Thanks so much, i went thru the video.. it was pretty useful. I am however lookin for a good zoom lens Cam and i have read the reviews of Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38. what's your opinion on this one??
One more question... With which cam did you click this pic :

Yes D3100 has got a new sensor, and I would say if I were you, I would buy it.
btw, I dont know what lenses you were comparing with canon, but canon lenses are more expensive than the Nikon equivalents most of the time. Even the canon cameras are more expensive
You are wrong about Nikon and canon. Nikon had been the leader for a long time in the SLR market .Canon entered the scene later but has also been in the business for considerable amount of time.
Canon and Nikon are equally good, and actually Canon has too many full frame cameras than the Nikon.
Comparing them is like comparing Ferarri and Lambourghini. Both are best and none are second to the other.
The Canon T1i and T2i are mid range DSLRs and D3100 is a beginners model. Having any of these would be enough for a photographer. the Lens is the one that makes the most difference in the picture. Not the model of camera.
I did a purchase On Amazon recently And I was able to find a few vendors who do not charge tax.. I cannot comment on it because I have not been doing it for long online purchasing..
but D3100 is the newest model with a new chip set i suppose. the ratings of D3100 is anytime higher than any other model i am seeing in a beginners SLR unless i opt for the real professional ones which can cost me over 1800 USD minimum.
I am also tied up between Canon EOS Rebel T2i / T1i. They too have real good feedbacks.
Looking overall of course upgrading my lenses in the future when i become a bit good at it, i find canon lenses somewhat cheaper than Nikon.
Nikon seems to be a Professionals Passion while Canon is a normal mans guide to SLR and everyone just puts one comment everywhere .. its soo easy to handle for a beginner. Whats the fun when everything is a piece of cake :P
My heart still is in for Nikon D3100.
Have you purchased online ? I am stuck at a real good deal on the D3100 from B&H costing me roughly 660 USD including shipping to Qatar Direct and avoiding US Taxes unlike Amazon. Where do you get your stuff from ? I shop on Amazon but the Taxes are really pushing up the prices B&H seems to be quite a catch now since they ship to Qatar.
Maverick 2: I have posted a video comparing Both Nikon D3100 and D5000. Please go through that so you will get a better idea
btw: Thanks for your comment on my work ... :)
Maverick 2: Both are good cameras and give excellent results. The D5000 takes over D3100 because it has a swivel LCD and 4 fps continuous shooting speed.
The D3100 is newer and takes over the other because it has 14 megapixels vs 12 mpx. Also it has 3" LCD(not swivel) vs 2.7" in D5000. It also offers slightly better HD video quality than D5000.
These are the main differences and all other features are almost the same.
In my experience I have not seen the D5000 get much attention. The D3100 has grabbed quite a lot of attention and apparently there are too many D3100 than D5000 despite of the first being new. Also I have not heard any complaint of the Latter and I like the results of both.
In my personal view, using the LCD to shoot all the time does not look professional. So Swivel LCD is not an option that appeals to me. Still it is a very useful feature which can help at times
Its your decision to choose either and both cost almost the same. D5000 is bit bigger than the other and looks bit more professional. Thats it.
Whatever you choose, you will not regret. I can guarantee that.

since you are a pro needed your advise for a beginner who wants to step into the world of SLRs.
I am impressed by the Nikon d3100, but i have heard a lot about the D5000 which your blog features.
I haven't gone in detail through your blog yet, but have you tried out other SLR Cameras ? For a beginners point of view what would you suggest a user to look for ? The market is huge and with soo much options need an expert view.
Love your work and all the best !!
