I have been told that the Qatari government is about to introduce a minimum wage of 1460 QR per month for house maids. The sponsor having to pay it directly into the employee's bank account. Anyone with more information?
Btw my domestic helper, the wife(joke, she's employed well), got approval. I only hope I get the same when I finally agree on what to do on vacation in the US.
I just asked a question why is it so hard for you pinos to get a visa for the USA when the USA owns the pilippines,, and who wil own it next ,, canrt see how thats a reacist mark,,, my god one would think you where more smarter with all that mixed blood in you...
here u go again bitter Racist doggy.but still i'm impress u really know the history of Philippines wondering y u'r so bitter till now. Do u mind to go to the toilet and try to brush your rotten teeth first coz the words that's coming from u so smells like shit. RACIST DOGGY!!!!!
..why is it so hard for Pinos to get USA visit visa when the USA owns the philippines,,, i wonder who will be in the next years ahead, was the spanish,, now the USA who next,,, you cant change history can you...anation of being ruled... hmmmmmmm
I do agree with you zafirah, been reading his comments and I've seen lots of grammatically wrong words and terrible spelling errors...that's why I doubt it if he's really from Australia as he's claiming...
Coming to think of the reason why this post was put up and actually seeng the answers, questions, statements, insults, etc leads me to believe that people don't answer with the intention of providing the information being asked: But to show off their pseudo-intelligence, to ridicule another's answer or just for a laugh. Anyway, all I have to say is, "Hmmmm" :)
As you can see its the Phils government that have made this new salary ruling, not Qatar.
So the opening OP is incorrect and everyone slamming posters for being racist against Filipina DMs are now realising their mistakes.
I think I already mentioned earlier in the post that this was about to happen.
The reason for this backlash? Because it means if they raise the salaries of Filipinas, then the Sri Lankan and Indian DMs will be might p'd off and demand the same....
Very smart taken you 3 post to get it out do you also have a stuuuuttttter.. .. should we call you Pino or american leine09..???? as the states owns the philippines....
Should be implemented, if you don't agree with it don't hire a live in caregiver. I personally think they deserve way more, but it's a start. And shame on anyone that doesn't give them at least 1 day off. They are not your property! They work for you, show them respect just like you would receive in your work place.

so dont comment if you are not effected,,, but please comment on your own jobs,,, how many maids again have commented???????
Hey Mr. Doggy. It seems that you had a bad experienced to a filipina maid. Here's the scenario you are offering the indecent proposal but she neglect you that's why your being RACIST now.
This won't be much of a concern for much longer, as rumour has it, there will be no more visas issued for Filipina domestic helpers in the new year....
These poor people are here in Qatar for the same reason than you, to get better wages than their original country. You only need to be sympathetic, that's it. How much money do you send out to your country?. If you think your country is better of this or that country why dont yo go back there.
here they get good living accomadation,, they dont get that back home,, here they get good food ,,dont get that back home,, Unless you like rice and fish all day, her salary id here on the 18th of every month,, she dont get that back home,, and she not have to pay for toiletries, and it not hard to do her duties, my god next my wife will want me to sack the maid and pay her to do it.. and thats what all women do back home ,, clean there house. so no,, not a cent more,,, QR800 per month and she gets it good... they will tell you that,, not the others that think they are doing good for them asking more,,
Should maids be paid more, yes, but at the end of the day, they request a salary and its given to them. Don't sign a contract if you don't like the deal. That goes to all Ex-pats here. Don't come to Qatar and think the world owes you something. You make choices in life and yes its hard to leave your loved ones behind to work(all ex-pats are in the same boat), but Qatar is not reponsible for that. Blame your country who doesn't look after its people, not Qatar.
