Spartan 2012...
I was in similar situation few weeks ago when I was offered a ridiculous low offer, which I felt was insulting to my professional qualifications, experience etc. As a British Citizen, with professional together with 6.5years of specialist UK experience - Guess what I was offered...10K Basic, 6K Accommodation, 1K Transport = Total 17K per month.
I asked them to reconsider the basic to 20K straight away and they refused - to which had even refused.
Let us know the outcome of your discussions..
you can get cheaper flat if you know where to look.

I am in qatar now looking for the post as an accountant, but still
I think coming to Qatar is little risky specialy coming to private sector its either doctor, nurse or executive class. Compare to other place in gulf Qatar is little uncertain place. Usually employee not getting salary on time and on leaving employers are not willing to give the gratuity and other end of service benefits. In my view before taking any risk of coming to Qatar better explore some alternative. and cost of living very high. So be carefull before joining any private sector and once you join, you will not be having much options.
I assume that, you are reviewing this offer because you get in UK less than what is offered in Qatar.
For me, UK education or UK experience is not a relevant matter here. There are beautiful man made landscape gardens in Dubai, like in palm jumeirah,etc.. What matters is what do you really know. If you are an expert in designing/sketches with genuine ideas, you can convince the employer very easily and get three times of this offer.
If not, you will have to market your CV highlighting on where you graduated from or what your nationality is.Yes, sometime it really works. But, for me not at all seems fair !
Sorry, and good luck
Glad to hear it Spartan. Otherwise you would have regretted it tremendously.
Good luck to you.
Yes, It is not a good offer, for your nationality, your experience and position.
Bachus, thank you for a message. I felt, that the offer I received was a bit insulting.
After all those comments, I am 100% sure that is not a good offer, therefore I am going to reject it.
The offer is nothing short of terrible. Don't take it.
At the least you should expect the following:
Housing: 3x what they are offering for a good (not great) place of Western standard. Yes, there are cheaper options, but none that I would recommend even to someone I didn't like.
Car: it's low
Salary: 10,000 a month is an insult. Generally expats should expect a base salary that is 1.5x whatever you make at home.
I good expat package should also include home leave allowance, school for children (if you have them), and private health care.
All,
Thank you very much! All that information are great! Really helpful.
1. Housing:
6000 QAR for 2 bed rooms + 2 bathrooms + kitchen + Split ACs, non furnished apartment in center of Doha.
You can share your apartment with any colleague.
2. Food:
2000 to 2500 / month (outdoor meals).
3. Car, 1600 QAR/ month - Nissan Altima 2012 installment.
4. Feul, 1 QAR/ liter, will need around 300/month (depends on ur movement).
5. Entertainment: 400 QAR/ month.
these are the basic infos u might need.
Good luck
Hi Spartan2012,
I agree with Wouter2011, a basic salary of 12,000 + housing of 6,000 + 1500 car allowance + 300 communication allowance.
Most important do not forget the terms and conditions of the contract like:
- Medical insurance coverage.
- Annual bonus, what is the minimum if any.
-Overtime policy if any.
-Millage claim usually 0.6 QAR/KM(different from the car allowance).
- Try to know whether they allow sponsorship transfer but do not directly as it, not a good question in the beginning.
-for the saving, i will give you complete expenses in a following message.
Good luck

Thank you All for your comments and advises.
Brilliant!
I am looking for a job as a Landscape Architect in Qatar or UAE, when you will hear about any opportunity can you drop me an email, please? [email protected]
Hi,
If it is a 6 days working week it is properly an contracting company. I would recommend you to try Architecture and Consulting companies.
Further make sure that they will give you release from there sponsorship after your contract is ending.
See your first two years as an time investment to get the needed middle east experience ( as special as landscape architect in a different climate).
20,000 Qr is a good starting salary and after two years you can ask 25 - 30 k per month
MIMH is right. Rental is very expensive, at least 5-6k for 2 bedroom, away from Westbay area. Further out will be cheaper. Westbay will be more expensive so it depends on where you will be working. If not nearby your accomodation, then you need to factor in the transportation costs as well.
Food is expensive - but if you avoid eating out often and just keep to once in a while, you can save money by cooking and get foodstuff from cheaper supermarkets.
And yes, no income tax as yet. They wanted to introduce it some time ago but guess that didn't get off the ground.
/Edit:Your recent post from your research appears to be closer to the mark. But like I said, it depends on many variables - eg. your home country's market rate, is this offer a better one? Your UK salary cf cost of living there, etc.? Suggest you factor in the accomodation which is a hefty chunk of one's salary in Qatar.
I would say 15 to 20 basic, plus the other things on top
Thank you for your message. Yes, I have done a research on earlier posts but, I cannot find anything relevant to me. I really want to know, how much a Landscape Architect with western education, with Master degree and 5 years experience should get as a minimum base salary. Also from my research I know that, to a base salary I have to add 6-7k for an accommodation.
Any ideas or thoughts please?
Hey Wouter211
Do you mean that QR17.500 is a base salary for someone with my experience and qualification? And i should add around 6-7k for accommodation?
Or do you mean 17.500 all included.
hhhmmm from my personal research, I think that QR17.000 to QR19.000 should be my base salary for a Landscape Architect and QR19.000 to QR22.000 for a Senior Landscape Architect position.
Plus the accommodation should be provide or if not, I should request additional 6-7k for my place to live.
Are those number are correct or is it too much?
oooo... by the way, the offer said i am going to work 6 days a week :/
Hi Spartan,
I'm a Landscape Architect of the Netherlands working in Qatar.
For a western Landscape architect with your experience the offer should not be lower QR 17.500 (that is what you will get at least in other companies).
How much you are spending in Qatar is up to yourselves.
I know western young adults that living on a budget of 6000 Qr per month (car and housing) but also people that are paying 16000 Qr.
If you are single with no kids then it is a good offer. If married and husband is earning, it is then also a good offer. go for it.
Rent is expensive here, say at least 6-7k for a nice apartment. Food is expensive here, alcohol is very expensive if you like that sort of thing.
However no income tax
Hi Spartan. Have you done a search on QL for earlier posts, perhaps you may find some idea. The amount you mentioned is kinda low but then again, not sure about your particular circumstances.
And as a lady, perhaps your particular job is not within the categories of recognized professions for women (ie needed by the country). Like when I first came on board a few years ago, I was an "accountant" or something lower, maybe accounts assistant or something (and I cannot count to save my life ...)
All the best to you in your research!
Thank you All for the comments.
Any idea what is the base salary for a Landscape Architect with 5 years experiance?
And how much i should request for an allowance?
Karolina
I am on QR12000 at the moment. But I don’t want to take an offer which doesn’t respect my experience and qualification. Any idea how much a Landscape Architect with Master degree with 5 years experience (from the UK) should earn in Qatar? What the base salary should be? And how much the allowance should be? Is QR4200 enough for 1 bedroom flat to rent + bills?
I will really appreciate any help, comments and thoughts
Karolina
Wow that is low. I guess you are happy to find an apartment in the industrial area and live amongst the labourers. Plus I guess you will not mind never being able to have a night out.
But hey, it might be fun!
not good
doesnt seem very good, but depends what u were earning in UK. Negotiate! may be they raise
