Inappropriate dress
It seems many nationalities here are forgetting they are in a Muslim country and being disrespectful and the authorities are dealing with it. If you don't want to be humiliated in public I suggest you dress more appropriately. I was told by a friend she was waiting for a flight in the airport lounge and a British Lady was wearing a skirt that was see through, the authorities were watching her at one point she ended up in her husbands lap and he fondled her breast in public, someone came up to them with a badge and took them away. I think its time companies retrain their employees about a dress code. We don't want the govt. coming down on all of us for the stupidity of a few. Where are their brains? But I see many ladies these days not wearing proper under garments and its just cheap and gross.
Thanks for your comments . Points noted. I aplologize if my posts digressed into Malaysian games and into spelling mistakes of one particular person yesterday. I wasn't my intention to be so petty in the first place. Unfortunaley, I was harassed and provoked by this guy for no reason. (Please read the early part of this thread as I was one of the first to respond to it).
I am still thinking about what made him come at me with guns blazing and at full throttle. I ignored his first couple of insults towards my countrywomen and then I queried him when he went into the topic about Malaysian sports just to irritate me further. Anyway, to all my QL friends, please accept my apology.
Now, back to this thread: Yes, I come from a predominantly Muslim country. Whether we are a Muslim country or not, acceptance and ethics are dictated by the social norms of that country/locality. These norms are then promogulated into laws of that country on the foundations of morality. Therefore, what is acceptable in one country or locality may be taboo in another. As long as we are sensitive to the laws and customs of that country/locality, we should be alright I suppose. I belive in this: "If we are different or do things differently, it doesn't necesssarily mean we are wrong."
Aisha-Taweela......... well said.
"But displaying all your intimate wear or goods for anybody to see does not seem to me that you are looking for respect nor does it seem to me that you have a lot of respect for your self. "
What a strange illusion it is to suppose that beauty is goodness.
~Tolstoy~
Oh wow, your best pal is here to back you up now - you must be jumping up and down with joy...have fun Alexa :p
and
HAVE MORE RESPECT FOR PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!! TRY IT!!
I agree that people should respect that we live in a moslim country and that the dress code for the moslims is very strict. This is also my dress code, which I CHOSE when I became a moslim.
Everybody is allowed to wear what they want, but respect is something that needs to be earned. Dressing like a hooker wont get you respect. It will get you lots of looks. If that is what you are after, you got it.
But displaying all your intimate wear or goods for anybody to see does not seem to me that you are looking for respect nor does it seem to me that you have a lot of respect for your self.
Here, the locals or rather said all Arabs, no matter which nationality, think that if you wear provocative clothes you are asking for something else. Even my daughter, who has grown up here says when she sees someone who is dressed provocatively: "How much?"
Why, cos this is what her friends (male & female alike) say. And why do they say that. Logic. You, in their eyes, are trying to sell something.
Now is this how you want to be regarded?
Have more respect for the country & culture you have come to live in, work and earn your bread in.
Also I would appreciate it if when we start a thread, we all stick to the thread and not go off blaming he said/ she said. Nor go off on the exact details of whatever else like the Malaysian games or whatever it is.
Maybe we should ask Qatari for a direct thread, like joined converstation type, where those of us who want to send private pm's, accusations and whatever else to each other. And let those of us who are interested in sharing ideas, comments on the thread, do that.
Another point. Stop correcting eachother's typing errors or language mistakes. We all make mistakes.
Let's try to make our world a better place! There is enough trouble out there without adding to it. And remember nobody is perfect.
.

