Indians are best educated, top earners in US

catsniper
By catsniper

The 1.5 million Indian Americans in the US continue to top the US Census charts as the best-educated, highest-paid and top-placed community among the 38.1 million foreign-born population in the country.

As per a fresh analysis of data on the foreign-born population from the 2007 American Community Survey, 74 percent of Indian-born US residents had bachelor's degree or higher, which was far more than the figure for people born in any other foreign country.

This was also nearly three times the 27 percent of the foreign-born and about 28 percent of the natives having bachelor's degrees, showed the new analysis that was released by the US Census Bureau of the Commerce Department.

These figures come from the new detailed characteristic profiles on the foreign-born population, or people who were not US citizens at birth, available on the basis of their countries of birth.

"Among the foreign-born, those from India, Australia, South Africa and the Philippines have the highest median household incomes," said the analysis, indicating the top positions Indian enjoy among the US workforce.

Gross Place - Rat Temple

In Deshnoke, India there's a temple dedicated to rats. The people here believe these rats are the reincarnated spirits of storytellers so they take special care of them. Thousands of rats live in the temple where they are fed milk and other tasty treats, which some pilgrims eat afterward because it's considered a blessing to eat food that has been nibbled by the rats. Mmmm... rat saliva.

I am not blind nor have blocked my mind to learn new things from anybody including you! Remember Richierichie in the context you mentioned, may be your friend's version what you were portraying now, if you would have told before, this conversation wouldnt have happened! Now see you proved your friend spoke in an encouraging way about a country he visited whereas your comment was what about millions of people does not know to read and write in India and THIS POST is about US Born Indians achievement! Go back and see your first comment which questions against the main post!!!

May be to counter my reply, you must have gone back to your friend and got the right version now!

Like I mentioned in my above postings, that the world contributes its growth in a mutual way, strengths and areas of improvements are always there and whoever extends his or her hand in any way in any part of the world, it is always appreciable and highly commendable and most important if he is an outsider, even more praiseworthy like your Priest friend did! My point is again do not generalise negatively any thing based on your opinion!

I think it's one of the most difficult to describe India. I've seen many programs on the TV about India, but no-one of them could show the experience of being there, the pleasant and disgusting smells, the endless noise in the main streets of the big cities. If you look for something completely different than the Western world so India is the place. India is a huge country and this is the reason in a period of 3 weeks I saw only small part of this interesting country and the information.

Yes, I second that victor fully because the attitude in the right way is known only for positivity and brings out the best character of a human being that anybody will look upon and admire, if it is otherwise, is sheer arrogance nothing else but again sometimes unwillingly you have to speak the language that the people understand, most of the time they ask for it, when we dont intend to even utter a word in that direction!!

SO PINOY,

this is what I was conveying in all my postings that we cannot generalise about anybody anything or any country as a whole in a negative way based on an individual opinion!

I am a strong believer that global connection and growth happens through equal contribution from all the parts of the world. There are strengths and areas of improvement everywhere, but no one has got any right to criticise it in public with reference to any nationality, origin or community as a whole!

If somebody generalises a nationality or a community in a negative way because of a personal incidient or an opinion, he or she will ask for a fitting and attacking reply in their own same language of comment! SO pinoy, I Repeat that either GROW UP OR SHUT UP! PEACE

Great Humanitarian TASK BY INDIANS (BROUGHT UP) IN US

Publication:Times Of India Ahmedabad;

Date:Jul 16, 2007;

Section:Global Gujarati;

Page Number:16

The good Samaritans

When a brother-sister duo took pizza to shelters for the homeless in New York, it was not just food that these second generation Gujarati youngsters got the poor. They got some special moments for those who haven’t had many

Raja Bose

June 20, 10.30 am. The mood at Bread and Life on 75, Lewis Avenue, Brooklyn, is ecstatic. There is music, dance and a sense of gay abandon. A day, inmates of this centre for

the homeless, will probably remember all their lives.

And, bringing a smile on their faces is the brother-sister duo in the US — Obaid Kadwani and Qurrat Ann Kadwani — who spearheaded the ‘Pizza for the Homeless’ project, getting pizzas, along with live music and lots of fun to five shelters for the homeless in NYC, Brooklyn and Bronx.

“We come from a culture of service. We have very lofty role models like Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa. It was logical to combine the arts with community service,” says Obaid, a celebrity among South Asians across America for hosting a national TV show about Bollywood called ‘Namaste America.’ His father migrated to the US 23 years ago.

Obaid, who’s family has roots in Kutch, runs a non-profit multicultural arts company, Eyeblink, that has caused a stir in New York City through this project.

The project has seen 75 large pizzas being donated a day to different NYC shelters, every day for a week. Pizza Hut has joined the grand pizza sponsor for this humanitarian initiative, donating a free full-house pizza for every pizza that Eyeblink has purchased from them. According to statistics, as many as 5,000 slices of pizza have been distributed.

