As more states in the U.S. legalize same-sex marriage, it is easy to forget that in many communities, such as the Islamic one, homosexuality is frowned upon.
The U.S. based Washington Post tells the story of Imam Daayiee Abdullah who is seeking to make a change.
The openly gay African-American convert to Islam quietly helps same-sex Muslim couples marry and keep the secret from their families.
Abdullah led a particularly sensitive marriage ceremony for a Muslim marrying his Quaker partner.

I don't understand sword swallowers either but as long as it does not affect me I couldn't care less. Culturally some socities seperate men and women and give fertile ground for such behaviours to happen and these seem to be the least tolerant!

You said "... u mean other religion allows gayism ?.."

I did not talk at all about other religions and also this was news only because it was referring to so called muslims undergoing gay marriages...had it been other religions then I think it would'nt have been in news.

A person who is gay cant follow Islam and someone who follows Islam cant be gay. Fair enough!

That's why i say religion ,marriage and whole a lot of other sensitive stuff are best kept as personal.

Dear QLers,

This thread is about a man who did something, and the story ended, and he might be happily married now, but guess what it happened and that became a past.

So he just represents himself , Not Africa nor america nor Islam.

What we always do is reading news, stories, and events, and this thread is a part of the news from somewhere in the planet earth, and i think it doesn't refer to any race, religion or nationality.

Some of us is against homosexuality but will see a brave man, some are feeling sick, some are Gays.

So can we calm down and have a respectful, decent discussion.

Dear lamthexx, you talked about marriage being personal choice..in this regard i wanted to state that:

1) If someone wants to marry as per islam then he has to follow the islamic rules...and islam forbids same sex marriages...so islamically it is not permissible nor is it possible...

2) IF it is his personal choice and he is allowed as per the laws of that country then he should not bring islam into picture.

3) If he is staying in country under islamic rule then gay relashionships are punsihable offence

Same sex marriages are haraam in islam, it is one of the most repugnant deeds even amongst the haram deeds. to say that these marriages are frowned upon is an understaement.

To do something haram is wrong and to do something which is one of the biggest haraam is even greater wrong and then to have the shameless audacity to make it look islamic is nothing but to make mockery of Islam and hence I think the people indulging in such marriages and those supporting them are not fit to be called muslim
