Hi I have just moved to Doha from the UK with my husband. He is working all day so I am alone a lot. Is there any groups of ex pat ladies out here that I could go along to, I would really like to meet some English people!
Apart from the Ramada, there's also the Irish Harp at the Sheraton - it can get too crowded and smoky late evening sometimes, but it's guaranteed to be lively almost any night of the week.
If you're a mum, you could join Doha Mums. It's quite an active group. You can join even if you aren't a mum (I'm not, and I just joined) but I can't yet vouch for how it will be - since most of their activities are centred around the kids.

There's also a Tuesday Ladies Group - http://www.tlgdoha.com/
I could suggest a few places where you could take yourself and a book in the meanwhile, being as I am in much the same situation for the moment :)
Thank you for that. There is a guy at my husbands work that mentioned about the Ramada. Finding it really hard not having all my girl friends around as lived in the same town pretty much all my life back home, meeting new like minded people here is very difficult. There is people at his work but I would like to meet a group of friends here too as we are going to be here for quite a few years I think.
Not sure, but there are definitely a lot of English women living in Doha. You shouldn't have trouble meeting some people. There is a sports bar on the 1st floor at the Ramada Hotel that a lot of English and Scots hangout at. You and your husband would enjoy the atmosphere. Good beer, good food, football...
