Couple of my friends had an accident last week in dubai.
Both broke couple of bones in the accident and are in hospital rt now. The worst thing is that they where drunk.
Does anybody know what is the punishment for drunk and driving in dubai and will there be jail time or a deportation after they get out of the hospital?

Any islamic state would dish out dire consequences for any incident that's alcohol related.

I hear there's a zero tolerance to blood alcohol when driving in qatar. I was told police often wait outside hotels and observe people getting into their vehicles.

I'm thinking random checks happen too.

A driver convicted of DUI or DWI deals with the ticket that was issued. If an individual is convicted of an alcohol offense, the court sends a copy of the conviction to the department, and the proper points are assessed to the individual’s driving record. Similar regulations cover driving or operating certain types of machinery while affected by drinking alcohol or taking other drugs, including, but not limited to prescription drugs. This is a criminal offense in most countries. Convictions do not necessarily involve actual driving of the vehicle.

the punishment depends on how strong relation your sponsor has, if you arrest for DUI.

Good, I hope they are sacked, deported and have their hands chopped off so they can never drive again.....

30 days in Jail at Dubai.Law ends there..

Deportation depends on your sponsor.. Most of them sacks and deports the accused.. some might not.

Every single Qatari I know leaves my house dead drunk and drives home. I haven't experienced any exception to this rule in the last 15 years. And because it's their country I let them do it.

Few yrs back somebody we know did drink and drive. He had an accident, although is not 100 percents his fault. He have 3 days to get out of the country.

Can you imagine trying to sell your car/s, furnitures, and taking your kid/s out from the school and loosing your job just for the sake of saving QR 100 maximum taxi's cost.

Both jail time and deportation, I suspect. It may also depend on whether or not there was property damage and if any one else was injured. I am sorry to hear your freinds were so irresponsible. There are plenty of taxis in Dubai.
