Salary for a teacher

I was just wondering what a decent salary would be for an English teacher moving to Doha? If possible can you also tell me how much it would be in pounds because I'm not sure about conversion rates.
Thanks

Hi Charmw, don't bother with the cheeky folk on QL lol...

You should be looking at getting minimum 10,000 QR(£1700) a month tax free. It depends on your experience however and which position you will be taking.

It fully depends on if you are a Native Speaker of English and what country you are from.

Even if you are from the UK, if English is not your first language, your salary will be quite low compared to a Native speaker.

@LincolnPirate, you couldn't pay an Expat 250,000qr a month to teach at a public/independent school. They would never do it...

smoke, nationals who teach at Independent schools start with 25.000 and end up with 44.000 according to their experience. But this applies ONLY to Qataris! Shall we call it 'discrimination'?

LP that would be everyone's decent salary dream :)

A 'decent' salary would be 40.000 Riyals (per month). But you won't get it unless you are Qatari!

But on a serious note, you have to see if the salary being offered to you is worth the move to begin with. Then do a currency conversion on Xe.com :P

If you have not been made a salary offer yet, as you now have a general idea of what the expenses are in Qatar from your previous thread, make a list of it (write it down on paper) put the cost to match and then think of an over all salary you should ask for.

For Example children: Write down;

House rent: 5000 - 8000/-

Weekly Groceries: 500-1000/-

Car Rent/Loan: 2500/-

Eating out/Drinking/Clothes/Entertainment: 2000/-

Add that all up and see what sort of monthly expenditure you are possibly looking at.

You should expect an absolute minimum of QR10 000 (12 000 would be more realistic) per month. Your school will provide accommodation and airfares on top of that.

To convert type "convert 10000 qatari riyals to GBP" in Google.
