Reward Package Query - HELP ! :)

Hi

I'm a Brit in UK considering a job as Head of Recruitment with one of Qatar's main financial institutions.(Going through selection process) Am single, early 40's with about 15 yrs 'blue chip' HR expertise.

The package is 'negotiable', but whats initially on offer is roughly £60k salary, plus a £20k performance bonus. Benefits run to paid medical expenses, tuition, life insurance, social club membership and one time furniture allowance. Accommodation or flights aren't included.

Motivators for considering the job would be additional international experience gained and possibility to save money to buy buy-to-lets in UK. Am not extravagant, but enjoy a good lifestyle and social life.

I'm wondering if this is a good salary / package for the region, the ease of finding good accommodation to corporate standard and the singles scene for a straight guy :)

Any comments ?

Thanks !

Mike

60K plus housing is fair. Otherwise its tough. The nice accommodation of which there is not a lot in terms of apartments could cost you up to 16,000 QR. That's over 2 grand a month so your 60k then starts to look pretty weak for the job they want you for.

We manage on one salary instead of two here, no tax means you are about 40 per cent better off. People who live here often forget how cheap the cost of living is here (except rent). I have just returned from a month in England so appreciate the fact that a good meal out is about 10 pounds and petrol is 10p a litre! The only thing that is pricey is alcohol and, actually, it is about the same as the UK. We have a brand new car that cost 10,000 pounds here, in England it would have been 27,000 pounds. Qatar Airways seem to adapt the cost of London/Heathrow so it always works out at 500 pounds except at Eid.Hope this helps, also hope that I am not becoming one of those tedious, boring and mean expats who just goes on about money all the time. Doha is a good place to live, there are all the western facilities and a bit of culture too. People are generally very respectful and helpful (except when driving). Good luck. JJ

60K poundsterling per annum would be very good ... especially if it is tax free. But do not expect much for social scene though. Many bachelor / single complaining that there is no life for them in Doha. Then again life is what you make it ...

I do think you should ask the employer to pay housing ... it is nightmare, rent keep going up.

Some expat here in Doha sharing house / villa to cut their housing cost. But i know certain individual appreciate their privacy regarding house sharing, it is all up to you.

Flight to the UK around 2500 to 3000 QR depend on carrier and season.

On top of my head ... will you get any car / previllege to use a car from the company?
