Video : Filipino migrants in Qatar

Interesting report on Filipino workers in Qatar and the financial relationship with the Philippines.

According to the report "Government statistics show that nine million Filipinos work outside the country - about 10 per cent of the population - supporting families back home.

About two million of them work in the Middle East, and now many fear they will lose their jobs as the economic downturn deepens."

Worth watching just for an inside glimpse of a really big church in Qatar!

I hope no one loses their job - especially from the Pino community. I really like Filipinos, they are always so friendly and polite. I wish other expatriate communities were more like them.

Hope no body will lose his job, I believe that things will come back as it was before this recession. Oil price is going up and up... you know it reached the 70 USD limits since 6 months...cheer up..

Thanks much, but those are not minute details, I perceive these as fatal mistakes. Sounds harsh, but I won't mask my opinion.

Let alone the report's theme itself! but maybe intentions are good, that's why I chose to pass on this one..:)

I still wouldn't accept TV professionals representing (their) country, on national TV, wrongly pronounced. A 15-minute instructor-led or online orientation for new hires would solve it.

It would also be an addition for them to be taught the English meaning for important words/names i.e Qatar, Doha and major cities and landmarks'.

Note: yes I studied speech,- phonetics- linguistics and aware that Qatar would be pronounced similar to Radar, until you’ve visited Qatar to discover otherwise..)

In Qatari dialect, Qatar is pronounced "Gitar" (not Gittaar),just to add to the confusion..)

Even Al-jazeera staff pronounces Qatar as Qattaar!

The right pronunciation of "Qatar" almost sounds like "cutter" never ever "Ca-Tarr".

Thanks

home...

The problem with Doha is the TCN can barely get by let alone sending money home...Depending on job of course...

No reason to be here if you can't make n save more than if back home...That's why I am here...

I wonder why al-Jazeera limited research to filipinos!

though there are many expats who face the same issue!

and now filipinos are looked at as poor and to be sympathised with for bad acts they never contributed to!

Should not regulations and how international banks pay aids to such cases instead of bailing out entities guilty for the fanancial crisis!

It is really shocking how decieved people can be and how issues are portrayed!
