Christian marriage in Doha
Hi, My fiance and I are looking to get married in a Christian church in Doha. It doesn't exactly have to be in a 'Church', as i'm aware there aren't any yet. I was wondering if anyone knows somebody (an officiant, minister, pastor, etc.) who can marry us. I've tried the Catholic church, but they seem to have a lot of restrictions.
Your help would be much appreciated.
Can i please get more information about this registry office? like phone number or where is located? I need to get information on how to get married. Thank you very much!
you can try to contact me I know some pepole in the coptic charch

You're killing me here. I have another 55 mins to go...
When we are born, our mothers get the compliments and the flowers.
When we are married, our brides get the presents and the publicity.
When we die, our widows get the life insurance.
What do women want to be liberated from?
The average man's life consists of :
Twenty years of having his mother ask him where he is going,
Forty years of having his wife ask the same question;
and at the end, the mourners wondering too.
Are you trying to get me fired?
A Man was walking down a street when he heard a voice from behind, "If
you take one more step, a brick will fall down on your head and kill you."
The man stopped and a big brick fell right in front of him. The man was astonished.
He went on, and after a while he was going to cross the road. Once again
the voice shouted, "Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step a car will
run over you, and you will die." The man did as he was instructed, just as
a car came careening around the corner, barely missing him.
The man asked. "Who are you?"
"I am your guardian angel," the voice answered.
"Oh, yeah?" the man asked "And where the hell were you when I got
married?"
t_coffee, that was funny! It's not very easy reading a joke and having to keep a straight face at the same time at work.
Everyone in the wedding ceremony was watching the radiant bride as her
father escorted her down the aisle to give away to the groom.
They reached the altar and the waiting groom; the bride kissed her
father and placed some thing in his hand.
Everyone in the room was wondering what was given to the father by the bride.
The father could feel the suspense in the air and all eyes were on him to
divulge the secret and say something.
So he announced "Ladies and Gentlemen today is the luckiest day of my
life." Then he raised his hands with what his daughter gave him and
continued, "My daughter finally, finally returned my credit card to me."
The whole audience including priest started laughing.... ...... but not
the poor groom
the Catholic Church here wouldn't perform the marriage ceremony because perhaps you aren't Catholics. Can't see any other reason why they would refuse apart from, as mentioned, one or both of the parties is a divorcee. And even then I think special dispensation can be made but that all takes time and effort and may be ultimately refused anyway lol
Ho hum.
I thought there was some land allotted to Churches (general denominations) here in Doha and that building was started during 2006.
Somewhere there is a thread in QL which mentions where the churches (or accommodation for services) are. Maybe google it.
Hey Cardinal, where are you?A marriage is waiting you!!!!

Congrats on your engagement, but I'm sorry for the logistical ordeal it must be to try to have a Christian marriage in Doha... Since Qatar doesn't "recognize" most of the churches here, there aren't too many pastors around. Maybe the Episcopal church? I know they have a priest. (I'm not sure if they would do it, just a guess, I think their # is in the Marhaba)...
Anyway, one thing you want to consider, is the laws of your own country. A friend of mine had a problem being married here because she didn't follow the rules of her own country and they actually didn't recognize the marriage (which became a problem when she and her husband had a baby here and wanted to get him a passport, but that's an other story!)... So, I would suggest calling your embassy and finding out what requirements they have for your marriage to be recognized in your own country. Since I see you are from Canada, I imagine it won't be a huge problem, but best to check just in case.
churches should loosen up a bit if they want devotees to remain so...why should they make the life of the poor couple so hard when they are doing the "correct" thing (from christian point of view of course) wouldn't it be better than pushing them to live in adultry(again from a christian point of view) ...
So sorry to hear that
t_coffee, Thanks for the numbers. I've already been in touch with them. It's just that we aren't allowed to get married in the Catholic Church.
LOL don't dare mention it to the priest!! However, my Dad's brother (uncle)was a priest and they are not nearly as stiff upper lipped as one may think
to get all the documents n procedures required call The Parish Center on 4425566 / 5801318
Hamlet, I suppose I should have mentioned that to the priest.
Why marry when you can't...consider it a message from god that you should'nt do something foolish as marriege when you can enjoy all the benefits of marriege out of the wed lock (I can't believe I am actually saying that :))))
The catholic church will never accept a divorced man or a divorcee to be married again. In fact I think in Ireland divorce is still not allowed at least not untl recently. This is where the word committment is a lifetime commitment.
They were married first at the registry office. It is of course not exactly the same but finally you can organise the church to your liking just talk with the priest it will not be sanctioned by the church but wedding is wedding. I am sure if you talk to the priest he will let your father walk you down the aisle.
But that won't consider them married and will not be accepted by the Catholic Church..... I think.
This is true they can't marry you and will not marry you but you can still have a mass said for you and you can kneel in front of the alter together. Happend to a friend of mine, however, not in Qatar.
Divorced fiance is a Non-Catholic, but Christian. They require all kinds of documents which are not easy to obtain. The Church has its rules and I respect them, but some I don't understand the purpose for some of them being Catholic myself.
what kind of restrictions (re marriage I guess) does the Catholic Church here have?
Mind is boggling here lol
That was my last day of being wild and fancy free... lol!!!
But thanks for your suggestions, will keep Mauritius in mind for the honeymoon! ;-)
I'm more of a traditional girl... my dad walking me down the aisle, wedding dress, etc.
you can marry underwater there as well... kinda exotic...:-D
why dont you go somewhere romantic like mauritius?
flower behind your ear
pop down to the beach
do the deed
bottle of champagne
all done and dusted and back for buffet lunch and afternoon bingo ... simple
