rights.

She was BLUFFING to see if she could get rid of you. A deposit is an acceptance to honour a commitment, It works BOTh ways.

You should have said no lol.

Sallamnz agree with the management point but the employees will not go against their manager.

The matter is very simple.

bad management+ poor employees with lack of experience= Ghastly crappy services

Your post makes no sense. There was no promise to the larger customer. The hotel decided to act dishonorably, that's all there is to it. As other posters have said, this is normal in Doha.

In general, service standards here are abysmal and very few people can be relied upon. People give you wrong information about everything and hardle ever do what they say they will do.

They should send everyone here working in the service sector to Malaysia to learn how to do things properly.

Just call me Tigasin. That's what I'm talking about

If you were the manager, would you care about breaking your promise to small customer or a larger customer?

I am sure you would have done the same thing.

I am not sure if they tried to work something out with the other party or not because that should have been the first step.