Laws to ensure maids are paid should be implemented because they are open to abuse by employers but lets not pretend that maids don't also abuse their employers by stealing from them and running away even from employers who treat them well. Some employers are victims to maids as well and vice versa. Maids are human too and should be treated well but not all maid are good as well. Two sides to every story. Bottom line is treat people how you want to be treated
The payments issue is one issue of a much larger issue. The employers / sponsors who employ them should be held fully responsible for their welfare and for any abuse or mistreatment of this workers and the local authorities should take a pro active stand to check this cases of abuse and harassment instead of just going with the flow as ultimately it gives the country and its people a very bad publicity
Woman accused of torturing maid to death for being lazy
A woman from Abu Dhabi allegedly tortured her maid to death, whipping her with electrical cord, tying her up and pouring boiling water on her because she thought she was being lazy, a court has heard.
The Emirati woman, who has not been named, pleaded not guilty to assault leading to death after her maid was found dead in the family's bathroom, the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court heard last week.
The court heard the woman's two children saw her beating the Ethiopian maid daily after she moved in with them during Ramadan, which began in July 20 this year.
The woman admitted whipping the maid with wire 10 days before she died but said she was only trying to punish her for being lazy.
"I only beat her up, I just wanted her to do the housework properly – I didn't mean to hurt or kill her."
The woman was arrested after her son reported the maid's death to police.
A forensic report found she died from wounds sustained during an assault and a doctor told the court she had been tortured over time.
The woman's daughter told prosecutors she witnessed the beatings daily and cited one incident where her mother allegedly "poured boiling water on her (the maid's) body and threw pepper in her eyes".
The woman is also accused of trying to hide the evidence, asking her daughter to put on gloves to change the maid's bloody clothes after she died.
The case has been adjourned to December 31 and the woman remains in custody.

Agree with DD. most maids out here have it good - infact all I hear is about maids holding their employers to ransom and abusing their freedom.
DD's point on labourers doing physical work in the sun - there is an immediate requirement for them. They are put up with number of others in cramped rooms, have to manage with their basic salary - actually all of us are aware of their issues. The recent human rights report highlights them.
Maids - you have it all going for you and most ghastly abuses I hear are from reports in Saudi and Kuwait - most active QL readers would be extremely good employers. They 'hate' other QL members but love their maids : -) albeit not literally.
That is why i commented on a Pino maid, you think the maids here are hard done by.. my god get a life,, see what teh construction workers get,, how they live,, and you talk about a maid being treated as a slave... you maids get it too easy if you look at teh construction guys,, work out in the sun at 48c heat. so stop bashing the white guys,,, if it was not for people like us to hire these maids.. you pino guys would not have girlfriends here and your wifes back home, we treat our maids as family... what we going to do send 1 million maids back to the philippines?? stop bagging white guys becasue me comment on this and you live on teh fence, maybe your a maid and bored with nothing to do,, only facebook and Ql
other nationalities like Indonesian, Sri Langkan and Nepalis.
The Nepalis are paid crap irregardless, a cleaner gets paid QAR500 , teaboys get 700-800 (same as maids), and messengers gets paid QAR 1,000
I know some Nepali maids in the neighborhood where I live who gets only 700QAR with no day offs. The cleaners in the building where I work gets 500 (free food, accommodation and transportation) and our office teaboy gets 700QAR from his company (we're the client).
If you see outside the box, all nationalities working in the service industry (cashiers, waiters, baristas) here in Qatar earns below the standards. I believe they earn QAR 1,400 -QAR 1,600 a month.
I even know secretaries earning QAR1,800 (free accommodation/transportation) but their expat counterparts earn QAR 6,000 to QAR 8,000 Basic plus allowances (covers housing, transport, etc).
I am paying my nanny QR 1800/month plus i pay for her personal toiletries whenever we go to the supermarket. She has 4 days off per month as well. In return, I can say, she's good to our children and serves us well. :)
I'm an Au-pair/Nanny here in Doha for a British family, sometimes I would do house cleaning once per week. And have met a few Filipinos nanny, my sponsor provided me everything from accomodation to food to cash float allowances. I have 1 day-off per week and most importantly I am treated as part of the family. I would say that QR1, 400 something increase in a maids salary would be righteous as some of them are being paid less than a 1000 QR's, worked like a horse even getting less sleep. I really appreciate people who knows how to put themselves in other peoples shoes. Btw it's not easy being away from your family to work abroad, think of the homesickness we have to endure. Bless you all!
