Saving from a 7000QR pm salary??

nrgx87
By nrgx87

Hi all, I am currently planning to move in Qatar as a government teacher.

Package on offer is 7000QR per month. No food, no accommodation aand no transport. Its a 3 year contract, the location is yet to be confirmed but in a government school.

My aim is to save up some money, so could yall help me decide whether its worth the move?

I am a single person, I am not planning to have much fun (So my personal expenses will be the minimum possible), just planning to save up for my higher studies and stuff.

Considering the above, would saving like 3500qr a month be impossible?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks a LOT!

did you read the fine print?

It says this

"the rules state that Qatari employees must receive a basic monthly salary not less than:

QR 6,500 for university graduates (previously QR 3,750)

QR 4,400 for secondary school graduates (previously QR 2,500)

QR 2,500 for employees with less than a secondary school certificate (previously QR 1,500) "

I found this Qatari government website, so its official... 6500qr is the MINIMUM basic salary for a uni graduate.

http://www.english.education.gov.qa/section/audiences/teachers/_scale

So, i will be getting the bare minimum. :/ since its a batch recruitment, no point of demanding.

Hello Korly,

Thanks a bunch for your reply. I did some background checking and both the agents seem pretty much authentic. this is the Qatari agent http://www.al-mahir.net/latest-jobs-listing.html

Anyways, if you happen to know anyone working in a independent school, it would be grate if you could make sure whether they have English medium classes.

Thank you for your time!!

Hold on, you are going into teaching in an independent school? Aren't the subjects in these schools taught in Arabic?

And since when do Arabic Independant schools hire non-arabic speakers?

nrgx87, I suggest you make sure this isn't some kind of con - Most job in Qatar, especially government jobs come with accomodation OR an allowance at least. This doesn't sound right.

Hi,

yes, accommodation is the main issue. Hopefully, I will get to figure something out.

thanks!!!!!

I know many teachers who are getting less than this salary, but they're getting free accommodation and some allowance.

However if you'll manage to arrange a sharing accommodation with your fellows I hope you would be able to save some money.

hi there, thank you for the reply. By the way, a whole batch of about 200 teachers being recruited by these agents. so, i suppose the salaries should be at least some what manageable. this is the agents ad http://www.topjobs.lk/employer/openvacancylist.jsp?jc=0000133025

Two agents, huh? You want the job that badly? Well, come on in, but don't complain about the water once you get here. You seem to understand what you're getting into. Good luck! Yes, you might be able to survive.

People are surviving here lower than what you are going to get and they are still able to save.

It all depends on your lifestyle and if you can share a room with several people.

For some, 7000 is more than what they NEED, and for some, it's just a small portion of what they WANT. In the end, it's a matter of how you spend.

Hi! thanks for the reply. by the way,not just one, there are TWO agents !!!! lol one qatari agent has outsourced to a sri lankan agent. so, i can imagine how 11000 became 7000 ;). thanks for your time!!

nrgx87 No wonder you are only offered 7k because you are coming through an agent. They definitely have their cut. I know someone who works in a government school (they actually call it 'independent school') and the whole package is 11k. Yes, don't expect any increments during the term of your contract.

Thanks for your reply. I am coming through an agent.. that is a huuuuuuge disadvantage on my part i guess. they are like the modern day slave distributors :/ . They say the recruitment is for government schools in qatar. And what really sucks is the fact that its a 3 year contract. so NO INCREMENTS WHAT SO EVER I suppose during the contract time?

Some nationalities are paid extremely unjustified more than the others, so just focus on your own earnings.

You WILL definitley SAVE 4000 QAR / PM.

You are really prepared to work hard. Luck would be on your side, God bless all !!

You would need to spend not more than 3 thousand.

does not have accomodation, also very low teacher wage.

It depends what lifestyle you have, but a friend of mine here earns 20,000 a month. has a a ok lifestyle and they are not saving nothing. if you want somewhere decent to live its going to cost 7,000 at least.

a lot of my former colleague in my old company are earning 5K on the average, with free accommodation and transportation, they are surviving and could save half of their salary to be remitted back home.

And I see them happy most of the times, even drinking twice a week to their heart's desire. So it's just a matter of how you manage to spend your money.

No Way... thats very low, and its true, this country is very expensive...try negotiating a 7000 basic salary with accommodation and transportation provided... but DON'T come with this package... you will regret it BIG TIME!!!!
