salary that should be expected

By one guy living ...

I hope you would help me with this.
I'm living in the UAE and I got offered a job as a relationship manager in corporate and investment banking, in a reputable bank in Doha. However, every body is talking about the increasing cost of living and especially rent. here also rent is very expensive but i'm getting a nice 2 BR in a nice area for AED 10,000. how much would cost a nice 2BR in a nice area in Doha. would it be easy to find because it wasn't easy over here.
they will soon ask me for my expected salary. I'm holding an MBA from an american university and I have a 5 years working experience. how much you think should be the salary knowing that I will be assistant vice president. if that could help my actual salary is AED 20,000.
how much should i get to consider moving to doha?

The face to face interview may just be related to getting a feel for you as a person since you have already gone through the tech stage.

Do not feel pressurised to submit your salary expectations on the spot. You can easily say you will consider it and email them the following day. If they fail to provide an offer at least ask them to supply you with the benefits save the basic salary in order to assist with A. understanding the package and B. being able to submit your expected basic salary.

Should they offer you on the spot the full financial pacakage, I would not give an immediate OK if good but rather email them with a final decision the following day. If the offer is awful express the same and say that you can revert back with your comments on the same the next day after "doing the numbers".

Finally, keep in mind that they may/should have a grading system. This will have set the benefits and salary per grade with a possible plus/minus range for the basic salary. You may find that you can pop that in the conversation if  necessary or  if the chance arises.

Don't jump into the financias immediately. I can't stand doing an interview to feel that the applicant that I may hire rushes through the job aspects giving little passion for that aspect and asks heaps of questions about money. Passion and job talk first, money second... My thoughts anyway.

Goodluck

UPDATE.....

i HAVE BEEN CALLED FOR ONE DAY FINAL INTERVIEW IN DOHA.

What do you think this will be for, as I already had a phone interview where I have been asked a lot of technical questions. and I belive I will have to meet with top management.

what if they ask for my expectation?? honestly I prefer if they make an offer but I doubt they will do that. and I'm afraid that my actual salary which is very low will affect their offer. but don't they consider that I will be moving from one country to the other....

Finding a flat that you are content with might take some searching. Then again, you may strike it lucky. The best thing to do is hook up with a few of the good agents, give them your specifications so they can scout out possible apartments.

Like Abu Dhabi, Doha is not full of choice at the moment due to the current demand. Having said that, their is more choice today than their has been in over a year I believe.

It will be pretty easy for a women to find a job with one of the banks.

I am not certain about the salary versus local and foreign bank to be quite honest. Maybe someone else can assist on this. Don't worry about your wife getting a job. If she has experience, she will find a job.

Torc,

How much would cost a nice two BR in a nice area in Doha and would that be easy to find. the reason why I'm asking is that I had a bad experience here in Abu Dhabi. I wasn't finding any available flat.

do you have any idea about jobs for women, is it easy for a women to find a job in the finance & accounting sector.

Is it true that local banks would offer better package than foreign banks???

No kids, well then no worries their.

Ah ok... the band is pretty normal hear in various sectors. You have to agree to that one.

Rental Law: Yes, we have a newly revised law. Basically, if you enter into a lease sometime soon, the landlord is not permitted to increase the rent until 2010 (unless a new revision of the law comes out then). The rent increase is set by law. The highest a landlord can increase is 10%. It depends on your rental rate but no higher than 10% so no worries there.

A landlord can only take a maximum of 2 months rent deposit as per law so you don't have to agree to anything higher.

I don't have kids yet so I don't have to worry about the school fees for now. for the car, I'm thinking about shipping my car from the uae.

The band, it's a clause that prevent me from working in another financial institution if I leave my actual job. only if I stay at my actual job for at least 2 years.

rent hikes?? in qatar there isn't a low preventing landlord from increasing rent more than a certain percentage in UAE is 5%.

As a relationship manger we receive annual bonus beside salary but this depends on the performance of course.

True Novita....

Doha College is up 15% next school year plus qrs.3,000/- capital charge. New students have to also pay a registration fee and qrs.10,000/- which is only returned when the child leaves....

Tough for many

on top of that ... every year the school fees went up at least 10 percents ... will your salary catching up with the school fees and rent hikes?

Listen, if you are expected to pay housing and school fees out of 30K, you will be left with around Qrs.12,500 after forking out for housing and one school fee (primary) per month. You then have car expenses (min. Qrs.1,500 a month to lease I think), then water/electricity, telephone and food..

You will survive for sure but don't expect to save...

How many kids do you have??

What do you mean by have a "band on your contract"?

Are they giving you annual tickets for the family etc...?

Yes it's inclusive of accomodation. I know it's very low and I did find out when I started looking for a palce to stay. but back home (Nort Africa) it not easy to negociate your contract considering that you have no GCC experience.

having a band on my contract would be of a problem if switching to Qatar?

you mean AED20,000 is inclusive of accommodation? you actually accepted that offer having good qualification (holding an MBA from an american university and I have a 5 years working experience, as you said)?

well i think you should be receiving QR30,000 plus accommodation and transport allowance.

The standard of most flats will not compare to good Dubai flats. I.e finishing, quality of fixtures etc..

You can find a flat for Dhs 10,000/- though.

If you have kids, ensure that school fees to your preferred school are paid as an extra benefit.  Plus the usual perks.

Salary not really sure for the position... go higher, they can only counter offer less.

Do you have any idea about salary range for this type of position in a local bank. and what about the rent? as you could see almost 50% of my salary is going into rent.
