Salary questions from pinoy
hi everyone. i really need advice on a few things and based on other posts, I'm sure you can enlighten me.
-first of all, i read from other posts that there is a big difference between salaries and packages offered to asians and westerners (for valid reasons, probably). How do you suggest i go about this? I am a college grad (BA Communication) with 8 years of work experience, the last 3 of which, i focused on sales, marketing, and customer service. I trust that my skills would land me a job, but as an ASIAN, do you think that asking for 6000 basic (aside from the housing, transpo, etc) would be too much?
-i also noticed that a lot of the posts here asking if the salaries are sufficient are already in high managerial positions. what about those in the entry level or middle management positions? like, how much does a secretary, receptionist, or a clerk receive?
-is there a lot of opportunities in marketing, sales, or customer service in qatar?
- would it be better for me to start applying online from where i am now so i could have a better deal on my package and salary? (coz i read from other posts that they were considered as "local hires" since they're already there, that's why they received a low accomodation allowance, or no accomodation at all! maybe that's what happened to my husband..)
-lastly, for my kababayans, could you pls give me an idea of the packages offered to you when you joined the company? just so i'm already familiar with what i can possibly bargain for. Was kids' tuition ever included?
sorry my post is so long. i just got confused and frustrated when i read the other posts and compared it with what my husband agreed to recently...(2500 with no accomodation! thankfully, he's staying with a friend for now). But he's still looking around since he hasn't signed the contract yet.
please, please. I would greatly appreciate any wisdom/experience you could share with me.
i need an advise plz,am a lebanese fresh graduate engineer i ve got an offer of 8000 QAR grade 8, all inclussive, but transportation medical insurance, and 2 way annual tickets r 4 free,is it a fair offer?
i was planning to devide the sallary as such:
3000QAR 4 room with bathroom attached
3000QAR PERSONAL FEES"intertainment,food,dvd;s,cd's"
saving 2000 QAR/month.
is it okay?
thx
To me the kind of salary you are mentioning is appalling for your experience. That said, you need to be aware that this country is far more concerned with where you come from than with your experience/qualifications. I appreciate that you may be prepared to put up with that if it offers you a better standard of living when you do go home, but it's just something to know.
I feel sad for your husband. It sounds to me like he has a very bad deal. I think the advice about being in your own country to get more money may be more pertinent to Westerners. Perhaps other people from the Philippines can give you better advice about this than me.
If you come, and I understand you want to be with your husband, I hate spending anytime away from mine, you will face prejudice and ignorance. I wish you the very best of luck.
thanks for all your replies, you're all such great help. this forum really taught me a lot on what to do next.
for those who want to add more, please keep them coming. :)
You can verify the status/standing of the recruitment agency on this site:

(before heading to their office)
Good luck!
you can try this site of POEA and maybe you can find job there:)

Your asking of QR6000 salary is fair enough. I'm sure you can get a job here with your credentials stipulated in your CV.
Yes, they're right, rent had been rising since 2005.But as for you and your family of 3 (let's say), somehow you can find room (unfurnished) for around Qr2000+. To budget your income here is the key to have some savings & send some cash back home (pinas).Lifestyle also counts a lot.But I don't think Qatar is that much entertaining to us (Asians),but anyhow,it's really up to you.
Good luck to you & your family.
there are lots of sales, marekting and customer service jobs in qatar...but the two probs you will have to face will be visa restrictions for certain nationalities and also if u r a local recruit tough luck gettin accomodation from the employer...and if u need a family status he should be having a salary more than qr 5000.
its always better off getting recruited from your country and then comin over then u have better chances of havin a good salary and accomodation.
family status simply means that the employee has the right to bring with him a specific number of family members with him "with additinal benefits" to support this. for example, a bachelor status might get 2500 housing allowance while a family status employee gets 5000. furniture allowances, tickets, education and medical.
for rates regarding your specialization, i think other people in the same field are the best to answer that.
all the best!
when you come to Qatar you will need a sort of sponsorship, "family" status usually means your sponsored under your husband (or parents if it were that type of situation), in my opinion this is the most desirable sponsorship because I've heard nightmare tales about companies not releasing sponsorship of their workers and that worker (ie you) would have to leave Qatar because they are unable to obtain sponsorship with another company, i have no idea why a company would do something like that but i've heard of it being done. Being under your husbands sponsorship is a good way of protecting yourself from some of the sponsorship problems i just mentioned.
Maybe another forum member could shed a bit more light on the subject, anybody?
thanks for your reply kofe.
what does it mean when they say that someone is on family status? what would be the advantage of that? should that also be included in the contract?
I'm not the best one to ask about salary but what i can tell you is that you should really strive to have the housing provided in the contract, i find it very hard to believe that 2500 is going to get much if anything for housing. Rent has gone through the roof within the last 2 years or so and would easily absorb the majority of one's paycheck if its not written in your contract.
On the flip side though, if you do manage to get a position that offers an accomadation be sure you find out the specifics about the accomadation such as if its a family accomadation or bachelors accomadation meaning they don't allow the opposite sex to enter and/or to stay past a certain time (real lame if your married!)
and always ALWAYS have everything promised to you written out and signed by both parties, verbal is not enough and often times verbal promises are not upheld.
