hi to everyone,

i was recently offered a job there in Qatar thru an agency here in our country. the salary offered to me is 4,000 rials with free accommodation and transportation. I am a junior civil engineer having just 1.5 years of experience in the construction industry in my country (as site engineer).
may i know if that would be too low or just enough for me to have some savings.. i don't have any idea on the cost of living in Qatar..
can you tell me how much would be the cost of some of the basic commodities there?

actually, i really wanted to work in UAE since my girlfriend
works there.. :)

any advice you can give?
thanks so much!

thanks for your posts!

nice story vishwanath.. it made me think twice about going abroad... hehe

i didn't take the offer..

now i have another offer this time for UAE as estimator/site engineer..

the company's name is Profiles RHF LLC.. the offer's higher than what i'll be getting in qatar..

i guess i'd gamble for it and take the offer..

soon i'm gonna be with my girlfriend again after 2 long years..hehe

thanks again for all of your advice!

As all have rightly said , accomodation would be shared acco in a rundown bldg with maybe another 8-10 people . I liked vishwanath's anecdote about the Lion and it is a fact actually for many people .

You must draw atleast 15-18,000 QAR per month to live comfortably.

If you r a bachelor then maybe 8-10 k you can manage.

Better head to UAE otherwise and ask for atleast 15-18,000 AED there also .Otherwise better to stay in Phillipines and be a LION-KING than

be a goat in Doha or UAE .

Don't take that offer my friend. Frankly Speaking. It's a trap... Better get a better deal on it and better yet, go for Dubai instead where their labor laws are more adhered to than here.

If you want a life at all, and need to save. That is not enough money. It is also expensive to fly out from here, and by paying you little they have you stuck..... Don't be desperate. At least if you go to Dubai, you will be with someone you know. If you work here, you will still not see her often on that salary offered.

QR 4000 is just not sufficient...... Ur looking to save some money at the end of the day right coming all over... In this case it is highly impossible... Just read below the joke which was just now posted on QL.... It is really hillarious..... I mean it.....

Just for fun dude... At the end of the day it is upto u to decide....

In a poor zoo of India , a lion was frustrated as he was offered not more than 1 kg of meat a day. The lion thought its prayers were answered, when one day a Dubai Zoo Manager visited the zoo and requested the zoo management to shift the lion to Dubai Zoo.

The lion was so happy and started thinking of a central A/c environment, a goat or two every day.

On its first day after arrival, the lion was offered a big bag, sealed very nicely for breakfast. The lion opened it quickly but was shocked to see that it contained few bananas. The lion thought that may be they cared too much for him as they were worried about his stomach as he had recently shifted from India ..

The next day the same thing happened. On the third day again the same food bag of bananas was delivered.

The lion was so furious; it stopped the delivery boy and blasted at him,'Don't you know I am the lion...king of the Jungle..., what's wrong with your management?, what nonsense is this?, why are you delivering bananas to me?'

The delivery boy politely said, 'Sir, I know you are the king of the jungle. ... but... you have been brought here on a monkey's visa !!! '

Moral of the Story....

BETTER TO BE A LION IN INDIA THAN A MONKEY ELSEWHERE

Just be careful about the quality of accomodation as some of the construction companies provide accomodation in old unmaintained buildings or with so old used furnature.

I have been into one of my friends who joined in a similar job as yours and with 8 years experience as a construction engineer. I couldn't stay more than 10 minutes in his house from the bad smell of the furnature.

The furnature was mostly brocken. The house was diffenately hasn't cleaned or maintained since many years although it is a contruction company.

My friend couldn't stay under these conditions and had to leave back.

Be careful about such issues as these companies always tries to get the maximum out of their employees and give them the worst service.

the free accomodation would be most likely sharing - u should check out with how many if you are okay with sharing in the first place.

you could expect to spend between 2500- 3000 QR every month on yourself. this amount should also include telephone expenses.