I am being modest in the use of words here referring to lucky and unlucky instead of highly qualified for a job. An office clerk with the same qualification and competency gets more compensation working for a Q company or government institution compare with a private establishment. It goes the same anywhere you work in the world, you work for a big time company, you get more compensation. You work for a small time company, you get less with the same qualification.
fenny--the Westerners I know pay an average of 2,000-2,500 to their housemaids, send them home every year, and give them at least one day off a week. Usually the maids are Filipina. Americans tend to pay more.
You mentioned that the salary of your housemaid is 1,800qr... you amazed me! I never heard from any filipina housemaids this compliment.. even western people cannot afford to give this amount. I am only wondering why your housemaid is indifferent with you despite of giving her the best compensation that a housemaid could ever have?
and you are correct that people do come here in Qatar to work - for a better pay from our own country.
that said, plan of having a minimum salary for the maid is a welcome gesture - so that they will no be abused by some.
also true that sometimes we give our best treatment to the maid and yet it is not reciprocated in return by them... maybe your maid is just having her period at that time... :-)
ot - blosted, you have not send yet your email add for your copy of 50 shades of grey? ;-)
Why do you need a maid in tbe first place ? Too lazy to do the work yourself? Also, do you feel 'happy' if you pay somebody X times what they could earn in their home country ? That is a pretty pathetic view.
The disparity in earnings in developing countries is very wide. Uneducated there earn extremely low salaries. My maid is now earning 10 times what she earned in Sri Lanka - thanks also sri lankan rupee rate but also my maid in Bombay would be most happy with the salary here in Qatar - it we be 3 times what she earns in Bombay. Unfortunately due to the Indian embassy restrictions on maids to qatar I was not left with an option to bring her here.
Although I pay 1,300 which i believe is very fair, I think anything above Qar 1,000 is acceptable provided they get the other facilities.
It is true that some employers do not not pay their maids their agreed salary, do not pay them on time, food, accommodation etc. but it will require more than a minimum wage and bank account to sort out the above concerns. The Sri embassy here stamped a started contract which details all of the above - their min wage when I employed my maid was 1,000 apparently - I'm paying more. More ever I retained my cook for 5 months to teach her cooking and had my cleaner for another month.
Perhaps there need to be audit checks by the government/embassies to check on maids and their living conditions etc. No doubt on account of circumstances back home they would make sacrifices and continue to work here but it is essential that they are treated humanely.
That said there are maids who abuse the freedom and rights given to them. I know some friends who are at the mercy of their maids :-)
Actually many maids are paid way less like 1,000QR or eve 800QR , but that is not fair to say the least.
It is either you act as human or clean yourself.
@zafirah no, it is not about him being dumped by a fillipina .
Because it is true.
Truth hurts, I do not agree about the nationality thing, but I do agree with the notion that people come here in Qatar to get jobs , and they should be grateful.
We pay our maid 1,800QR ,she lives with us in the house (Most people do not let their housemaids live with them under the same roof).
She always eats with us (contrast to many people), but I must say, people can get really ungrateful sometimes.
Recently whenever I tell our maid (gently) to ask us if we want tea when she is making for herself etc.. etc... she just gives me an hateful stare and goes to her room.
And I am all puzzled like "What the hell did just happen?"
Ho i degrade pinos in saying that i dont know, maybe you just want to fight again behind yoru screen you looser. as i said, im here teh real worl thay should be happy they have a job,, nothing bad in saying that due to the pino climent on job and the undertabel going on,,, grow up dickstick
whatever kind of job we have back home, you can not compare the salary we get here in doha and the salary in the philippines, that has something to do with economics. same as you, you will not be here in doha if you are earning more back home in your own country.
a maid in the philippines will be compensated properly if lucky enough to work for a well to do family.
unlucky to accept a salary you mentioned, just to survive.
