Death of Common Sense‏

As received....

An Obituary printed in the London Times

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, *Common Sense*, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;

- Why the early bird gets the worm;

- Life isn't always fair;

- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

I Know My Rights :(

I Want It Now :(

Someone Else Is To Blame :(

I'm A Victim :(

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone !

Common Sense will never die, as long as sensible people are alive. Vital signs are evident, resuscitate.

rishimba, You are completely right. He was double wrong. Salaries in the UK are higher but not high. After tax they are left with pennies.

a question to all here...as we are talking about salaries etc..

once i had an argument with a brit colleague of mine in UAE who was having the same position and work responsibilities as mine but his salary was about two times of mine.

i said that people having the same position and responsibilities should come under the same scale whatever be their nationality..

he said that westerners should get more as back home indians convert this salary to quite a good amount compared to their salaries in india but brits cant do this in UK as the salaries in UK are much better.

he had a point there...but my logic was also not incorrect.

who is right?

Alumnar, I completely understand. My comments were not personal at all and I know yours were not too..

I am not that serious even when I sound very serious. On other thread when I refer to 'Westerners', it is to make a point. Majority of my best friends are Westerners and I simply love them.

You too have a good day.

... and it went from bad to worse!!

Don't take everything as if it is a personal attack. I am not attacking you, just trying to lighten the mood.

Have a good rest of the day :)

I tried this.. And while reading I observed that sanity did not return on this forum.

Why don't you go on reading mode and we observe if the circus terminates!!

I posted the same thread a while back http://www.qatarliving.com/node/942982 and some Qlers jumpled on me saying it was posted before. But then so what?? no one can claim that everyone had read it or that no one ever wanted to read it again.

fanonite, It was quite expected that a few people would behave this way. There are always some people who do not want to discuss things in a respectable and rational way. I have often observed that a person is violently opposing something on one thread which he supported over-enthusiastically in another thread.

Most people take serious issues for fun as they do not affect them.

i am picking on those whose argument started with

* you are paid according to your qualification

when proven wrong it changed to

*you guys are jealous of our lifestyle

and after proven wrong again, it changed to

*you guys are whiners

a vulgar display of human selfishness.. well,what to expect from the newly rich!!!

i saw the butchering of common sense in the thread about salary scales lastninght. the problem with the expired common sense ppl is that even if they read this post they wouldn't get the meaning..one needs common sense to understand a satire, right?
