Possible Interview

I've been asked by a company in Qatar what my current salary is ( net / gross ).

Is it wise for me to disclose this to them. I am based in the UK as a freelancer so my salary is pretty high about £35-40k (AFTER TAX).

Not sure what they consider as too high and whether this would be percieved as that. I understand cost of living is way cheaper over there compared to London so I would be willing to take the same amount or even a touch lower.

Anybody have any advice - should I pretend my salary is a bit higher / bit lower !!! What do you think.

 Please help me !!!

Thanks for the advice guys.

Is there any sort of standard process that large firms in Qatar go through.....

I was asked about my current salary, known aquaintances in Qatar, notice period, and why I want to work for them.... does this mean I'm in with a good chance of an interview or are they simply ruling out those that are more expensive - never quite sure with how things work in the middle east.

Most clinics and hospitals here have resident ophthalmologists.

You could try Hamad Medical Corporation when you arrive.

Alternatively, if you are now in the UAE check with Yateem Opticians (who are all over the Gulf) about opportunities at one of their locations here.

No idea about the salary.

cost of living of every city is changing every year, read the latest issue of business times, luanda is taking over london in terms of cost of living. where the hell is luanda? it is angola, africa continent.

GPB 35k can give you pretty good life in doha but not much saving. a nice villa, nice meal in marriot, nice car......without children education.

take your time, search around while u r here in doha.........

with accommodation and travel taken care of, then a monthly QR10,000 is a good deal.

I am optometrist/ optician whith 5 years experience,included 2 years in UAE .

I am considering working in Doha. I would like to know what are job opportunities in this field in Doha and what salary range can I expect? I am originally from an Arab country and naturally speak Arabic. Note that housing and annual air tickets are provided through my husband’s employer.

Don't assume that the cost of living here is "way cheaper" than London. It's not, and it's getting more expensive all the time.

It would help if you mention whether you're single or married.

You will find many recent posts/threads about accommodation and living expenses in Qatar.

I would avoid giving them any specific figures. Consider the whole package on offer; accommodation, transportation, medical and education allowances 1 and 4 being the most expensive. Then decide how much you want to have in-pocket net.

Generally speaking I think you should stick to your 35k as a minimum base which will work out to about QAR 20,000 monthly salary but like I said before consider the whole package.
