Alcohol - What's the process??

BCA
By BCA

Hi,

Can anyone advise on the process for getting the liquor licence to buy alcohol? ie how do we get it, how long will it take etc......not that we're alcoholics, but we've been here five weeks and are just dying for a nice Rum and Coke!!!!

yes jaymaccool.. you can go and have a drink in a club or a pub and have a drink, provided you are not driving. And some clubs you need to go as a couple, otherwise no entrance for single guys...

Times have changed although even when you were there it was possible to buy alcohol with a meal in the Ramada.

If you were there in 83, it was possible to buy beer in the Dukhan Water Sports Centre using vouchers. That was stopped in 1984.

so you can go into a bar/hotel in doha for a couple of beers with no permit or anything else needed?

are you able to drink alcohol in public in Qatar. Ie: are there bars/pubs? or can you only drink at home. When i was living there as a kid, i can remember my parents drinking beer and wine at home. But are you able to go to any pubs? Do you need a permit to buy alcohol?

i was thinking of stopping off for a little holiday in Dukhan where i used to live but i dont wanna go there and not be able to go for a drink. especially since its hot over there.

all the major star hotels have bars n disco with live music those were the days i.e. around 15 yrs back when a botel used to be sold in black for Qr. 200 to 250 and even on feast days for 300 but not any more

Alcohol - what's the process?..... DRINK IT ! LoL

One word of advice: After you've purchased your stock, please make sure you drive straight home with your consignment and leave it there before going out to do other chores.  It is one of the ridiculous conditions here. You must head home right after purchasing the alcohol. You might be followed from QDC and they might check your Liquor Permit and trace your address quite easily.... so, just be extra careful.

Hi all..

So, in short, what needed is RP, letter from sponsor and deposit of QR1,000. No other charges like monthly or yearly licence charges?

Also, from you guys' experience, how willing is it the sponsor to give such letter if it is an government company?

Thanks first!

Had enough of that in Kuwait thanks.

I was trying to get some bottles of meths in the DIY shop yesterday and the guy wouldn't sell me any cos he said I would drink it.

Eventually he gave in and sold me some but I had to ask him for cold ones.

Dammed Monsieur! that has to be force sober treatment.Yes, I know the older we get, the more resistance we build to alcohol. But you could always distilled your own stuff as an option. LOL

I does a little imbibing but within limits now.

The nearest outlet that sells my tipple is a tad over 200k from where I live.

With diesel now up to well over 8QR a litre I don't visit it that often.

Nov, I know you were joking...hic!

Who said that you are an alcoholic? Are you a moderate, daily consumer of distilled spirits?   When the English adults Consume distilled spirits in the UK, They consider it, a form of tradition and a tribute of life. Just like the Irish.

We had bought a bottle of wine in 2006 and it stayed in the fridge until 2007 when my parents visited...and it disappeared.  So, I figured we weren't the heavy drinkers.

Personally, I felt worse when drinking.  I felt I was loosing control of myself.  I'm so glad coffee shops are here.  They are a non-liquor equivalent to bars.  A place where people can hang-out and chat (without the smell).

...although I do like drinking from time to time but usually only with dw (not at parties).

I cancelled mine last summer because I got so upset with them.  I asked to renew my liquor license and they said I needed all these documents.    I blew up at this man and kept cursing him and his silly little rules (in that little office).

I'm going back to drinking fruit juices and milk.

U will also need to fill a form which is available in the QDC office

The letter from your company must state your basic salary very important and depending on your basic salary u will be granted a license on the spot

u will need your RP and letter from your sponsor ( i think!). Then you just go the QDC office take your photo and you get your license.

the amount you allow to spend on the booze monthly would be the percentage of your salary.