1. It doesn't matter how much they are paid in their home countries. They are in Qatar. For you to take advantage of someone's poverty is shameful.
2. If you are too poor to pay a maid the 1,460 minimum, then you have no business having a maid. Clean your own how and watch your own kids.
3. If you can afford to pay your maid a decent salary (above the proposed minimum) but do not do so, then you are immoral, greedy, and probably racist. May you suffer for your crimes.
You are correct this thread is all about housemaids but thats Drovers Doggy style for you! He or she always make it a point to degrade Filipinos whenever he or she finds an opening.
Why is this thread only speaks of Filipinos when the OP was about housemaids and no specific nationality was mentioned? Are Filipinos the only nationalities that come over to Qatar as housemaids? Are they the only ones who will have this minimum wage for housemaid?
a maid in the philippines lucky to work for a well to do family back home will be compensated properly and maybe even more than what you think western employer will give here in doha. some are lucky some are not so they accept minimum salary back home if unlucky.
trouble with some is its a fact and you dont like the fact you are here because there is no work in the philippines, even some have a degree they stil work as a maid for QR8500 per month as they not have work back in teh philippines and if they di it would only be around Peso 2,000 a month,, so how doses this make me a racist you fool... tackts are facts.. i would never pay more then Qr850 a month,, i pay the visa, i pay the fees, i pay the airfaires, i feed her, i pay her on time every month, i give months bonas each xmass for her, i feed her well , i give her free unlimited intetrnet, i have all the pino chanels on the tv for her free. so how am i a racist dickstick todomundoben,,,,my maid see the other maids in esdan compound washing boss cars at 6pm at 45c in the summer, little food, we take food to them,,, no days off mine has every friday off.. so how am i a racist again,,,,, maybe because i dont treat my maid like the other arabs do is that why i am a racist,,,sorry sleep on it as i wont loose any sleep
I agree, most of the western sponsors are generous and more understanding with their household helpers. Consequently, they are staying more years with their sponsors.
what would be a reason a house helper be here in Qatar far away from home & family if she can get same amount as in the Philippines. a lot of sacrifice should be compensated. don't you ever compare the salaries back in home country.
All the maid i have hired are very happy with what i give them,,, but hand on hart they only say bad things fron other arab nationality here in doha,, work like slaves yes, miss treated yes,, not all have the benifits of working for good western people like us.. and no we are not lazy,, we have money to spend on what we want to inprove our quality of life,, remember if it was not for us so called lazy people how many millions of pinos would be out of work, how much money gets sent back to the philipines from our maids,, helooooo if she was not working here for me she would only be getting under peso 2,000 a month back home,, yes we know...
We pay 1500 pm,all food and accommodation, hala cards, every thurs night/fri off,and extra over Eid etc. and in return we have very happy maid who is trustworthy, very hard working .....and we are very happy with her too.. She is worth her weight in gold to us.
Don't compare their earnings in the Philippines. If they are earning the same amount of money in their country they wouldn't be here. Did you know what is the problem? they are not getting the right salary from their employers. They signed an amount of 1000qr but they only received less than the agreed salary, sometimes no salary for 2 months. No adequate food, no means of communication.. only 4 hours sleep.. more work...If you were in the same situation what would you do? Try to put your self into the shoes of the other person...
How much money is being sent back to the philippines??? they should be lucky they have a job here... back in the philippines they would have nothing... maybe 2,000 peso a month if lucky... if it is changed,, then hire Indonesian maid,, less problems and trusting.
When I bought over a maid for slightly less monthly sum I was informed by my colleagues that m paying her too much - they pay around USD 200 - 250. In the interest of all there should be a minimum wage however my maid sends home 95 % of her salary - I remit it myself to her mothers account. She eats th same food as us, has her independence and is happy - her brother out here keeps thanking my friend for the recommendation.
