Hi,

I have been made an offer of Basic 8,600 + Housing 4,500 + Transportation 1,800

I have 7 years experience and would be relocating from the UK. Is this an acceptable offer to live in Qatar and would I be able to save?

Thanks

Thanks for your answers, I have tried to negotiate and the company have come back with the below:

Basic/9,250 QAR+ Housing allowance/5,250 QAR +Transportation allowance/2,000 QAR

TOTAL: 16,500 QAR

Would this be sufficient to live comfortably?

I am seeing some 1 bed furnished apartments for about 6-7k advertised online. I don't live extravagantly but I want to be comfortable if I relocate.

For a westerner, I believe you may bot be comfortable in Qatar at the salary you are being offered. Let me give you a breakdown of your expenses you may be facing while in Qatar.

The Housing allowance you will be getting will get you a two-bedroom unfurnished apartment, Furnishing it on your own will cost you initially QR 5000 with second-hand furniture. You may be able to reduce the cost by half by renting an apartment on a sharing basis if you are able to find one. Usually, people staying on a single basis from 3rd world countries share a single apartment with four people staying together. But mostly they are people from their region.

Secondly, you may need to buy a car. A second-hand car would cost you around 20K. Alternately, you can use the bus or train service. Taxis are easily available.

Your food and other miscellaneous expenses such as cost of fuel, maintenance of your vehicle, internet charges will be around QR 2.5K per month. The rest should be in your pocket. But all this depends on your own lifestyle.
