There're so many people out there who desperately need organs.
Today at Hammad Hospital, you can voluntarily sign to donate my organs when you die.
It's nice to know that when you die, you will be giving life to others...
your body is recycled basically.

Ok just tell one thing… If ever I donate my Organ or anything why would you know it? Will it make any difference to me or the person who received it..as you always talk negative about our charity initiatives. you knowing about it or showing evidence to you is not gonna give us any added value to the act!!

So many ideas we discussed here..for example collecting 100 Riyals a month from 20 people and sending it to needy people back home is going on well..not necessary people who are not interested should be informed about it all..

Saudi Arabia has one of the highest percentage of successful organ transplantation in the Gulf Region especially cadaveric organ transplants.

Cadavaric organ transplant increases during summer season and Ramadan. Guess who the donors were? And Why?

Fact is, Arab culture as with many asian countries, believe in burying the body as a whole and without missing pieces... Mostly because of stupid religious superstitions. To educate these people will be a hardwork.

So that is why atheists are important in this part of the world. People like Rip Cord and Thelonius would be a good candidate for organ donors once they became cadavers.

Well said Gyps. It is a personal choice and it is absolutely Voluntary but I dont know why some of us are taking it as an enforced law "ohh how can I do that and bla bla bla". I think they are not aware of the benefits they get after registration. If they know they will run like how they used to do to get a goody bag from exhibition stalls for them and the whole family. http://odc.hamad.qa/en/events/ramadan_campaign/ramadan_campaign.aspx

hmmm...so now that the two intelligent duo of QL agree that organ donations can be done at Hamad while one is alive based on their reasearch (they did find out the links etc.) and assuming they would refuse the goodies that may have been announced, when can we get a confirmation of their registration with details of the parts they intend to donate and when. I guess it can be done immediately so earlier the better. So, when???...:)

P.S.: I have book marked this page and will keep haunting you till I get the confirmation and may be I would even ask one of my buddies to actually witness the hard copy of the registration. And pl. dont give any lame excuses for not doing it, pl.

Three situations when you will be asked to donate your organs:

1. Your life would not be at stake. Kidney, Liver, Pancreas, Skin and Bones. No Shelf life expectancy. This strategy is used to encourage family to donate.

2. You are brain dead but on life support. Kidney, Liver, Pancreas, Skin, Bones, Corneas, Heart, Stomach and Lungs. Only 2 weeks on life support or organs will be too unhealthy for donation. 4 - 6 hours of shelf life (liver, lungs, kidneys and heart) before it becomes unhealthy and un-transplantable.

3. You're dead (less than 6 hours). Corneas and Bones. Forget the rest. Of course they can't ask you if you're dead.

To donate a Kidney ..part of Liver..or Bone marrow..you dont have to die! and Expats can also do it when they are alive and healthy.

But in most cases if its only for our own parents/spouse or children we will do it. Even for them some wont...I know a 62 yr old Mother who refused to give her one kidney to her 30 yr old daughter who is undergoing dialysis every week.

MN true that we dont know when and where we would die. However, keeping the probabilities we all plan our future lives as building a home back home, savings or investments. Same also holds true for the probability of whether an expat would be here or somewhere else (I guess the highest probability would be home country) when it dies. Moreover, the probability of an individual surviving beyond the employable age i.e. say 60 years also needs to be considered. Adding up all the probabilites in normal circumstances I guess most of us expats will not be in Qatar when they are on their death bed. I am not sure if anyone plans based on its death at a particular time as generally it is open ended.

At LLR: I'm not sure about the king himself but yes, majority of cadaveric organ receiver came from expats - laborers.

Road Traffic accidents and fall from high rise building are quite common in KSA. Most of these workers are from poor family back home and couldn't afford to pay for his body to be returned home.

So, the hospitals will usually give them an offer for an amount of money and full expense paid to transport the body back home if the family or anybody who could put a signature on the paper to give consent to them taking the organs out.

Life for an organ receiver . . . . he will die too.

I don't understand the idea, it is narrow minded issue and why will the receiver have to leave to commit more sins or mistakes or show greediness or etc ?????

I think curiosity should be deal with some hard work. If you are interested you can call them and ask. We never know that we will die here or in some other country. Expatriates die in Qatar and Qataris die in foreign countries. Life is a hope and this idea is based on hope as well.

Thanks for sharing Marco.

Once I dont have a job, I wont be able to stay here while I am still alive. How do I donate then if I die in some other part of the world. Would I be flown in by HH at their cost or my marked organs removed and flown in? Seems it may be applicable to nationals only.
