Salary Offer Reasonable - what to expect

That's it.. I got an unofficial offer from a large international financial firm.

I then might move to Qatar. Basically the offer is:

USD 100,000 per annum + a bonus up to 50%.

I have asked for the total package, since it should include a relocation package, health, housing and kids education allowance, but they did not come back to me yet.

I will take the offer if I can keep the same level of life as I have here (Europe): a house with garden, 150 m2, a powerful and big car, a house on the mountains for the ski season, kids at private schools, etc...

What could I expect with this package ? Looking at your recent posts, it seems that rental went high... but I hardly could imagine the total expense cost for a family of 4.

-->>> Update. just got an update from them. Basicall total amount granted per annum will be US$ 130,000. Do you think I can have a decent life, comparable to what I get here with EUR 150,000  - 180'000 per annum ?

Once bit of advice: You'll want to negotiate for your employer to pay for housing, a villa in a compound with the number of rooms you need (something like Rivieria Gardens is nice but may not have vacancy). Don't accept a monthly housing allowance. The way that cost are rising here you'll likely be dipping into your monthly salary before you know it. Some folks will tell you "it will be better after the Asian Games," but that's rubbish. Essentially this place is growing so fast that when the Asian Games staff leave the vaccum will be immediately filled by folks arriving. I've heard estimates that even after the Asian Games are over there will be a deficit of 100,000 units to house the anticipated need. So, housing will continue to clime in my view. Best of luck.

Richy, after reading your post. I'll say it's more advisable for you to stay in Europe. You will not get the same kind of lifestyle as compare to there.

So basically you only pay for your food. Well, a chicken biryani cost abt Qr 9 & a can of coke Qr 1. So you do the maths...

ESB is non contributory and is wholly for company account. If you are on some sort of special deal, you may not be entitled to it. I believe that the contract has to specifically mention that there is no ESB.

Summary dismissal would result (in most cases) in denial of the ESB.

Don't expect termination pay if you are fired as some companies will resist payment.

Don't count on a few months on your old salary if it is summary dismissal.

After 15 years, I was released (not summary dismissal) and was asked to be "out" in a week. I was not amused and it took 5 weeks.

I think I just assumed Switzerland there, nonetheless aren't European taxes higher than that usually especially for the higher ratings, im surprised that it doesnt sound like a progressive tax?

i dont think you would be expecting to pay for rent you should be getting everything including.

This is QFCRA right?

I do not know how good the Lycee Francais is in Doha but I doubt it will be anything as good as you will be able to get in Switzerland

is an ESB insurance deducted from your monthly salary ? In your I am fired, what can I expect (to be sent home in the next plane or have a few month with what %age of my previous salary ?)

As well, thank you all for your support and all the important and useful information you are posting in that forum. I am waiting for a final offer, and if so, all you guys are from a great help.

It does make a difference how the package is made up.

Your ESB (End of Service Benefit) is based upon your basic salary.

It may be that the package specifically excludes ESB.

They dont have the taxes here so the pacakage is good! I am from the UK and my pacakage is in excess of 130k per year though I do not have children. I think if your offer included education and housing you would be just fine.

I will make my investigation.. basically let's take it this way all in EURO

- income for EUR 150,000

- all taxes are around 30% (45k)

- housing 30k

- car & gas, leasing etc... 10k

- schools for 2 kids 15k

Net :50,000 EUR, does not include food, etc... at current rate = 63k USD

Qatar:

take an income of USD 130,000:

- tax 0%

- housing 40k

- cars etc: 5k

- schools (Lycee francais) for 2 kids: 7k

Net: 78k USD

It is very difficult for me to evaluate a total net income, and how I can leave... In fact here with 150k EUR I live well, am in a 'high' norm, but nothing special. With 130k USD in Qatar, wouldn't I be better ?

Richy,

I have not understood why would someone leave Europe with a Salary of Euro 150K to join in Qatar at a Salary of $ 130K..

However..its your choice...Do refer to Gulf Times for Info on housing..Click the Classifieds and go through your requirements of housing...Education is expensive..refer to other threads..

Best wishes..

To add to my question, a more general comment:

we offer refer to base salary + housing allowance, etc... But: what about a base salary with no allowance, high enough to cover all costs ?

My question is the following: does it make a difference if you receive $X salary + $Y housing allowance + $Z kids allowance or if you just receive $A as a total amount and bear for all the costs ? When renting a place, you pay anyway from your pocket, right, being the allowance or your own salary money ?
