Clubs require membership from Feb 2009??

janeyjaney
By janeyjaney

Hey everyone!

So, I just got a message from Global Djs-Qatar through FB and here's what it said:

Dear all..

Due to changes in local law, all nightclubs will be issuing memberships to people who want to enter. If you do not have this, you cannot enter any nightclub, this will come into affect as of Feb 1st 2009.

So, if you would like to continue to see all your favourite locals DJs etc, best be quick and get your memberships sorted out so you can enter the clubs...

Thanks

Does anyone have any information on this? Membership? As in a clubbing membership for all clubs? Wow, as if there are lots of clubs to choose from.

If you have any details on this, please let us know!

Verifications please!

Thanks.

Honestly I could care less if all the so called "nightclubs" in Doha were bulldozed overnight. I'm just waiting for the Qatar-Bahrain "friendship bridge" to be done. Hurry up COWI, these airfares are hurting my savings.

This is true, however it won't be enforced until March. The deal will be that people have to pay 25Qr and provide your Qatari ID and two passport photos in order to get a club membership. Club membership entitles you to free entry and free entry for 1 other person. However this is only for Nightclubs like the Qube, nowhere else is effected.

they don't even have decent clubs to impose such a rule

well this means Dubai everytime I feel like clubbing, which is the case anyway :p

But for someone who goes clubbing here once a month or even two months, why on earth would you get a card for that

Fromt What Irrysa just said, i would assume there is oging to be a membership for every single club. I.E. you would have to walk around with a special wallet just for the club membership cz ur gonna have around 10 - 15 just in case u decide to go there on a spur of the moment. and if each membership will be btw 25 - 50 qr u should expect to pay something btw 500 - 750 QR, lets hope its not a monthly renewable fee :D

and if there is any beach party or whatever once in a blue moon event... u can start to cry.. :D

This is ridiculous seriously.

To be fair, this is all still speculation. Obviously something's behind it for Global to have sent the email in the first place, and it seems other people have heard things too. But we've no idea what places are going to be covered. If it's just the few nightclubs in Qatar it wont be too much hassle, considering more than half aren't worth going to in the first place.

i've got infor from Qube, that their membership is only 25QR.

so, not that bad.

u need:

-2 passport size photos;

-copy of ur RP

-membership fee of 25QR

-filled application

and, of course, u need to be over 21!

If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.

Assuming all this is true, is it basically a roundabout way of saying that the local Muslims, and in particular Qataris, aren't in fact very Muslim at all? I've seen first hand how they behave of an afternoon in the Ramada bar, and they certainly know how to drink... they just don't know how to stop!

If Global Djs sent us an email about the new law for memberships and since the Djs perform most of their time in Qube then membership card is for them(qube)...but in an other way it includes all the nightclubs which are;

Pearl(u already have to be a member to enter)

Admiral

Garveys

And i guess they did this law to identify who's entering the clubs, who is consuming alcohols for later when there's a fight they will directly know who started it!!

It depends what they define as a nightclub I guess. Off the top of my head; Pearl, Cube, Diplomatic Tent. Then there are others that hold club nights every now and then.

But hen you could easily define Palomos as a nightclub - it has a bar and live music, as well as many of the other bars.

Additional info (heard from a very reliable source a week back or so): I know for sure a certain hotel has received a memo to introduce this rule with effect from 1st Feb 09. There's a lot of confusion around this as the hotel doesn't know if all the clubs have been advised to do so or not. Apparently this has been brought into effect due to the fact that a lot of Qatari women found clubbing in western clothes during DJ events.

Hence, they've been asked to totally do away with DJ events and introduce membership as well to keep a track of people who enter the club.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Garvey's patrons are members, and the place got closed down anyway(has it re-opened?).

And now they want to put membership in place in other venues?

I'm actually quite looking forward to this. I can think of nothing that will be more entertaining than just standing outside a Global DJs event watching people without membership arguing, fighting and bribing their way in. It will be hilarious.

If anything, such a scheme will, in my view, create more problems AT venues, and will lead to more drinking and partying in unregulated venues, like my living room for instance.

Rather than going out, people will be forced to get wasted at home since you can't really plan a night out to a venue unless all your friends have the appropriate membership.

Interesting. So what do they class as a nightclub? Surely some hotel bars could fall into that category. And is it one card for all clubs, or separate ones for each? If it's separate ones that means a whopping 3 or 4 extra cards in your wallet! And are they charging for membership? And I bet they'll take loads of personal details when you apply for it.