“The over-arching idea is to show that you can have one good thought, regardless of where it originates, and, because humanity is basically good, people will jump onto the bandwagon and that same good thought will become a firestorm of good. Even a dollar does make a difference,” says Qurrat Ann Kadwani, artistic director of the NGO. All projects are approved by her and she makes sure that the projects fit the vision and the mission of the company.

Obaid promises that this would become an annual project and would increase in scope every year. “Our donors have shown us their commitment. The shelters and kitchen have shown us the need. As requested by the shelters, we will be back. However, we need everyone to help,” he says.

Project ‘Pizza for Homeless’ created a pizza party and a special moment for those that don’t have too many special moments. And, it has evoked warm response.

Yemi Oyaname, nutritionist and manager of St. John’s Bread and Life in Brooklyn, said that Eyeblink had done something never done before, “In 27 years of existence, nobody has ever thrown a pizza party for our guests. People were dancing, clapping, and everyone was so excited. Having the live music was just amazing,” says Oyaname.

Reverend Steve Sele of Love Gospel Kitchen in the Bronx echoed her sentiments. “This is so different for us. Eyeblink

and its donors are spreading so much love. We want Eyeblink to come back every year. Just look around at all these happy faces. This means so much to them.”

Swoan Parker, who volunteered to take pictures at Love Gospel Kitchen in Bronx, was seen fighting back tears. A woman had told her that she would skip her meal so that she could take the pizza back to her sick husband who hadn’t eaten all day, even though she herself had not eaten all day either. “Thanks to the plentiful pizza provided by Eyeblink and its donors, the woman was able to eat and take some pizza back for her ailing husband,” says Parker.

”Eyeblink was initially formed as a theatre company and has grown and evolved into an arts organisation. The theatre department has been doing a very innovative, ongoing series called ‘American Colors.’ We also give away at least 200 seats per week to underprivileged people including abused children, battered housewives

good point there..

Actually, being in a forum of different nationality, of different perception and ideas, everyone has a voice or an opinion regarding the related topic.

I do believe that the posting, whatever it may bring to others, poses a sign of improvement and shows positivity. Come on guys, be proud of their achievements. Give them a chance. I also feel lucky, honored and proud, if asian, european or any other expats will do good to other country not only for themselves but for the sake of their country where they came from.

Macliam, I dont understand how you re relating peoples needs with those of salary in figures?

In my neighbourhood, I have seen few westerners including brits buying everyday almost cigrattes and other daily stuff from a small grocery shop next to my villa where even I dont buy any stuff, Does it mean that they are earning less salary or they are not having enough money to drive down to some decent mall like City center to buy!

LuLu Hypermarket is known for indians as a perception, in reality you can find most of the westerners over the weekend shopping there!

It is just a matter of convenience and needs of a personal requirement at that given moment that will vary from individual to individual, family to family and has got no relation to nationality! do not generalise and relate with such a vast topic under discussion!

We are smart working too...Proud to be an Indian.....I was working for one of the leading Banks(SW section) in US..Guess what right from the top official to the least post there were quiet a lotta Indians and they were paid par with US citizens.Thatz one thing good about US..

EMN, We have many other issues to be settled in India before we go back ..Thatz the reason we end up in the US or any other country.Itz like too many SMEs spoil the project....We never had shortage of skill or knowledge.

Could be Shreeya, my point is who is he for that anybody to presume and restrict a figure on his own about a lifestyle of a country, whom he doesnt even know!

What bewilders me is that the audacity of people (irrespective of nationality) they just put brackets about a country, nationals and enter into loose talks!

I dont tolerate talking in such ways about any nationality be it mine or any other in the world.

Thanks and regards,

People need to start realizing that India is behind noone or second to none!

Everymother...girl, you send your son to the US, you might find him working his azz off in a supermarket till he earns his degree... and this was about being educated and earning good...so check that out ey... you dont find too many indians who are EDUCATED Working in supermarkets do you girl... :P It is about climbing every step and reaching the top rather than getting spoon fed by a rich family and driving a Porsche or a BMW...

Ozgur...well lets just say what shreeya has told you, I would surely stand by it!

Shreeya, well said!

Guess they have to compensate the Indains for giving up their Nationality and Indian passport when they take on the US passport/green card.. lol

Where as lots of other nationalities can keep dual nationalities Indains can't as I know.

Yes Indians are hard working, no doubt about that, even Mr Patel the guy who runs our Corner Shop is very hard working, putting in 14 to 16 hours a day 7 days a week.

Dear Shreeya,

Well said and also Ozgur is weighing everybody in his own scale. that is why his mentality cannot reach beyond US$ 2000 (may be that itself is too much for him) it shows what he is worth!

Ozgur you asked for it!

You people are not even in the list, It means you are not even earning 2000$?
