If Apple are exclusively releasing it in the Gulf in Qatar, guess what? It means it works in Qatar.

I advise waiting til March next year when Vodafone will be able to sell you a fully functional one - and likely with bundled data as well in your call plan.

I have heard that Apple plan to seriously enforce the locked phone issue (which they chose to ignore politely with the old iPhone).

I can't say how much it will cost but likely above $200 - however, probably not much more. I'd bet it'll be a cute 999QR or something. But if you buy the locked American version now, you might end up losing out.

Just hold off. You can do it!

AT&T Sets 3G iPhone Pricing

By Jennifer Lawinski, ChannelWeb 1:24 PM EDT Tue. Jul. 01, 2008

The 8-GB 3G iPhone will only cost customers $199 if they sign up for a two-year contract, AT&T (NYSE:T) said Tuesday.

AT&T also revealed voice and data plans and what customers need to do to be "iReady" when Apple's 3G second-generation iPhone hits the streets July 11.

"We can't wait to offer iPhone 3G to our customers, and we want to make sure the buying process is as easy as possible," said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T's wireless unit, in a statement. "Considering all the great new features of iPhone 3G, we think our pricing and monthly plans present a tremendous value for consumers and businesses alike."

The 3G iPhone's 8-GB model will sell for $199 with a two-year contract to new customers and current iPhone owners, but existing AT&T customers who are not eligible for upgrade discounts will be charged $399 for the same device.

New customers, current iPhone owners and those eligible for upgrade discounts can get the 16-GB 3G iPhone for $399. AT&T customers who aren't eligible for upgrade discounts will have to shell out $499 for the 16-GB model.

In the future, AT&T said it will offer a contract-free iPhone option for $599 for the 8-GB and $699 for the 16-GB.

AT&T said it determines eligibility on the length of time remaining on a customer's current contract and payment history. Current customers upgrading to the 3G iPhone will be charged an $18 upgrade fee, and new customers will pay AT&T's standard $36 activation fee.

AT&T iPhone customers can choose between the company's various AT&T Nation plans combining voice and unlimited data transfer. The cheapest, with 450 anytime minutes and 5,000 night and weekend minutes, costs $69.99 per month. The unlimited plan costs $129.99 monthly. All include visual voice-mail and nationwide long distance and roaming.

To your question When the 3G will be unlocked. When it is released on the 11Th July(for all markets), the guy's unlocking the previous version iphone has to start looking at it, it might take a few days- but it can also take weeks before they are able to do a proper unlock of the software. Only time will tell since no one knows the differences between firmware 1.1.4 and 2.0

You misunderstand, Iphone 3G version will be locked to a service provider, in the US this is AT&T, if you remove that Sim Card it will NOT work(here or anywhere else) as it is locked, then to be able to use it you have to unlock it.

For the old Iphone with firmware 1.1.4, you can do that yourself using a program called Ziphone which you donwload for free.

i think July 7th..

.

so the older versions of Firmware is unlocked..?!?!

by who..?!?!

& when do u think they gonna unlock the new 2.0 one..?!?!

..

by unlockin the iPhone u mean (CRACK) like a software crack..?!?!

Have it unlocked first then make sure there are no tie-ups with a telecom company. In the end it's not $200..

And do some research on the iphone, I was meant to buy one but I've changed my mind. I'm gonna get the new Samsung SGH-i780 or SE W960i instead.

Once you get the iphone (it'll be out July 11) let me know how it is. :)

Firmware 2.0 is the version of the software in the new phone, the old versions used up to version 1.1.4. Yes if he buys it in the states he has to activate the subscription there so it will cost you $200 + 1 year subscription to get it.

When he comes here it will only work with the AT&T Sim Card until someone has managed to unlock firmware 2.0(which will happen)

By master_mas• 1 Jul 2008 20:55

maan,

what is Firmware 2.0..?!

u mean if he buys the iPhone, he has to activate it in USA..? in the shop..?

or activates the 3G only in the shop..?

& then what will happen when he brings it here..?!?!?!?!?

..

how about buyin a boxed phone & bring it to Qatar..?!

remember, it's not released yet and there is no unlock for firmware 2.0 YET. And in the States you will have to pay for the subscription as well, not like previous model where you bought the phone in the shop and activated it at home. The 3G phone subscription will have to be activated in shop. So your $200 will be a lot more :)
