Thoughts on basic package?

Hi all, terrific forum and I hope you'll be able to give me some guidance on a job advertised.

I'm single and this is what they are offering.

It seems the basic salary is just over 19kQR + 14kQR allowance for transport and accommodation.

To be added is a furnishing allowance of 30k, an annual return home air ticket, 800qr mobile phone allowance, medical and life insurance, 30 days holiday a year.

Does this seem like a decent package for a single person?

Thanks

Hi all,

Once again thanks for your comments. I've done some calculations and worked out I'll have to transfer about 5000QR a month back to my home country to meet existing commitments here.

Would I be right in thinking that, excluding accommodation costs, it will cost me about another 5000QR in living costs? Therefore I figure that would leave me about 10000QR a month over (living costs and money sent home deducted from basic salary). I would also have the accommodation allowance of about 14000QR to pay for somewhere to live.

So, is my maths correct and can I get somewhere decent for 14k?

It is difficult to tell you if the package is 'good' without knowing what you will do and your qualifications. It is certainly enough that you will survive and save, but how does it compare to what you can make in your home country? A basic rule of thumb is 25% (or more) over what you make at home, if it surpasses that I would take it. You also should do some checking on the tax-free status for your home country, a lot of people are confused between Qatar not taking their income and think they won't be taxed back home.

haris: Yes, sadly that is very common in Qatar to not hear back for weeks or months.

Sounds like a damn good package. Extremely easy to live on and save, especially since you're single. Unless you are some super high qualified person and can get better in your own country, then take it.

... I believe there is also a potential performance-related bonus of 12% of basic salary, some reimbursement of relocation costs and car loan scheme.
