moving to Qatar
hallo to all of you,
I m Italian and I live in NYC.
yesterday they offer me a restaurant manager position for a new restaurant cafe that will open at the end of september.(as internal company transfer) to Doha, to be honest I have no clue about Doha and even less about the salaries.
i have a company meeting monday morning to discuss it all,and I was wondering if any of you could help me out.
if you can please indicate what is the range that i should look at, the exchange rate in euro/dollar.
reading the blogs i have a rough idea about the costs.
also I m single guy and I have 2 dogs (golden retr)
i like to enjoy my life.
i have no idea of what is going on over there..
thanks for reading
As undone mentioned, it would be a good idea to visit Doha first and then decide. I went to NYC 2-3 times, comepare to NYC , Doha is not a fun place. Specially when you're single it is even harder. Not too many places to go. On the weekends people just go to Malls.:)
Congratualtions and goodluck!!
Could be a good idea to think twice or other wise to make an early trip and came and see them you can decide if this is the country that you would like to live in.
CONGRATS ON THE NEW JOB OPPORTUNITY.
DOHA WILL BE DIFFERENT FROM WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM.
IT IS ABOUT 15 YEARS BEHIND DUBAI IN TERMS OF SOCIAL ATTITUDES AND TECHNOLOGY.
IF YOU ARE A SINGLE PERSON COMING - YOU WILL NEED TO BE EARNING AT LEAST 25,OOO RIYAL PER MONTH TO LIVE SEMI COMFORTABLY (THIS COST WOULD COVER THE BASIC COST FOR ACCOMODATION, CAR RENTAL, LIVING EXPENSES).
RENTAL AND FOOD EXPENSES IS WHERE ITS GONNA HIT YOU BIG TIME. DO NOT ALWAYS RELY ON INTERNET SITE INFO. ALTHOUGH PRICES HAVE COME DOWN BY 20 - 30% IN ACCOMODATION BUT IT IS STILL EXTREMELY HIGH.
FOOD COSTS - $200 - $300 RIYAL AVERAGE GROCERIES A WEEK (PER PERSON)
1 BEDROOM APT COSTS - FOR SOMETHING DECENT $6000 - $7500 RIYAL PER MONTH
YOU CAN GET GET ACCOMODATION CHEAPER - IF YOU ARE SHARING WITH SOMEONE.
IT IS GOOD FOR THE EMPLOYER TO TAKE CARE OF IT AND THEN GET PHOTOS OF THE PLACE BEFORE YOU LEAVE. STANDARDS ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM WESTERN COUNTRIES.
OVERALL YOU CAN SAVE A LOT OF MONEY IF YOU HAVE ALL BASES COVERED BEFORE COMING UP. MAYBE ARRANGE FOR A TRIAL PERIOD BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR LONG TERM.
GOOD LUCK
