Bye Qtel welcome Ooredoo

Qtel has changed its name to Ooredoo, which means "I want" in Arabic. There appears to be some strong reactions both ways on the company's new logo. Here's what it looks like. What are your thoughts?

It is great to witness a Re-branding strategy for Qatar Telecom hopefully to repositioning itself and further dominate it's existing markets and take over additional market share from its weak rivalry.

Q-Tel had long history in Qatar, some good and some bad and it is hard to remove the bad history from the minds of people, therefore such complete re-branding, should say to the people i am a new and more powerful than ever, i have strong history and now more powerful features, that my competitor doesn't have. Basically Goodbye Vodafone... :-)

This is an excellent strategy i have to say, HOWEVER looking at the new logo look and feel gosh this does reminds me with another Logo... LIKE BIG TIME

1. The Circle is the main element of Qtel competitor Vodafone.

2. The red & white colors are Vodafone logo Colors.

3. even the way u putting the oo's is so misleading and does represent indirectly vodafone.

This is 100% the fault of the creative agency, the designer appear to be affected allot with Vodafone branding, and this shows at every aspect in the new logo design...

In all cases the re-branding and repositioning is amazing steps that Qtel took, i'm glad to witness such change, and i will be learning allot from this...

let me explain.

Q-tel owns many telecom companies around the world.

of course Qtel in Qatar

Asiacell in Iraq

Indosat in Indonesia

Nawras in Oman

Nedjma in Algeria

Tunisiana in Tunisia

Wataniya in Palestine, Kuwait and Maldives.

..

next step was to brand them under one name so they can become international company like Vodafone, O2 and Orange.

FYI: they all did the same back in the day.

by the end of 2013 OOREDOO will be up and running in full force in 17 different countries around the world.

I like the old Qtel name. Much easier to pronounce. I always find it amusing when an arabic word is translated phonetically into the English alphabet.

The company is launching an international brand....like Vodafone, Orange, SFR, T-Mobile, etc which operate across the globe...the old logo was just too outdated, too localized "Qtel short for Qatar Telecommunications" and basically not fit for international market

I think the name will most commonly be referred to as "RED"....easy word to remember in ANY country, and the color helps too.

...a popular cookie/ biscuit and not a telecomm co. Anyways change is good - I hope there is an improvement in services.

Lot of scope of defacing its billboards, first O to change to B or D to change to P - oorepoo

a user will be in 'red' .. means they have to take loan .. to pay the bills ..

Banker and user will see to it.

The double "O" at both ends of "red" shows it's symmetrical and the red colour of the logo is in line with that.

However, the double "O"s may be open to being dissed as well, thus, what are the innovative ideas to dress up the brand for marketing purposes?

Maybe those double "O"s are "eyes to the world" or something like that.