The point is the salary I'm paying is less than the OP cap and she is more than happy. It is in multiples of what she was earning back home
you all know how much they earn back in the philippines as a maid dont you??????
How much as a teacher........ how much as a office girl..... and they say anything less then QR 1,400 per month is slavery... wake up... so lets all you lovely pinos tell me how much they get back in the philippines ,,, as i think we do know,,, how much again???? let start this by you all telling us here...
Really too much, and in this case my advice to the concerned people to stop bringing house maids from Philippine as many people can not afford 400 USD.
There was a meeting held at Philippine embassy last week and they tackled about this matter. One of the requirements in submitting agreements in embassy is Labor contract signed by the sponsor indicating the salary of $400. We are still waiting for the confirmation of the additional requirement. Once the labor contract will be attached to the housemaid's agreement, the indicated salary will be implemented.

No more Filipino domestic helpers in Qatar..YAAY!
Hey Mr. Doggy. It seems that you had a bad experienced to a filipina maid. Here's the scenario you are offering the indecent proposal but she neglect you that's why your being RACIST now.

I pay my Nanny 2200 AED per month, plus food, 200 AED Wasl card (same as a Hala card) and she gets Friday's and Saturday's off.
Nor is it their fault they were born poor.
I don't want to worry about my maid spitting in my food and abusing my children when I am not at home, so I pay mine considerably more than 800.
here they get good living accomadation,, they dont get that back home,, here they get good food ,,dont get that back home,, Unless you like rice and fish all day, her salary id here on the 18th of every month,, she dont get that back home,, and she not have to pay for toiletries, and it not hard to do her duties, my god next my wife will want me to sack the maid and pay her to do it.. and thats what all women do back home ,, clean there house. so no,, not a cent more,,, QR800 per month and she gets it good... they will tell you that,, not the others that think they are doing good for them asking more,,

For a wealthy nation, people on the bottom rung are horribly mistreated.
The payments issue is one issue of a much larger issue. The going rate by locals is around QR650

Woman accused of torturing maid to death for being lazy

The case has been adjourned to December 31 and the woman remains in custody.

Poor Doggy!
Have a good working week ahead guys.
And the OP is asking about that salary cap/bracket for housemaids. He didn't mention what nationality...so chillax.
With regards to drovers dog, his saying his opinion about what he thinks, so even if we don't agree with it, then it becomes a discussion.
That's why we call this the "MAIN FORUM". Its a forum...ok? It's sharing of opinions and information.
It's not some place where we act like brutes and be nasty to someone who differs with one's opinions.
Please don't jump into the defensive mode by attacking or name calling. Not good. (geez...I sound like my MOM!)
THEN WHY U ARE HERE ? dONT TELL ME U WILL COME HERE IF UR SALARY WAS THE SAME UR EARNING IN UR COUNTRY

other nationalities like Indonesian, Sri Langkan and Nepalis.

Ask yourself you are a slave yourself.
dictionary.com
slave - a person entirely under the domination of some influence or person
I am paying my nanny QR 1800/month plus i pay for her personal toiletries whenever we go to the supermarket. She has 4 days off per month as well. In return, I can say, she's good to our children and serves us well. :)
Why do we have to pay slaves?
Americans tend to pay more.
and in the new rules it also includes that they are supposed to get a weekly day off instead of being locked indoors 24/7
I smelled something fishy...
and you are correct that people do come here in Qatar to work - for a better pay from our own country.
that said, plan of having a minimum salary for the maid is a welcome gesture - so that they will no be abused by some.
also true that sometimes we give our best treatment to the maid and yet it is not reciprocated in return by them... maybe your maid is just having her period at that time... :-)
ot - blosted, you have not send yet your email add for your copy of 50 shades of grey?
And I am all puzzled like "What the hell did just happen?"
don't feed him.
the way he speaks english - he sure does not came from where he claimed he is.
am sure this person has been dumped by a filipina - as he is coming too bitter towards filipinos.
