Holiday on 17th, for UAE private sector
DUBAI – The Labour Ministry has declared Thursday, Feb. 17 a public holiday for the private sector in the United Arab Emirates to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammad, state news agency WAM reported.
The government had already declared Feb. 17 a holiday for employees working in ministries and federal bodies.
The prophet’s birthday actually falls on Tuesday, Feb. 15, but the government moved the holiday forward by two days because it falls between two working days.

to celebrate or not to celebrate, it depends on a person, we cant force anyone to stop doing what he likes!!
nomerci, it's just that all days are same for US..and we don't need just THAT DAY to show our love to dear ones..:))
Chill now..
Hmm, what makes people think that those who do celebrate Valentine's day only show love and affection on that particular day? That is a very strange thought!
Of course love and affection is shown EVERY day...but on Valentine's day the love shown everyday gets a special celebration.
See, now you know what Valentine's day is really about.:)
Fathimah, same here..."same pinch" :))
But i do celebrate my baby's birthday though...she is still small and she is fond of cakes, balloons and birthday parties of kids..so can't stop her..
Like I said before I prefer to shower my hubby with love and affection 24/7 and don't need a specific day for that =D
Hey, even i don't celebrate VALENTINES day..I am not a muslim though..
Fathimah, our thoughts get matched in this..:))
Just for the record I don't celebrate birthdays or "Valentines" day...
not all muslims celebrate birthdays....and i even not believe in so called valentine day...
why dubai didn't declare holiday on Valentine's day, double standard!!
whats wrong with the people trying to imposing a country's rule & law upon the other :0
All the people among u (muslims) pray 5 times a day & i m sure u must be celebrating birthdays of ur loved ones & even celebrate valentines days !
Isn`t it a double standard ?
with FATHIMAH,,,this is just a BIDDAT, Prophet (PBUH) never celebrate his birthday so how we celebrate...plz ..GROW UP
"The prophet’s birthday actually falls on Tuesday, Feb. 15, but the government moved the holiday forward by two days because it falls between two working days" Even the Prophet and the noble Sahabah, who's example we are supposed to follow, never celebrated or declared holidays on this day! People today just need an innovated excuse to chill I guess..lol Thank God Qatar is not doing the same..kuddos to them!
Declaring holiday is ok. but what is the meaning if it is moved.....(just need a holiday to sitback home or quiet work)
Is it right to move the holidays based on weekends
The said holiday falls annually in UAE and Qatar does not follow it.
Nope. Never did.
would Qatar also follow on their mark?
