Do all banks suck like QNB in Doha?

Last year when I arrived to Qatar, I opened an account in QNB-Islami, simply because my company was registered with this bank.

I ordered an ATM card and they told me it would need around two to three weeks to arrive. After checking with them numerous times, I asked to meet the manager to complain, but they told me he was too busy!
I began to raise my voice to draw attention, and when they checked it out, they found that some paper work was not done well because a trainee did them! They finally handed me the ATM Card after two months!

Then, for months I tried to get an internet card, but they told me I have to have a credit card to order an internet card, so I applied to one. They refused saying that my company was no longer registered with them. After a while, I met someone who had applied to a credit card by opening a limit deposit account to the card.
When I asked QNB, they said it can be done!
I asked why didn't they tell me before, they said I didn't ask!
How the hell would I know?

Anyway, I opened a credit deposit for a limit of 6,000QAR.
They took an extra 3000QAR (50%) as a guarantee policy and told me I would receive my credit card after 5 working days.
Again, after continuously checking back with them and after three weeks, they tell me that I forgot to sign a form!
I said: NO, YOU FORGOT TO TELL ME TO SIGN IT!
Finally, they told me I would get my card through Q-Post within two days, but again, they are lying!

Are all banks in Doha like QNB?

In other countries, you would have banks kissing up for you to get you to open an account and get your services ASAP...

I have been banking with CBQ since 11 year's now, continued banking with them from lack of choice, but now i have decided to stick with them as their level of customer service, services offered and the agents over the phone have improved drastically over the last year, I am actually quite impressed with them especially after hearing the horror stories of my friends who have accounts in other banks.

Most of the banks wouldn't give you the service you expect from them. I hope this improves.

Qatariana no bank across the world provides any service for free. Just that in rest of the world banks are consumer-centric, In gulf they are not.

One funny thing I remember now is when I asked the employee if I wanted to increase the credit card limit, what would the procedures be?

He said: you might not be allowed to increase your credit card limit at all!

I said: why is that?

He replied: we can't just increase a credit limit because you want to! We have to see how you commit to your due credit...

I began laughing and said to him: BUT I AM SPENDING FROM MY DEPOSITED MONEY, YOU DON'T RUN A SINGLE RISK! MOREOVER, YOU ARE KEEPING 50% OF WHATEVER LIMIT JUST AS A SAFETY GUARANTEE AND I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY?!

He simply answered: it is a guarantee just in case you spend all the limit and the money exchange rate increases all of a sudden...

Can you believe these people?!

50% Guarantee in case of exchange rates increasing!!!

I've never seen any exchange rate for a currency increase 50% in my entire life, have you?

...we want services for what we 'pay'. Banks have an obligation to the customers they charge. :)

Welcome. I can tell you the story how I called QNB one day to inquire status on my credit card. What I got was a girl who was obviously not interested in assisting as she was eating her lunch over the phone as she was talking to me. It is amusing when the paper comes out with these best bank awards won in the Middle East.

are any truly deserving?

Almost all of them are same; only the ways are different.

How do you think they post millions of Riyal Q-1, Q-2.... profits in this recession period also???

Well, I guess if they are all the same, I've joined the league of extraordinary pissed off clients!

And I thought banks in Jordan were not so good!

They are heaven compared to here!

There, ATM and Credit Cards took 3 days or less to be issued!

And I could charge an internet card with the amount I wanted if I didn't want to take any credit. If the amount was above a certain limit, they would provide you with an additional extra safety option, by requesting an additional verification code sent to your mobile number at the moment of purchase...

I guess it will take them ages here to reach that level!

I dont understand why the Internet card has to be linked to CC?

We can do online transfers from one account to another and all such shiit but they cant top-up a simple (smart) Internet card....neither can they let the Internet card check if there is sufficient amount in your account before making the payment?

Previously they had top up facility which I had used....now they want to link it to Credit Card ....why?

You asked - "Do all banks suck like QNB in Doha?"

My response - No, some swallow. Banks like HsBc are known to have gone a step further in their quest to serve their customers. They not only 'keep' your money safe;sometimes they don't 'return' it. And they back it up with fuzzy logic.lol

just wait till you have a cheque, say from a non-QNB bank, that you wish to cash at a QNB bank. Good luck.

And don't try to cash it on a weekend. They don't cash cheques on the weekend because they can't print a receipt.

It became such a nightmare I finally started yelling at the manager - which for me is completely out of character. I could not believe that the QNB did not want me to deposit money in my account - a bank that doesn't want my money seems unbelievable.

Sigh.
