I considered it as the most representative Indian city.

Fabulous at night time, shocking at day time.

A place where all the extremes are toughing one to other in a strange harmony.

I stayed every time at Hyatt: luxurious place surrounding by one of the most extreme poverty I ever saw.

Like I said always about India: it is not a place to like or to hate. It is a place you accept like it is or not.

Yes Shiv Sena and these dayz Nav Nirman Sena...... do make lot of noise...

Like any local political party does....

As these parties are based and operate in a City which is always on National news . . .

Buggers enjoy lot of Media Coverage...

NMS does more dictatorial activities in Nashik... but no body seems to bother at all for tht....

Its only Mumbai tht makes news.... :)

Anyways.... their activities never affect the normal wrking class.. or the middle class in Mumbai....

the laborers ... skilled and unskilled... yes they are...

But they are ill/mis treated by every political party in the country.... these Sena's are no exceptions ....

'Bhatt's ulta cup Masala tea', reminds me of my office in bombay central and road side vendors selling Idli vada Sambhar takes me to Fountain Area and falooda Ice Cream Kulfi of Kailash Parbat.......Mind blowing guys.

Interesting you mentioned Goa. Another friend, from the USA, was there 3 months ago. That is a resort area and she LOVED it. In fact, she sent me all of her travel and accomodation info and it looks/sounds like heaven.

You're right about Mumbai not being everyone's "cup of tea." I am interested in visiting the spa-like vacation spot of Goa. Perhaps in 2010... ;)

bombay rocks...there's no better way to put it...@ britexpat...you guys may have built the train network in India/Bombay my friend,we just bettered it...the local trains in Bombay have been voted to have better connectivity than any other local train network on the planet,a train pulls into a station somewhere on the network in a shorter time than anywhere on the planet & that includes your underground...which is probably run by Indians anyway, just like we run your heathrow airport,captain/play in your national cricket team, give you your national dish(yes, chicken tikka masala is ours mate),own the most expensive mansion in your country(L.N. Mittal's pad in mayfair or knightsbridge or wherever it is),etc, this list could go on for yonks but i'm sure you catch my drift...so yes reminiscing about the east india company is a good way to look back @ the 'glory days' 'cos they sure as hell ain' coming back...you guys are lucky Indians are genetically passive people, else we'd have taken over old blighty a while ago...

ranishkt - People have answered the helping nature of Mumbaikars...

And about not touching the dead bodies... police investigations are major reason why people do so.

But as of I know.. person who brings a injured victim to hospital shall not be interrogated or bothered by the police or court...

So even tht shall change soon....

About the Tiffin Guyz- They are so accurate.. their system of collecting the tiffins and giving it to the right guy.. is given 6 Sigma.....

Once I asked a fellow on the station to tell me which train will go to so and so place (long time back, so dont remember the place name) and to my surprise he came all the way with me upto that station and before I could even thank him properly he was gone by the return train... though all through when he was with me I was a bit nervous as to why does he come all the way... but it ended with a pleasant surprise and left a mark, which I always remember..

Have been there several times during my college days and after and everytime have found it more and more wonderful... u are never alone even if you are alone when in Mumbai.

But as Ranishkt said...people do avoid situations which are tricky, heard one case when a lady was thrown on the railway tracks and no one bothered for her for quite a long time.. but anyways that is everywhere... people do not want to get caught on the wrong foot trying to extend a helping hand..

I have been to Mumbai couple of times.Thatz the place to be!I shud agree with Ashwin that people in Mumbai are so helpful. You can imagine how worse it cud have been being a Tamilian in Mumbai. But I did not face any difficulty in Mumbai.

When u ask for address, people will guide u in such a way that u will never be lost. Some people go to the extend of coming with u half the way.We were just clean bowled by their helping attitude.

And the taxi drivers , they are so cheap that they charged us only 70 RS from airport to Taj.I am pretty sure in chennai the taxi fellow wud have robbed us for a min of 500Rs(inspite of knowing the language).

Finally , people in Mumbai are very active.

Sandeepkadian: For your kind information,, the place is crowded coz you find more outsiders in mumbai than mumbaians themselves. People from North, South, East & West move to Mumbai dreaming a fortune. Its with jammed traffic coz every major city in the world is the same. I've visited few biggest cities in the world & witnessed the same. Qatar is no less even with mere population of 1.65million.

Haven't resided for long period in Mumbai, but have visited many times. mumbai is a place where you learn to live life with your own spirit. Person who can survive well in mumbai can survive anywhere else in the world. Making money in not easy in mumbai, but everyone is creative in their own ways. People are very smart, active, intelligent & this all makes the life move in high pace.

Its the Financial & business Hub of the Country. I've seen huge buildings & amazing infrastructure in mumbai when Qatar only had GEMCO as a tall building.

Mumnbai is too crowded and too dirty.. People are fine though, love their spirit.. Was there when the train blasts went off, unbelivable solidarity they showed then.. but its just too crowded.. If u use ur own car, stuck in traffic for hours.. Cant always use the train coz clothes get all messed up by the time u get down..

Mumbai - Mumbai is world...

whtever you say about mumbai is which part of Mumbai you have seen.....

Show me any other city... where even a Mercedes and BMW's stop in front of fashion street and bargain for cloths??

where pav bhajji is more sort after and makes more business than Mc D n Subway...

Where people help and go out of the way to help strangers whom they shall not meet later...

Local trains are crowded.. agreed .. but where else do you make frens for life by jus traveling same route...

Where else your life is planned minute by minute....

to catch the fast train of 8 22 else you get a 8 24 slow .......

It is crowded... it is peaceful at places.. it is snobbish...

There is nothing Bollywood about it....

Hrithik Roshan eats dinner on table besides you and no body cares a Shait about it... jus smiles at him if eyes meet... and respect his family or personal time....

Every other city.. its jus the buildings and infrastructure....

Mumbai.. it is we the Mumbaikars who are the city....

truely Amchi Mumbai.... one day shall give back to the city.. best I can... to give me so much...

opportunities, luck, friends, experience.. so much...

Home of Bollywood and a true indicator of India's diversity. I worked there for one year and learnt vital lessons for life. Truly magnificent victorian architecture with a multitude of entertainment and luxury.

A great city indeed.

Life is Beautiful...Indeed!

Great City!! Loving it. Great place to stay a couple of days to party and *sniff* some culture, before moving to Goa, where the real party starts.