Your words are degrading Doggy but you dont realize it because you are a true blue racist.
Maids are not born 'maids'.The are human beings too[whichever nationality!]
kindness is always rewarded!
Boa tarde... ;) tchau!! beijos! beijos!
Why is this thread only speaks of Filipinos when the OP was about housemaids and no specific nationality was mentioned? Are Filipinos the only nationalities that come over to Qatar as housemaids? Are they the only ones who will have this minimum wage for housemaid?
i would love to see that on paper wings,,,, hahahhahah
Hahaha....i'm just smiling about what nomad posted....Cha-Ching!! cool off :p
a maid in the philippines lucky to work for a well to do family back home will be compensated properly and maybe even more than what you think western employer will give here in doha. some are lucky some are not so they accept minimum salary back home if unlucky.
trouble with some is its a fact and you dont like the fact you are here because there is no work in the philippines, even some have a degree they stil work as a maid for QR8500 per month as they not have work back in teh philippines and if they di it would only be around Peso 2,000 a month,, so how doses this make me a racist you fool... tackts are facts.. i would never pay more then Qr850 a month,, i pay the visa, i pay the fees, i pay the airfaires, i feed her, i pay her on time every month, i give months bonas each xmass for her, i feed her well , i give her free unlimited intetrnet, i have all the pino chanels on the tv for her free. so how am i a racist dickstick todomundoben,,,,my maid see the other maids in esdan compound washing boss cars at 6pm at 45c in the summer, little food, we take food to them,,, no days off mine has every friday off.. so how am i a racist again,,,,, maybe because i dont treat my maid like the other arabs do is that why i am a racist,,,sorry sleep on it as i wont loose any sleep
Racist Dog... :p
,,,if i remember thast under Qr180 per month.... thast why they work here,,,,
I agree, most of the western sponsors are generous and more understanding with their household helpers.
That dog is a racist dude,,better ignore him.
We pay 1500 pm,all food and accommodation, hala cards, every thurs night/fri off,and extra over Eid etc. and in return we have very happy maid who is trustworthy, very hard working .....and we are very happy with her too.. She is worth her weight in gold to us.
Because they earn less at home it is OK to pay them a little bit more to do the work you are too lazy to do ?
Don't underestimate other human beings.
Be thankful of your fortune.
why?
How much money is being sent back to the philippines??? they should be lucky they have a job here... back in the philippines they would have nothing... maybe 2,000 peso a month if lucky... if it is changed,, then hire Indonesian maid,, less problems and trusting.
It's the Govt Responsibility for the Welfare for its Citizens, & there have been Cases of Salaries not being paid for 6 months or more...
I think Its a Small Step Forward & would certainly make a difference in time to come..
Most of them are treated as slaves. Their agony will continue if the government will not take legal actions in hiring these poor housemaids.
"GIVE WHAT IS DUE"
When I bought over a maid for slightly less monthly sum I was informed by my colleagues that m paying her too much - they pay around USD 200 - 250. In the interest of all there should be a minimum wage however my maid sends home 95 % of her salary - I remit it myself to her mothers account. She eats th same food as us, has her independence and is happy - her brother out here keeps thanking my friend for the recommendation.
The point is the salary I'm paying is less than the OP cap and she is more than happy. It is in multiples of what she was earning back home
you all know how much they earn back in the philippines as a maid dont you??????
How much as a teacher........ how much as a office girl..... and they say anything less then QR 1,400 per month is slavery... wake up... so lets all you lovely pinos tell me how much they get back in the philippines ,,, as i think we do know,,, how much again???? let start this by you all telling us here...
if you can't afford to pay the maid - then don't get one.
Its a Step Forward... If you can't Afford a House Maid, don't hire one...
Better late then never!
If true, it's a move in the right direction. Anyone who pays their maid less than that is nothing more than a slave owner.
QAR 1,460 ?? Do you really know what these maids actually earn ? They are treated as slaves.
