Hello,

It's a government job- offering 60,000 US Dollar = 218,472 Qatari Rial yearly + free 2 bedroom apartment + medical+ 45 days annual leave + yearly free ticket. No monthly transport allowance.

Yes, it's a Snr Database Administrator- Tech Lead position.

Is it a good offer? How much can I save?

Thanks and will appreciate any information.

NB: I really need some quick information-they are waiting on my decision (which is due tomorrow).

Not sure if I'm going to that Ramadan Tent 'do' or not tomorrow at the moment, but don't want to eat much just in case I DO !

leave it..why argue over this?Though India ia a very gr8 country and has millions of professionals worldwide, here in qatar one gets to c majority of indians as labourers , low class workers etc....but actually there is also a very gud high educated majority of indians here

One more thing! You don’t know the law not in Qatar not in any other country that you are taking and threatening people on the net! So! Don’t threaten people while you are keeping your tracks on the net and everyone can read it! And it is not erasable!

So! Watch out your words! Do not threaten people to be thrown out of their job or out of the country especially in Qatar! Because whoever is familiar with law they know that the punishment for threatening people no matters in which case can even proceed to deport.

Cheers

Firstly, hey mate...the offer is a decent one...the second one i guess...the benefits are similar to any comp on a major...yes there is an annual pay rise...in most of the sectors...so its basically a good option...u earn 90k in the US but u also pay bout 30% towards tax...here u dont have such pains...travel is also inexpensive...the vehicles are easily financiable and inexpensive...there are a lot many deals...that dont cost u much...

Chalipa...whats this guy bein australian gotto do promotion to a senior manager...dont know from where u r but if u dont work and justify ur position...u will get thrown out of ur job in any country in the world...Qatar no exception...so take it easy there man...dun matter if u are from Down Under as well...

Ohh does it mean- there is annual salary review in government and certainly there is a pay rise every year in future?

Thanks

Well! I think don’t do it either you might loose it! This is the known package here and no one can bargain for it. They are just giving you options and you must choose one. Usually people are choosing the second option that I told you.

Don’t worry, additionally if it is in the governmental sector they will add to your salary yearly. Even you have the opportunity to be a Manager after years as you are Australian.

According to agency- wife also gets free air ticket. Don't know the location yet- I will ask them all these tomorrow.

How about if I ask US$80K base salary + free housing? Is it too much to bargain for a Snr DBA position in Qatar?

Thanks again,

P

By chalipa• 26 Sep 2007 15:45
chalipa

Yes! That is good. I mean the second option. Just get sure about the furniture allowance. If they won't give it to you so you shall pay it from your pocket!

Note: Be aware sometimes the residences they are giving to the employees are not situated in a good location, so most of the employees prefer to choose their own area of living.

Well I would be very careful about walking. Other than the Corniche, I can't think of any place I would consider walking because of the traffic and the large number of reckless, speeding, red-light jumping drivers. It is a dangerous endeavor for sure. You will need at least one car, maybe two if your wife likes to get out and about. While gas is very inexpensive here, cars are not. Even to rent a VERY small American car here, you will be paying at least 2000 QR per month.

Other considerations: Is the apartment furnished or not? Do you know where in Doha the apartment is located? Do they only pay for your annual leave ticket or does your wife get a ticket as well?

By Provat• 26 Sep 2007 15:01
Provat

Yes, lots of tax here :(

Housing is for whole period of my stay- not temporary. Basically, they gave me 2 options- 60k+ free housing or US$85K total package (no accommodation). Not sure about the furniture allowance and also don’t know whether it’s furnished or not.

According to agency- house is within walking distance from work.

Thanks folks….

Yes! But imagine the salary is just starting from 70000 dollars!

Just a mid-career employee in Database Administration is getting 90000 US dollars!

come on ... in Australia nearly half of the salary goes to income taxes, while here is free tax money :D

Well it is an average salary here. But they are going to provide to a residence. You should just make sure if this residence is for your whole stay here or till you are finding a residence on your own salary.

If it is going to be given to you during the whole period of your stay in Qatar then it is okay.

But be aware sometime the residences they are giving to the employees are not situated in a good location, so most of the employees prefer to choose their area of living themselves! Just check it out with them in case you are not happy with their residence and you want to move out to another place are they ready to give you home & furniture allowance or no!

If yes it is better to receive a furniture allowance which is going to be paid just once not under the amount of 30000 QR as the furniture are little bit expensive here and the home allowance of minimum 8000 QR per month.

But I think just compare it with your salary in Australia! If it is almost the same I don’t think it is wise!

If not with all the above mentioned things here is a good place for saving.

Good Luck

That monthly exp don't include dining out, i almost forgot that, but for 2 of you, it shud be in the range of QAR 1,000 per month or a li'l more, depends on the restaurant you wanna vist weekly or bi-weekly watever...

I'd say USD 5,000 per month is comfortable to live with. Besides, housing is already taken care of by your company, so you won't have to worry on that front. The rest of your expenses I would say could well depend on your spending habits and the car you wanna buy etc. All in all, monthly exp in totallity shud be in the range of QAR 5,000, i.e. around USD 1,400 approx...

Its an average salary, not on the higher side.. you need to look at your expenses.. elsewhere on the forum topics, the cost of living is discussed, it will be worthwhile for you to visit them

to me it's ok considering you have a 2 bedroom apartment as well, as a large chunk of the salary goes as house rent straight.