I can honestly say that I've never noticed that with Alexa!IMO her replies are extremely diplomatic!
Oh really, I can fish out the threads where you attack and pick on people....give me a few days though, will take me a while to go through the trash...Oh and you have made fun of people's grammer!!
Catch ya then
Hmm incase nobody noticed Eve was blaming the fact that women are raped and harrassed on the way they dress. So whatever you guys want to say about me not taking the thread seriously, etc, have at it, I don't blame rape and harrassment on the way people dress.
Visit www.qatarhappening.com
"high on the social chain on QL"...what exactly does that mean?
The way you pick on people and then wait for your little clique to back you up- when you judge others as if you have more of a rigt to be on here then they do.
What are you still in this thread gal? Shouldn’t you be off
in another thread picking on someone’s grammer or lack of English skills?
That's what you do best, picking on others!
To Charansoi........
* If you are really from Thailand, just be glad and thank to who ever you pray to.....that you are here in Qatar and NOT plying the world's oldest and greatest profession back in Thailand.
Charansoi...your profile states that you a female from Thailand. Now I really wonder if you are female or a shemale. Cummon Chanransoi do not run people down. Why are you peeping on the women of Kedah panties??? You do not use one????
Look I am a Malaysian who have worked in Thailand for three years there prior to me moving over to Qatar. SO do not run down on other national's dress code or whatsoever. And about Soccer or Football as they call it in Malaysia....do not comment if you really do not know the fact. If you are really from Thailand, just be glad and thank to who ever you pray to.....that you are here in Qatar and plying the world's oldest and greatest profession back in Thailand.
The Bull now sits!
Oh and Alexa, swissgirl and Qatarisun are the sweetest and nicest
members on QL – go figure that only YOU have a problem with them.
Say’s it all really about your character.
You really must be bored today like me Alexa, otherwise you
would have stopped with this childish banter a few posts back.
Keep going if you will, I’m enjoying myself!! Are you?
I know it’s hard coming from someone so high in the social chain on QL –try to have
just a little more respect for other members on here. (Excluding me of course.)
Are you able to do that? Or is that too much to ask with your social status and
all?
Alexa i don't know too well but she strikes me as a lovely person. Gypo I think the world of.
With regards to dress - it is prudent and polite to dress without 'it all hanging out' like Tweety i like dressing modestly. But I have noticed things relaxing in Qatar recently. I actually wore shorts for the first time last week!
Let me state this clearly...what you wear does not incite rape or attack.
that is in the mind of the perpetrator.
As gypsy rightly states you can get harrassed wearing an abaya.
will you stay on thread please or start another one on sports!
You mean the atmosphere where you sit on your laptop waiting
for someone to post something that you don’t agree with so you can mock, criticise
and gang up on? Come on and admit it.
It is amusing isn’t it Alexa?
Your arrogance is astounding.
Tweetybird – yeah that makes so much sense considering I
haven’t been on QL for nearly 2 months. Always around ha? Think you have me
mistaken with someone else, as I barely post of here Do a search if you don't believe me.
Don’t be embarrassed.
But why one has to look at woman so intensly that he figures out she is not wearing undergarments,
Haha... you never stop to amaze me. You must have gone to You Tube to check the information. and replied my question. Well done my friend.... the only problem is that in 1994, Singapore beat Pahang 4-0 to lift the Malaysia Cup. Not Selangor, my friend. Back to my earlier question... "Where were you?"... And again, stick to cricket please.
And you asked me to check my facts? What about your facts? Your profile says you're a female.... Hmmm... you certainly didn't look "female" nor "Thai" when you were introduced to me during the birthday party recently. Do I need to go further? Remember, as any reader of this thread can see.... DO NOT PROVOKE ANYONE like you did towards me earlier on in this thread. Blame it on yourself. You asked for it.
1921 - 1994
Between 1921 and 1994, the Football Association of Singapore entered a representative side in the Malaysia Cup and the Malaysian League. While this was not the national team per se – and in 1980s and 1990s this team included some foreign players as permitted by Malaysian League rules – many Singapore football fans viewed the Malaysia Cup side as being the national team, and the team's exploits in the Malaysian competitions generally drew much more attention than Singapore's participation in other international tournaments. Up to 1994, Singapore won 24 Malaysia Cup titles and 2 Malaysian League titles.
After winning the Malaysia Cup and league double in 1994, the Football Association of Singapore withdrew from the Malaysian competitions following a dispute with the Football Association of Malaysia over gate receipts, and have not been involved since. Singapore subsequently launched its own professional league, the S.League, in 1996, and also began to put much more focus on the performance of it's national team in international competitions.
Malaysia Cup 1994 Champions - Singapore
Check you tube :) for vedio Clips.
so others will respect you...
what you wear is who you are....
"Be of good courage and HE shall strengthen thine heart..."
Which year was that? Which stadium? What was the score? Which competition was that? Haha... "we Singaporeans"? Wow, you're a Singaporean all of a sudden? Great.... Am I in for more surprises? By the way, it's "Selangor", not "Selengor"..... stick to cricket please.
I was right there supporting Singapore when Singapore won the final agaist Selengor. It was one of the happiest day of my life. I still remember how we taunted you Malaysians after the win.
We run at weekend to JB to spend our poweful dollars to the ENVY of Johorians ;)
I wtached those games in the stadium. And where were you? Stick to your cricket and get YOUR facts right before you provoke others.
Eve,
I think the couple in question were taken away because of the public display of affection but I would also say you are correct in that the woman drew attention to herself with style of dress which may have resulted in her being spotted during her PDA.
Alexa - I choose to dress conservatively as well and am more comfortable in that style of clothing. Of course I see women in less conservative outfits but like you I think its their life - let them live it. Their dress doesn't affect me at all.
What a strange illusion it is to suppose that beauty is goodness.
~Tolstoy~
Wow didn't take long to get your knickers in a twist did it Alexa - stop being nasty to others!!
Bye bye
Is there a way of reporting some of these idiots that make ridiculous comments on QL. They ruin some interesting discussions for all of us.
There are only a handful of people that lower the whole atmosphere on QL.
I agree Renee... some "writers" (if you can call them that) need to get offline until learn how to converse more politely.
You "writers" are an absolute disgrace!
Orang Kedah - Go and check Kedah history (80& 90's) for God sake before picking up spelling mistakes as if English is your mother tounge
How can I ever forget that you're a fan of Fandi? Here's why....
1) His name is Fandi Ahmad, not Fandi Ahmed
2) He never played for Kedah. He played for Kuala Lumpur
3) The spelling M-Leauge is wrong; it should be M-League
4) It was not the M-League Kedah lifted; it was the Malaysia Cup
You really must be a great fan of Fandi Ahmad all right.
hey Guys what going on why simply argue on something which is suppose to be personel, what we were is our choice.....
i don't think that anyone can get in trouble for what they where.....
ppl get in troubel here for their actions.....
and eve as mentioned above the athorities didn't take them away for what they were wearing they were taken away coz they did an inappropriate action in public....
Life is a mystery..... you never know whats next.....
Hey everyone out there think on the issue don't get soooooooooo personal and attack each other, its not personal until you make it personal! Its much more productive to discuss an issue than attack each other, I guess its late in the week for such an issue. Sorry for starting WW2! There are certainly more important things in life!
Hey Renee hows it going?
I was wondering, do you know the definition of irony? As in it's ironic that you accuse other's of living their life on QL yet you yourself are always around to comment on their posts. Hence I find that ironic.
What a strange illusion it is to suppose that beauty is goodness.
~Tolstoy~
Look what we have here.
Gypsy and Alexa (no WE don’t have ego problems) stirring the pot and
causing a scene because they can. There the first to criticise others behaviour
and this is a fine demonstration about the bullying going on from old members.
There are posts in the past where you have BOTH said that
wearing little is inappropriate, don’t believe me, I can fish them out – so this
is proof that your both here to stir the pot.
You girls really need to get a life outside of QL especially
you Alexa. You spend your life on here and it’s not healthy. Go for a walk or a
drive, it will really do you some good. Maybe then you wouldn’t be so cold and
nasty to some of the other members on here.
Before you tell ME to get a life, I’m not the one who spends
my life on here!
You know that I have the utmost respect and affection for you don't you? However, you are a journalist and a good one and I am just about at the end of my tether with your poor use of punctuation. Please take note:
"they sound like Nazis" is correct. They sound like Nazi's is incorrect. Equally, " I like the way Qataris dress" is correct, I like the way Qatari's dress is incorrect.
Capice?
Just call me Tigasin. That's what I'm talking about
OrangKedah - don't forget that I am a Fan of Fandi Ahmed who helped Kedah to lift M-Leauge title twice
Hello - I am not giving Tution on DRESS CODE. I mentioned about the Dress Sense of that Particular Place.
I thought you are a grown up man to understand the difference between the Dress Code and the Dress Sense.
May be there is no Dress Sense in the place where you came from. I can not help you on that
Very timely question. Thanks.

