Is my offer a good one?

I am offered a package with salary of $10k USD month tax free, housing/elec/water/kids school paid, along with various other perks and benefits. 2000 QRS for transportation also. Is this a good package for Doha? The base pay is where I am in the US, but with tax. The perks make it seem reasonable, but I don't really know cost of living for myself, wife, and 11 year old daughter. My wife writes, so work isn't an issue, but she does like to be free to shop and do her own thing. It appears she will be free to live comfortably there. Just looking for some insight and advice you can't find on the public tourism sites.

thanks

Texan, check with your tax consultant. Americans must meet certain qualifications to exempt the first $80,0000 of their federal tax bill. You will be making over that amount. You will also owe taxes on the fair market value of your housing, kids' schooling, transportation and plane tickets. Depending on your state, you may also owe state and local taxes. If you are making about the same salary the tax break may not be enough incentive. Rule of thumb is salary plus 25% plus all else.

Yep, agree with everyone. This is an upper-middle/senior management salary level. As long as the housing's paid for on top of the basic then you're laughing. Even if it wasn't, you'd still be able to afford it out of $10k.

This is a very good offer and it will allow you to save. With housing included and all your other benifits, you are basically pocketing the money. I would go for it.

It's a fantastic offer, just grab it. Not to worry, your wife will have all the freedom in Qatar incl driving. Only thing to remember is that you can't have alcohol on the road and you can't have food and drink in public during day light in the holy month of Ramadan.

Qatar is comparatively a safer country. Of course some crooks is always there, so one has to be little careful.
