Relocating to Qatar
Hi All,
I have been offered a job in hospitality management with a starting salary of QAR12500 a month, including live-in and transportation and I do not know if I should accept it, as in future I would like my family to relocate with me (wife and 2 kids, 3 years and 5 months old).
My wife will be keen on working on her trade (makeup artist, health and beauty sector) and I would like to know first of all which salary can she expects, and secondly if we could live with my live-out allowance of QAR5000 a month.
It does seems quite tight to me but would like to know from you people, thank you.
David
I think coming to Qatar is little risky specialy coming to private sector its either doctor, nurse or executive class. Compare to other place in gulf Qatar is little uncertain place. Usually employee not getting salary on time and on leaving employers are not willing to give the gratuity and other end of service benefits. In my view before taking any risk of coming to Qatar better explore some alternative. and cost of living very high. So be carefull before joining any private sector and once you join, you will not be having much options.
Thanks guys, that's what I thought. The live-in flat is a 1bed apartment and surely will be a bit tight for a family of four!!
Just in case you need estimated costs of living, I think these are reasonable estimates per month for a small family:
Utilities - QAR500-700 (depends on season & usage)
Groceries - QAR800-1500 (depends on whether you are vegetarian or not & the brands you buy)
Car - QAR1700 minimum
TV - around QAR300 a month (I think cheapest OSN package)
Daycare - well the costs could be lowered in some nurseries if your wife would not mind working in the daycare nursery. Your kids get minded and your wife gets a bit of income. Just an idea. You would have to contact the nurseries themselves for details if your wife is interested.
Hi, agree with Colt 45. Another thing is to find out about your live in accomodation, whether they provide a place which you can stay with your family here. It is unlikely that they will provide a place where you can stay with your wife and children (as singles are not allowed to stay in same accomodation as families here). Therefore, if you take this deal, you will have to rely on the QAR5000 live out and probably have to foot the bill for transportation too out of the QAR7500. Which makes it doable but tight on your salary alone. If you are here for long term, ie several years and your kids need schooling, the fees are steep.
If you don't have a option of negotiating and you're looking to relocate, then I would suggest you take the live-in and transportation offered by the company.
QAR 5000 will get you a 2 bedroom apartment, but it may not be very big.
I'm not sure on the salaries of your wife's trade, sorry!
Pretty low for someone coming from Europe. Negotiate again.
