Advice for a newbie

Hello, me and my husband arrived here on Wednesday, he is working on a minimum 3 year contract, we went out on Thursday night for some food and a couple of drinks which seemed to be ok in the restaurant, however when we tried to enter a bar we had to produce I.D, this was fine for me but my husbands Passport has been submitted for R.P processing, and they would not accept a copy. Is this the norm and if so does anybody know of anywhere that will be showing the world cup that he will not need his I.D to enter?
Yes, this has been the norm since one year. I met a couple of American factory workers from Ras Laffan last weekend at the Sheraton. They'd traveled all the way to Doha on their only day off (Thurs night / Friday) just to find out that they could not get in to any pub / bar / club without a passport.
BTW, this is only for the first entry / membership registration. Next time you go you only need to show the membership card.
half the places in souq wakef for starters
Which Establishments are these, beer is not essential but watching the football is lol.
Some of the establishments that do not sell alcohol will show the world cup, but if you want a beer you need your Qatar ID card....