mmm I see where the point is and to some extent I do cringe when I see people wondering around half dressed, but they stick out like a sore thumb and should be aware of it, or made to be aware of it in some cases. Its just common sense to dress appropriately or manners I'm not sure which!
*watches with a bowl of popcorn in her lap*...carry on...this is too amusing
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong -Garfield
are you serious???
"Why do you make it your problem? They get in trouble, it's their problem! "

How about the Married Philippino Couple who went to Jail because the husband kissed his wife in his car.
" apparently a women had her car
damaged they wrote Slut on it due to what she was wearing. In the past
a women was raped in public by a labourer for what she wore and that
was in the days when we had 1/5 of the population of workers. !"
Yes and the answer to these problems is dressing more appropriatly.
Visit www.qatarhappening.com
I am actually trying to protect our dress rights by commenting that a few are wrecking it for the rest of us that don't want to be targeted. The authorities can do anything they want here and often do! Just have to be seen by the wrong person, apparently a women had her car damaged they wrote Slut on it due to what she was wearing. In the past a women was raped in public by a labourer for what she wore and that was in the days when we had 1/5 of the population of workers. !
cheers and peace

Maybe you are right but apparently the women was being followed everywhere she went before the incident took place. I sure would not want to risk my freedom based on clothing.
They weren't dealt with because she was dressed inappropriately they were dealth with because they were making out in public, which is illegal. There is no legalized dress code in Doha.

Wouldn't know why it should be cultural bashing as I have seen every nationality dressing inappropriately? Some just more than others thinking they won't be dealt with.
they should think while dressing
