I have a piece of string here that should give you a good idea of how much you'll spend. ;0)

Jokes aside, I would say that being a typical UK couple that likes a meal out every now and then, want to run two cars, take two holidays outside per year, and enjoy go out to events, your bills could come to:

Food 4,000QR

Drinks & Entertainment 2,500QR

Rent 6-14,000 (small but decent unfurnished 2B/R flat to modest, small furnished villa on compound with pool and tennis courts)

Cars used to be a lot cheaper than UK, but the exchange rate has wiped a lot of that out, but insurance is cheaper, and petrol is about 1/10th the cost.

All-in-all, not being careless with money it's very easy to get through 15,000QR a month for everthing EXcluding accommodation, (based on my own observations of what's left in the pot at the end of each year for me and my wife). We could live like hermits and deprive ourselves to cut our expenses by 30%, but that would certainly not make much of a positive impression on our savings anyway.

The key thing I'd advise is, if you get an accommodation allowance (rather than accommodation itself provided) and can choose your own place, find one for a cheap rent, and put a bit of your own money into making it nice inside: rent is such a big single expense you can really make a huge difference by a wise choice.

But per month that would be over QR300,000, even for a MD position that is high. That's why I think it is more important to compare to what he makes in his home country than what others make here.

Yeah, I was curisous since we have work with the sea port and have had a number of issues recently.

If its per annum, it comes around 4.6K GBP per month which is vey low for a Director position...and that too including Housing..

I guess he is talkin about the new Port Authority..not sure though..

I'm pretty sure 55K GBP is annualized and not per month. But being a 'good' salary is a relative term, good compared to what? Obviously it is much higher than what a lot of people make to come here, but how does it compare to the earning potential back home?

My suggestion would be to look around the site and get an idea of the cost for the types of things you will want to do. Since we don't know if you are a fast food guy or a 5 star restaurant kind of guy, us throwing out numbers doesn't really help you make an informed decision.

Just curious, what company is it you are talking with?

Did you say 55K GBP per month? which sounds a bit unrealistic figure

I am sure..with this Salary you can have a better lifestyle than in UK. Rent for a good three bedroom villa might cost you around 15-20K Riyals approx: 3500 GBP..as you don’t have Kids... no Education expenses...so you can save 50% even if you live a luxury life..

All comments appreciated and noted. Thought GBP was commonplace term but there you go. I'll try to be more specific. I soppose the bottom line is can I work, have a reasonable lifestyle (not over the top) and save a good percentage. It's a big move as always with family ties in UK.

common guys, eggagent is earning GBP 55K in Qatar. That's awesome salary. Eggagent, you don't have to worry about any thing except HOUSE RENT as this is pretty heavy salary you're getting in QATAR.

.

Agree with ICGURU about Tax law in UK whether you have to pay or not. Also, you can have info from any of yours UK person living in Qatar or working in your same company

You need to make sure that "includes accommodations” means they will give you furnished housing in addition to your salary, not that they expect you to pay it out of pocket. If that is case, at least 1/3rd of your salary will go to housing. A good rule of thumb for westerners is 25% above your current salary, plus company paid housing, transportation, vacation, etc.

I would also suggest you speak with a tax attorney in your home country; while Qatar does not have any income or sales tax, you country may still require you to pay.

Hi, yes GBP 55K. The position is within the port in a supervisory/management role. I don't know much more at this stage other than it inc accomadation and the position was permanent. Here in UK i know salary bands but in Qatar I have no idea. For instance if my wife and I relocated what is typical expenditure per month. We have no children etc.

I may know more detail tomorrow when I discuss further.

Does that include, schools, health, car, furnished villa or flat and flights?

I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!

There are many discussions on the subject, but the link below is one of the best. I'm assuming you mean 55K GBP a year, correct? If so it would come out to roughly QR 25550 a month, just so you have something to reference. I also work in the logistics industry, so if you have any specific questions feel free to ask.
