Salary advice

Hi everyone,

just want to get some advice in terms of salary range. Ive recently being offered to work in qatar with a range of a total salary of around +-21K QAR. I will bring my family to there (married and one daugther).

Does anyone know if we can live decent enough in Qatar? I mean, I can make some savings, and still live pretty decent? My daughter will be in school, so i need to find an international school for her and for now i have not yet received any confirmation about school allowance. Supposed it is not being covered, would it still decent enough to live there?

I am from an ASEAN country, so would that salary decent enough for me? I have around 10years of experience in policy analysis and research.

Oh and also, does anyone have an estimation on monthly costs for a family of three?

PS: have not yet say a final response on this one, If life will be challenging, i will reconsider for joining there,

Thank youu,,,

Stay safe, keep distance, and be patience.

@molten metal Thank you for the welcoming. Still reconsidering the offer, not yet deciding.

Just out of curiosity, how can i save 18K at minimum, if a rented apartment in Q roughly cost QR 5000 alone?

looking forward for more suggestion in managing the living situation there.

Thankss!...

@goodlittleboy thank you.., so basically, with housing+school and household expenses, my monthly cost will be at least around QR 15K?

Im kinda reconsidering the offer, since i housing cost (mortgage, electricity and others) in home still needs to be covered.

But your suggestion to have a second-hand item was a good one. Will probably do that if i receive the offer.

Thankss!...

For a person from an ASEAN (or Asian) country the salary offered is indeed attractive and a good one.

Initially, you will need to land alone and your family can follow later on. After arriving here your first task would be to go for an accommodation. Usually people prefer to stay as close to their work place as possible but this is not a must. The roads of Doha are very good. Traffic is well-behaved and not much of a headache.

You should be able to locate a 2-bedroom apartment for around QR 5000 per month max. You will need to furnish it. Basic furnishing will cost you around QR 6000. Most of the items you can buy second-hand in good condition. There are people leaving Qatar for good and they advertise items for sale. You can find such items at Qatar Living. This will be a one-time expense. Later on, you can sell off the items whenever you decide to leave. Again, if you go for a car, a second-hand car in good condition will cost you within 20K. As for the school of your child, it all depends on which you school you want her to be enrolled into. The charges vary from nationality to nationality. But I guess you can manage this within QR 5K. Once you are set up and going, your monthly expenses household expenses should total around QR 2.5K. That would include cost of fuel for your car, internet services, water and power charges plus an occasional trip to KFC or McDonald.
