I live by the philosophy that life is what you make of it. Whenever I complained, as a child, that I was bored my Mum would reply "You're not bored...you're boring. Find something to do...make your own fun".

Doha is what you make of it. Are you bored or just boring?

LOL, get a life, there are many places to go, and many things to do, not just because you're really bored means Doha is boring too !

i know its really hot here, to go to a park or something, you can go to a shopping mall, drink coffe, or go hang out with you friends in sealine, or fishing in al-khor, having dinner in some hotel or restaurant, and no its not a dead place, if so then why did you come here to work, study etc.

if you dont like the place here there are many things to do or just simply go back to where you live

for all those saying "it's not the place, it's the people"...the same thing is said to justify every boring town...like someone correctly mentioned earlier, expats are here for the tax-free income & the resultant ability to save a fair amount of money in a fairly short period of time NOT 'cos it's a fun place...another way of saying, this is a boring town...another indicator of a boring town, most people, given the opportunity & the financial means, will try & get out at every given opportunity...ring a bell?...to put it more in perspective...how many people come to Doha for the weekend from neghbouring countries?...as opposed to, how many people go to Dubai or Oman for the weekend,if this town was as much fun as the politically correct people on here claim it is,why would that statistic be the way it is?...

Hey guess what everyone since ive been reading Qatar Living to get ideas in Doha Qatar and i guess this Website Qatar Living, will be my past time entertainment reading all your sentiments,Wasting time when i feel alone and lonely when i get there soon. And i noticed that seeing the same persons here replying to every threads i've read. Why dont you guys set up a GRAND EYE BALL for everyone? Like parteee! Chill only but then i guess it would be better if it will be set in a house or rented place for everyone to enjoy and not too expensive and a potluck!, like there would have singing, loud sounds, drink beer if theres a billiard or pool that would add some entertainment but i think my opinion is only applicable for guys maybe??? I dont know.....Just want to share my ideas with you guys to help that boredom. Anyway i dont have any idea also if my opinion is appropriate to there culture...Though. When i get there soon, maybe my only two bestfriends would be the internet and the computer. WOW! THAT WOULD BE FUN! Im So excited! Cant wait! Yipeee!

Restrictions due to traditions and culture never made a place boring. You always learn to adapt to the change that you chose to make, or else choose the alternative. I've read a lot of 'Im Bored' and 'Qatar is Boring' and similar threads, but that just proves that you are a boring person and no matter what happens, you will remain a boring person to yourself and for sure to others.

As many people said, if you don't like the place, then leave. I second that. I think you don't deserve the money you are earning if you will whine, moan and complain all the time.

Like the place so it likes you back, its simple.

there are a lot of things to do.. as a matter of fact, i never have time for all what i'd like to do, partly due to my addiction to QL (lately working hard on getting rid of it though!) As baldrick said, get hobby or two! but again, it's up to your personality... if you never have had any hobbies, if you have never been involved in any activities such as Gym, dancing, clubs, some social groups, for me it means YOU ARE a borring person, not the surrounding environment. I never feel bored, no matter whether I am with 20-40 people around, or i am alone.. sometimes you might feel lonely and bored even in a huge crowd, it all depends on yourself, nobody else...

and even if you used to have some hobby which is impossible to practice here, no problem, this is a good time for trying something NEW!

a person coming from a heavily populated country or a place where people are walking around all over the place, it is truly boring to see deserted streets.

and also the fact that when you take out your vehicle here from the parking, you know your destination.

But if it was any other place you would probably meet a friend and change plans and could even fly out of the place to a destination you would never had thought while leaving home.

in the first place what's your idea of fun? Nope, it's not the same as everybody's.

Does it involve some physical thing which gives you an adrenaline rush? This place has it's own unique features and that's the fun part of it- discovering that!

What about books? Try to discover its pleasures. For me nothing beats it. Besides, it keeps away alzheimers.

But you're not exactly in the dark side of the moon. Venture out and seek what is out there! Note my tag line! :)

ok, lets be honest about this recurrent obsessive issue:

I haven’t heard of anyone coming here because Doha is exciting. Good money and no taxes is the major attraction for most, period.

Can one have a good social life in Doha? Yes

Is a positive attitude helpful? Yes, positive attitude can help you through almost any shit for that matter

Having a happy social life and sporting a positive attitude can change reality? No

Now to the original question: is Doha one of the most boring places ever? Probably not but I suspect expatriates would not spend as much time on QL if they had so many more exciting alternative options to fill their free time.

Have fun everybody!

like i said tinay, groups & social activities don't make a town any less boring, this is a public forum in a boring town, but obviously, people are going to moan about the fact that it's boring,it'd be surprising if they didn't...& it isn't so much about the spending, going out here actually costs more than it would in Dubai because one's options are so limited,in Dubai, one is so spoiled for choice that one can find soething to suit any pocket? so wouldn't that be nice here? if one could go to a nice place, that isn't always overcrowded 'cos there are so many other places to go,& not end up burning a hole in the wallet?...possible in Dubai, not possible here...isn't the QL forum about opinions of the residents of Qatar?...well,here's the overwhelming honest opinion:- BORING...

this issue has been discussed quite a few times in different forms on this forum...there must be a reason for it...just got back from a weekend in Dubai...ok ok before you people start, let me make it easy for you,"then go live in Dubai,Dubai is not Doha, don't compare Dubai to Doha, why did you come back?,should've just stayed in Dubai,blahblahblah"...apologies if i left anything out...Qatar used to be a part of the UAE,Dubai is a middle eastern emirate/state like Qatar, they're both part of the GCC,geographically next to each other, are just some of the reasons i'm comparing ok people?...the biggest difference for me is how much more REAL Dubai is compared to this town...that just sums it up,it's more real people, can't help but feel that everytime i go there & it's such a refreshing feeling...there is something for EVERYBODY unlike here where there isn't much & most of what's there is only affordable to white expats on all expense paid expat packages, not true in Dubai, there literally is something catering to EVERY strata of society, that is the singular reason Doha will never be like Dubai or even close, the lack of reality in this town...it's more like a no: of big bubbles here & everyone exists(you call this living??) within their bubble, there is hardly any interaction if any outside of one's bubble & that's how the powers that be like it,it's their country,so they make the rules & we outsiders follow, fine no problem, just replying to the thread which said discuss...
